The Israel rules

America's support of the Gaza attack proves once again that our mythical image of Israel has blinded us to its faults -- a myopia with devastating consequences for both countries.

The letters thread is now closed.

Jonathan in Tel Aviv, you haven't answered my earlier question so I suppose you don't think

that France is one of the "major" European countries supporting Israel because President Sarkozy has said that Israel's response to Hamas has been disproportionate. A man called Meir Shitreet, Israeli Internal Security Minister, has now informed a BBC 2 journalist that the aim of the invasion is "regime change". That sounds ominously familiar.

It's obviously a source of delight to you, Jonathan, that Egypt and Saudi Arabia are "supporting" Israel. I can't remember the results of the last elections in Egypt or Saudi Arabia but I'm sure you know.

WinSmith has come to play The Game!

I guess you got sick of dodging Mooser over on UT?

I noticed at no point in your article do you note that Israel pulled out of the Gaza Strip in 2005. Your attempt to conflate "occupation" with recent events is a slight of hand worthy of a George Bush "Saddam-9/11" maneuver.

What a tasty piece of bait the Zionist is using to lure his mark. How clever. Now watch as the Zionist waits patiently for the objective poster to bite, and then The Game is on!

I see that Hugo Chavez had demanded that all Venezuelan Jews renounce Israel

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1102ap_lt_venezuela_israel.html

I thought the antizionists believed or claimed to believe that there were two groups: 1) Jews (some of them are ok) and 2) Zionists (worst Nazi scum of the earth, should be put down like dogs)? Why is your hero no longer making that distinction and demanding the equivalent of a loyalty oath? I wonder what the 21st century version of the Yellow Star is? We'll get to find out soon.

How utterly predictable

Israel's targeting of civilians is an act of war and a war crime, so is the indiscriminate firing of Hamas rockets at Israeli towns.

In order to attempt to draw an equivalency between Israel/Hamas, you are forced to repeat a despicable lie. Israel does not target civilians, period. Israel targets Hamas terrorists. Hamas targets civilians deliberately, and uses its own as human shields.

ok ok, I'll eat your chum

NUM NUM NUM NUM NUM NUM NUM NUM!!!

Delicious.

@ Chris

Do you agree or disagree that the relevancy of citing "occupation" is in question when Israel is not actually occupying the place in question?

Or do you just want to "Zing!" away and contribute your usual tripe?

Wallaby

shouldn't you be writing letters to your AG about your contempt for the first Amendment?

Journalistic truth and honesty

Kudos to Gary Kamiya for an excellent and timely article. It is about time someone called something for what it is. I am not an anti-Semite--in fact I abhor discrimination of any kind--and I resent being called one if I criticize the politics and policies of the Israeli government. I am weary about having to tiptoe around topics involving Israel and the Jewish people and being held hostage to the whims of the Israeli government by images of the Holocaust and potential accusations of being anti-Semitic. People in the US and the western world need to advocate for the Palestinians as well as the Israelis. I regret most media do not have the courage of journalists like Gary Kamiya to write and speak the truth, which is Israel, in its zeal to survive and prosper, is oppressing and murdering non-Israelis within and without its borders.

I took the bait and left you with the hook. I don't play The Game.

Chris

I know it's hard for you to grasp the point that it's not about you and that contrary to Chris laws of Orbital Mechanics the sun and planets don't revolve about you. But let me try to express this again in small words.

It's not about you. It's about Salon.com

I won't say more because it will only confuse your hate filled brain. Now run along and beat up the smaller kids. thank you.

What does the Peanut Gallery say about Il Chavez' proclamation?

Do you agree? Disagree? Don't care? Can't answer a direct question? Too busy with something else?

to Amy T MD

You want to blame Hamas, have at it. But your assertion that anyone who doesn't support Isreal's actions actually help to kill Palestinian children who are blown up by Isreali bombs would be sickening if it wasn't so unbeleivably stupid. Only a committed war apologist would fall for that "logic", that peaceful people are actually responsible for war and death, rather than those who are responsible for war and death.

I'll tell you what, as long as my tax dollars don't go to that wretched welfare state any more, you can have your way with all the emotional blackmail and inane logic of blaming peaceful people you like. You are free to gorge yourself, just not on my dime.

What did I tell you, Mack... "How utterly predictable"

In order to attempt to draw an equivalency between Israel/Hamas, you are forced to repeat a despicable lie. Israel does not target civilians, period. Israel targets Hamas terrorists. Hamas targets civilians deliberately, and uses its own as human shields.

Wow, it's so amazing how Zioclowns all come up with the exact same talking points and the exact same arguments even though they are all independent and critical thinkers. You'd almost think that they have been conditioned to reflexively regurgitate PROPAGANDA!

Why do you hate America and the principles that it was founded on?

Why do you like slavery, racism and bigotry, Chris?

Why do you like kiddie porn and wife beating, Chris?
