The Republican shipwreck

The mighty right-wing Titanic is sinking, and McCain is desperately blaming Bush. But the problem isn't the captain -- it's the ship.

The letters thread is now closed.

bungo pony -- just like the libs Rush speaks of --

start name-calling within 30 seconds because they do not have a leg to stand on. And Obama says nothing the best anybody ever said nothing. The fine art politicians develop of talking more and saying less. Anything to disguise what he would really do if given the power. Obama may be benign but would be surrounded by Chicago sleaze. HELP!

Reality Check

Since when do pre-election polls (and exit polls) have anything to do with the outcome of an election?

Obama's "lead" is bullshit in the multi-dimensional world of politics. How hard to you think it is to rig voter rolls, voting machines, and the Supreme Court? Did we learn nothing from 2000 and 2004?

But, keep on gloating before the fact, Salon. Hope you enjoy 4 to 8 to 12 to 16 more years of Tina Fey paradies and clever quips from Stewart and Colbert.

Republicans For Obama

Full-page color ad in USA Today (though not in W. Post or NYT) for "Republicans for Obama." Comments, anyone? This has got to be a first.

A leg to stand on?

"And Obama says nothing the best anybody ever said nothing." - Have you actually listened to anything Obama has said, or do you just listen to your pill-popping racist friend Rush? Have you listened to Caribou Barbie speak? - She can hardly formulate a thought; she just babbles gibberish half the time.

"Anything to disguise what he would really do if given the power. Obama may be benign but would be surrounded by Chicago sleaze." - What evidence do you have to back any of this up? Talk about not having a leg to stand on.

If McCain wins, what do you think you'll gain?

165 billion not 165 million

I believe the Reagan Social Security bailout was 165 billion dollars, not 165 million dollars. I realize that most people don't really appreciate the difference but please try to get it right.

Sarah Palin ~ "Mayor" of Alaska

Sarah Palin ~ The “Mayor” of Alaska…

Ok, let’s put Sarah Palin’s “governing” of Alaska / Wasilla into perspective …

Alaska’s state population is 670,000 ~ the city of Wasilla is 6,700

Her so called “popularity” as Governor comes from people who:

Live in a land where they have never even experienced a traffic jam.. ( Except for occasional herds of migrating Caribou )

Alaskans are awarded $2000 per year ( Oil revenue ) for just being residents of the state… Talk about welfare!!!

It’s legal in Alaska to own up to an ounce of Marijuana, for “personal use” which makes a certain portion of the Alaska population very happy…

As for Sarah Palins record – It seems she has accomplished very little while gov, other than a Natural Gas “Pipe Dream” that most likely will never be built!

I happen to live in Seattle, a town with a population of 570,000 – If the Mayor of Seattle were able to give each and every Seattleite $2000 per year ~ decriminalize Marijuana… he/she would be mayor for life!

“Lower 48” Cities with populations that exceed the entire state of Alaska… pop 670,000

New York 8,143,000

Los Angeles 3,844,000

Chicago 2,842,000

Houston 2,016,000

Philadelphia 1,463,000

Phoenix 1,461,000

San Antonio 1,256,000

San Diego 1,255,000

Dallas 1,213,000

San Jose 912,000

Detroit 866,000

Indianapolis 784,000

Jacksonville 782,000

San Francisco 739,000

Columbus 730,000

Austin 690,000

Memphis 672,000

Sarah Palins experience in the politics of backwater, small town Alaska hardly makes her qualified to become VP and possibly President should McCain become unable to act as Commander in Chief…

Small town Sarah Palin ~ Dangerous choice as VP for mainstream America!

Go back to Alaska and kill a Moose, one of your favorite pastimes ….

Drowing elephants aren't funny

This is the second time Salon has used an image of drowning elephants with an article. Really, I love Kamiya's piece, but do we really need to be subjected to the image of a poor, drowning animal???

Drowing elephants aren't funny???

Tell that to a moose.

And it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch

I'm speaking from the perspective of one who has lived on both sides. I worked for the campaign (Mr. Richey) which came closest to unseating Mo Udall, in Arizona. then I got REAL religion.

The Republican Shipwreck

Technology also put a crater in the hull of the Republican party. Senator Obama was able to utilize social networking and Internet based fundraising with tremendous success. The Internet also allowed for the rapid dissemination of Republican gaffes from Senator Allen's "macaca" to Rep. Michelle Bachmann's impersonation of Joe McCarthy. The ungroomed Republican message is ugly to wide sections of the American public. After watching Rep. Bachmann's rant on YouTube last week I joined several thousand irate citizens and sent an Internet contribution to her competitor El Tinklenberg. The Republicans have created a product no one wants to buy.

Beware the Person Who Says...

Government is the problem, BUT will do any cut-throat thing to be a part of it. It's time for the folks who believe that government can't be a force for good to step aside. Would you eat at a restaurant that didn't believe good service and good food is possible? The current administration became the self-fulfilling proof of its own philosophy, and it's time for that philosophy to be tossed.

If one cannot imagine a government that functions for the interests of its citizenry, one cannot even begin to create such a government. (hence, Katrina, Wall Street, National Debt, Iraq, Afghanistan, monumental debt, no-bid contracts...)

I want to remind all us Obamites that Obama says, to our faces, that this isn't going to be easy and it will require sacrifice on all our parts. He isn't promising us an easy ride in this mess. He's promising us to keep moving toward a goal we believe in: that government, flawed though it is, can eventually do us some good.

I hope that the difference between "us" and "them" is that we will hold our side's feet to the fire, and call shenanigans rather than make up bizarre rationalizations. Otherwise, we can count on more of the same.

Unfortunately, the Norquists among us will still continue to shout "Mine! Mine! All mine, and you can't have any!", and continue to fail to realize that their station in life is propped on the backs of the people who keep their toilets clean for minimum wage. If only those toilet-scrubbers worked harder, they, too, would be wealthy! har-de-har-har

he finally has got it...

I think McCain has finally got it right. Jumping of the Bush boad, which sunk a LONG time away is the smartest thing he could have done. The problem is that the liberal illuminati have already done way to good of a job linking him to Bush and pointing out that he voted with / for Bush 90% of the time. Sorry Jon, Joe is not going to help you this time. You have have abandoned ship a long time ago.
