The dominatrix

Sarah Palin is trying to seduce independent voters. But she comes across like a whip-wielding mistress who wants to discipline a naughty America.

The letters thread is now closed.

Dig all of the Sunday Schoolies who are "offended" by "the picture"

Didn't they teach you priggish twits that "if thine eyes do offend thee, pluck them out?"

It sounds like a whimpering schoolyard full of fatheaded brats with skins the thickness paper.

Are you really that sexist?

Would you EVER write that kind of lead in to a story about a male candidate? Did you learn nothing from the republicans treatment of Hillary?

I am absolutely disgusted that Salon, one of my mainstays and to whom I am a premium member, would use this kind of trashy sexist language. I hope to NEVER see this kind of language again in reference to Sarah Palin. She is distasteful in so many ways that you do not need to denigrate an entire 50% of the population while you try to take her down.

I am so very, very disappointed in you all!

Just what we need from the cultural elite

For god's sake, Gary, what is the point of this headline?

Leave it to Salon to confirm the stereotypes of disrespectful liberal elites. What would we do if Obama were portrayed this disrespectfully?

Oh wait, he already has been, and we've already been outraged.

Loosen up!

It amazes me; Dems/liberals/progressives are often more prudish than right-wing/Republicans.

"Oh, my! I'm aghast."

Please - laugh a bit. You need it after 8 years of Bush.

No one at the Republican Convention was shocked at anything Palin said.

They cheered. They laughed.

And - they may probably win.

Stupid

Stupid article. Stupid picture. Stupid. Stupid.

WTF? This place has sunk pretty low during this presidential cycle. For every nugget of decent analysis there is a load of tripe.

Projection

Please, while I'm sure there are some young frat boys who will vote with their groin this article is a waste of time, will help take focus off the real problems with McCain and Palin, and will provide fodder for the suddenly feminist Republicans.

But we don't expect good sound judgement from Kamiya, do we:

As someone who'd like to work for Salon some day ...

I guess I have to be careful here. But WTF were the editors thinking letting this thing get published, much less the Mad Magazine/frat-boy-with-PhotoShop illustration? I have no doubt the author had fun writing it, and I even enjoyed a paragraph or two. But the whole point of it (IMHO -- and I understand opinion pieces) was obfuscated by the juvenile tone.

Very bad taste, and whomever said it's exactly what the Repub's will point to as Palin-bashing is exactly right. I expect more from this site. There's enough crap like this on the minor-league sites.

tiberius

I love it.

All the neocons say that too. At least the male neocons.

The female neocons should be grateful that Salon managed to get you off the porn sites.

this article is disgusting.

This article has no place in publication. It uses a bunch of naughty sex metaphors to try to paint Palin as a lusty dominatrix... while pinning that image, for which Kamiya is wholly responsible, on allegedly sexually-repressed, perverted conservatives. This article is scant on evidence and substance and heavy on ad hominem attacks.

I dislike Palin as much as anyone, and there are plenty of reasons to dislike her. There are plenty of reasons to dislike conservatives, or in any case, to disagree with them. But the reason liberals are supposedly so much better than conservatives is because we are capable of arguing on the issues, not on sexist attacks like this one. There are plenty of issues on which one may rightfully criticize Palin. There is no need to stoop to this garbage.

To AKA Smith

Pointing out an infatuation is not sexism or sexist.

The rednecks that find Palin "Hawt" are not at all afraid to admit that they have lust for Palin (as sickening as it sounds, it is true).

Gary Kamiya is pointing out the obvious.

McCain could manage to win the election, because he has successfully tarted up his own ticket.

Now we know what it was in McCain's first impression of Palin that caused his to take her as his running mate; she's "Hawt", and he knew the rednecks with guns would also find her "Hawt".

AKA Smith, you continue to make the mistake that voters really care what gets written on the blogs. If McCain wins, it will be because the voters voted him into office, not because of anything that you, I, Kamiya, or anyone else writes about on blogs or internet news.

If voters want substance, they will vote for Obama. If they want "Hawtness"; they will vote for Palin.

Sad, but that is how the election is now framed.

I can't figure out whether Salon readers...

are humorless conservatives, or humorless PC liberals.

Besides the illustration, the article seemed to me to be about the issues. I can't understand the idea of complaining about an article that you refuse to read. There's something about a book and its cover that's going on here. If this article had a gender, you'd all be sexist for not giving it a chance based on its looks.

Monday, September 8, 2008 08:40 PM

No, This Isn't Sexist Or Anything

Wow. Fire this guy.

Monday, September 8, 2008 08:42 PM

Also

Does this moron have any evidence that Palin's appeal is rooted in her attractiveness? Is that why women like her, because she's cute?

toldalthea

But WTF were the editors thinking letting this thing get published, much less the Mad Magazine/frat-boy-with-PhotoShop illustration?

They were thinking that maybe it would persuade the Republicans to rethink their avoidance of actual issues.

Pubs: "Got any more pictures?"

Monday, September 8, 2008 08:44 PM

They're coming to take you away, ha ha, hee hee, ho ho...

Impaled wolves, sex with moose. Okay, Salon has finally lost it. Flown up its own capacious asshole.

Monday, September 8, 2008 08:44 PM

I'd rather have her as a dom

than Hillary.

Sarah Palin charged rape victims for rape kits

It would appear that Sarah Palin has a problem with Rape. In addition to not supporting the availability of Abortion for victims of Rape, Mayor Sarah Palin, Maverick, Fiscal Conservative, also had citizens of Wasilla pick up the bill for their own forensics tests.

Hat Tip Americablog.

The Frontiersman / May 23, 2000

Gov. Tony Knowles recently signed legislation protecting victims of sexual assault from being billed for tests to collect evidence of the crime, but one local police chief said the new law will further burden taxpayers. While the Alaska State Troopers and most municipal police agencies have covered the cost of exams, which cost between $300 to $1,200 apiece, the Wasilla police department does charge the victims of sexual

assault for the tests.

Wasilla Police Chief Charlie Fannon does not agree with the new legislation, saying the law will require the city and

communities to come up with more funds to cover the costs of the forensic exams.

Words don't adequately describe this offense.

This happened when Palin was Mayor of Wasilla. They were charging rape victims to get the kit to record the evidence of their own rape.

I have NEVER heard of anything like this, ever, anywhere else. Ever.
