The Republican shipwreck

The mighty right-wing Titanic is sinking, and McCain is desperately blaming Bush. But the problem isn't the captain -- it's the ship.

The letters thread is now closed.

Nice headline

McCain Support Continues Downward Spiral

Obama Leads by 19 Among Those Who Have Already Voted

...Obama holds a 53% to 34% lead among the sizable minority of voters (15%) who say they have already voted. Among those who plan to vote early but have not yet voted (16% of voters), 56% support Obama, while 37% support McCain...

Paleoconservatives. -Ron paul

(To their credit, "Paleoconservatives" like Pat Buchanan and right-libertarians like Ron Paul and Antiwar's Justin Raimondo broke with Bush on Iraq, but they are marginal figures on the right.)

The few, the brave, the Proud.

Dr. Paul's mistake was running on a republican ticket. But anyone who really knows the man knows, he is a TRUE republican.

A man for the republic.

That means us people.

Well, he has lit the fire for us, hopefully Obama won't disappoint. Even if we become a socialist state, it's still better then a fascist or communist country...right?

Captain my Captain

An argument can be made that the last two "traditional" Republicans both got their hats handed to them in primaries before re-inventing themselves as "new" Republicans.

The first of those was George H.W. Bush, who had the intelligence and intellectual honesty, back in 1980, to call Reagan's "trickle-down" theory exactly what it was: "voodoo economics." He was of course forced to eat those words when Reagan put him on the ticket after whacking him in the primary, then actually tried to govern under that policy when he succeeded Ronnie in '88. Unfortunately, by that time the voodoo pigeons had come home to roost and Clinton had no problem hoisting Bush the Elder by Reagan's petard.

The second example was McCain in 2000. After being shown by Bush the Younger that being a responsible adult was no way to success in the modern GOP, he slipped into a neo-con robe and runs now on the same "us against them" platform as W.

The modern Right is clearly the personification of the classic schoolyard bully. Defiantly arrogant, and happy to throw its weight around, but screaming foul when finally challenged by someone bigger, stronger and smarter.

Hate unmasked

Mr. Kamiya's article is razor edged succint in its cutting summary of the current GOP. But of all the terrible legacies they have left us to turn around, their legacy of hate and divisivness should be the one that tars their feathers for years to come.

Today on the Huffington Post there is an essay by Jeffrey Feldman, "McCain's panic in PA..." It is a must read and with it, a must see video of McCain backers in line for a rally a few days ago. We who use the internet have all seen videos like this, but I would like to implore Salon editors writers and readers to help in asking the mainstream media to air this tape.

The best way to get rid of the dark is to shine light on it. The people on these videos need to be shown for what they are on the nightly news, which is still where many get their only news. One video is worth a thousand words when it comes to exposingwhat the McCain campaign has sown with the help of Karl Rove and George Bush. And it is deeper and scarier than the occassional heckler at a rally. It is hate politics unmasked.

I don't know how they live with the shame of it.

Artical Answer to Republican Shipwreck

Mr Kamiya.

Your Artical Republican ship reck is outstanding.

As one American toyou and others, I predicted that our country owuld see bad times if Pres Bush got Elected on his first term.

When he ran and won the second one. I said then that our Copuntry would go down the drain,

I actually did for see these things.

But every one told me I was out of touch.

Well I say to them again and again who was right?.

But thank you for letting me add my thoughts.

I look forward to receiving your News letter.

Again a fantastis Artical.

Mr Tremplechin.

You can't really believe...

that attacking, demonizing and dividing isn't the bread and butter of *both* political parties.

You're partisan, which I can't really find fault with. To have any political beliefs at all is to be partisan. But if you *really* didn't notice any Democrats doing their share of attacking, demonizing and dividing this election season, then you're every bit the myopic true believer nut-job you insist dominates the other side.

Sinking The Ship For Personal Ends

I respect age and in my part of the world, it is sacrilegeous to talk ill of a senior citizen. But I must say McCain has allowed his personal ambition to overshadow the overall interest of GOP. He behaved as someone who would not live again after November 4. He has not behaved as the seasoned politician he is supposed to be - looking at both possibilities in the election and giving each possibility equal chances of success. Where would he go to after November 4 if he destroys the GOP on whose platform he contested the election? Senior citizens are not supposed to be parties to scorched-earth policies. McCain's behaviour is an indication of how American politics has degenerated into the gutter. What a shame!

100% dead on....

Yes I am a Dem, BUT no one with straight face can say both parties are equally partisan, that is BS. Take a look @ the last 20 years, the Republicans have come in to serious power via Limabugh, Newt, FOX, K Street, etc. The neo cons know that Americans would have never opted for war with Iraq if they knew the threat was not there, even if the Neo Cons explained their intentions for better middle east stability,so they lied to go to war.

If Americans knew how much they were each paying for WAR, Bailouts and tax breaks to the rich, they would most certainly be appaled.

Hurricane Katrina was a shame, with Bush's 3rd world response.

Other than race baiting, hating gays and tax cuts what do they have to offer?. Seriously?.

The bizzare part of this whole story is how much they had and how much they wasted, just think after 911 if the Republican party TRULLY had a real agenda for good, where the US might be right now and frankly how much power the Republicans would still have, they blew it!. They won the lottery and lost the winnings, unfourtunatley many peole are paying with their lives.

Obama is no savior but you know he will actually LEAD and suround himself with smart, experinced people, someting the current office holder can claim non of.......
