The Israel rules

America's support of the Gaza attack proves once again that our mythical image of Israel has blinded us to its faults -- a myopia with devastating consequences for both countries.

The letters thread is now closed.

We should let all reporters into a warzone.

Let them duck and get shot at like everyone else. They're going to complain either way, anyhow. It wouldn't matter if there were 2 or 3 or 4 sources confirming what appears now to a be gun battle at the UN school where Hamas fighters were firing mortars at troops from within the school. It wouldn't matter who confirmed that. You'd not believe it or ignore it.

PS about 5 years ago a BBC stringer got in the middle of a firefight and was killed. His family sued the IDF and won. Because you know, wearing a "Press" badge is supposed to make you bulletproof in the midst of 40 people shooting at each other. It doesn't even matter who shot whom. It's the Jews' fault.

Chris Sinnard

I don't know if you have antipathy towards Jews or some more generalized inability to think straight, but your output is garbage.

seethe, Klytus?

This is fun. I love whenever Israel does something stupid, the legions of tough guy Keyboard Warriors in the Irsael-First Propaganda Troll Army crawl out from under the bridge to show everyone how much they hate America.

Calling Klytus an Israel-firster? I can't believe he hasn't written a poem mocking you in a more direct way you can understand. Over your head, thus far.

@rockybalboa

Actually, you're half right. If Tijuana lobbed bombs into the U.S., the Mexican government would destroy the bombers. The United States would not need to take any action themselves. The Palestinians have chosen to adopt Hamas as it's official leadership instead of disarming them. And no, that doesn't mean the the innocents being killed "deserve" to die. Nobody deserves to die for the crimes of others. But the attacks Israel is making on Hamas in Palestine are as well-justified as the attacks the U.S. made on Afghanistan in the wake of 9/11. Afghanistan had no direct involvement in the attacks, but they were harboring the people who did and refused to take action against them.

Lest we forget the difference in definitions between child and 'child' either

We here in the comfy west consider anyone, even some thug lugging a gun, a child if they're 17 or younger. In much of the world including the middle east, that age is somewhat lower. Hamas trains 'children' to be fighters at an early age. They're even proud of slapping up Youtubes that show 12, 13, 14 year olds practicing with assault rifles. If a 12 year old is pointing a gun at me I will blow his head off. You? Maybe not. We'll send flowers to your dog.

I don't understand the connection being made between being critical of this latest tactic by Israelis and being an anti-Semite. The morality of this bellicose action taken by the Israelis should be questioned as we should all value human life, whether it's a Jewish or Arab (Muslim) life; the acts of terrorism by Hamas extremists should also be condemned.

-- TRenee

You don't have to understand, that is the point. The Keyboard Warriors and Laptop Bombardiers of the Israel-First Propaganda Troll Army are not interested in morality or debating the actual articles, all they are interested in is getting you to play The Game, which you are dangerously close to joining. Don't do it! The Zionists want to conflate as much as possible, and they want to make the discussion as intellectually dishonest as possible. That includes the use of half-truths to get you to respond, and then, instead of arguing about the actual issues, they waste your time arguing about how to frame the issues. At the end they will parse your words to find a motive, which will inevitably lead them to calling you a "Jew Hater", (that is, if they are clever and don't try and premise their entire argument on you being antisemitic) while they ride triumphantly into the sunset, their mission complete. Don't fall for it.

You'll get half-truth, mealy-mouthed responses to "counter" your claims, in the hope that you'll engage the half truths and not the actual issues.

"America Hating Zionist Keyboard Warriors"

I'm so sorry. I briefly took you seriously. My mistake.

Isreal rules

Just what is a measured response to terror? What should a country do when an adjacent territory subjects it to repeated rocket attacks which are clearly intended to terroize its citizens? What would the US or any other country do if any adjacent country repeatedly attacked it? What would the US or any other country do when all attempts at diplomacy failed...when truces and cease fires were repeatedly broken? How do you stop someone from terrorizing you?

Israel is not always right, but it is not wrong in this instance. The question now is how does Israel stop its own invasion of Gaza? What is victory? ...a question the US has been asking itself for years in Iraq.

The US should not support Israel blindly. Our refusal to link our support to Israel's removing all of their settlements from the Palistanian territories is counter to what we say we stand for. Such a requirement is the only way to move either a durable truce of lasting peace forward. Palistine must have a homeland.

Klytus an Israel-fister?

That's news to me.

Calling Klytus an Israel-firster? I can't believe he hasn't written a poem mocking you in a more direct way you can understand. Over your head, thus far.

My comment was an observation for Klytus, not about Klytus. Klytus an Israel-Firster? Yeah, sure, that was what I called him...

Hey Klytus, do you honestly think that I called you an Israel-Firster or perceive you as one? I think we both know that the answer is "no".

ISRAEL KILLS CHILDREN IN U.N. SCHOOLS (so much for surgical strikes)

The BBC reported that Israel has hit a total of three U.N. schools and killed 40 in residential areas. It is time to disarm Israel regardless of the cost. They are too dangerous to have nuclear weapons. If Israel doesn't want to listen then embargo them. Sometimes a bully needs to be shaken up and Israel needs a good shaking. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, along with our two Uncle Tom's, Colin Powell and Condi Rice and other their lieutenants have botched it all up. I agree with the dire prediction of another Salon.com poster:

If Americans want more death and disaster, you're going the right way about it but it might not be confined to the Middle East.... (you half-wits). Salon.com RULES.
