The dominatrix

Sarah Palin is trying to seduce independent voters. But she comes across like a whip-wielding mistress who wants to discipline a naughty America.

The letters thread is now closed.

Who's quaking

Not to worry. Palin will implode by October. She's not ready for prime time.

Get a sense of humor, people.

Am I missing something? Isn't this piece satirical? Considering Kamiya wrote a column a few months ago about the Obama-as-terrorist New Yorker cover accusing the Left of being humorless and unappreciative of cryptic satire, I'm sure he's finding all these comments very, very satisfying.

That Moose Was Photoshopped!

Dear Salon:

Ooooh, I hope that your name reflects your industry: Hair, nails, French tips, acrid and poisonous scents that invite future pleasure. . .Thank you for the fantastic photo. (I had it on file, but somehow you, the "nice" part of the media, retrieved it. The Pentagon, perhaps?)

I did not actually read the article. 'Cause I have far too many responsibilities. Like, "actual" responsibilities. As you know, America, I am on a trailblazing Maverick 4-runner Bridge to. . .Change! Thanks, but thanks! Yeah, I'm congenial (see my references), but I'm Pitbull nice. 'Cause, pitbulls, unlike, say, wolves or naked mole rats, don't let go. They hold onto their prey (who has NO responsibilities)and just jaw at the jugular 'til the prey gets too "disorganized." Smile. And he, dead, even has LESS responsibilities! Well, I'm not a math whiz, but zero minus less equals something less than zero, ya?

The Dead Zone Media wants me to actually "play their game" and talk without a prompter. Ya know what I think about that? I'm gonna tell them (nicely) that, as Mayor of Wassila and Gov of AK, that we don't need you guys. I can see the Ruskies when that helicopter gets real high; exhaust 'em enough, and game's over. I mean, all of 'em. All ya need is a high scope, a good gun, and ya run 'em to death. But I won't tell the "Media" that, okay, good Nail Polish Place? I'll just say: "That's hypothetical and therefore I can't answer it."

God, I'm good. Good, I'm God. Funny, that one little "o."

After 5 colleges in 6 years, I've seen two black people, so I know who my opponent is. Actually, they may have been Grizzlies--I shot 'em just to make sure. That's the nice thing about snow. Ya can't run around getting welfare checks without being seen.

Dear Salon, I will need servicing before my Debut with the Media slut Gibson. And, please. Change the Moose character. I don't whip Bullwinkle. Shot that smarmy bastard two years ago.

xx,

S

Lot of Comments

I think it should be "Deus ex Moose" or "Deus ex Alces"

MORE NEW RECORD LOWS..

While the left claims the right is hypocritical, corrupt, and mired in monotony, the left continues to break new records of indecency, irrelevance, superficiality, juvenile conduct, exaggeration and brazen embellishment, and even fascism. The hypocrisy is more crystal clear than ever as they foament and grasp for any irrational straw they can muster.

As an independent and someone likely to vote for Obama, this behavior and set of attitudes is disgusting, vile, and violates every standard and principle Obama seems to hold.

To be fair and accurate, the criticism of Obama and community organizing at the RNC was not directed at the work of community or public service, but a direct retort to his criticism of Palin's experience as mayor and governor. It questioned and ridiculed the idea that community organizing is experience that qualifies someone to be President of the United States. A fair point.

Stop the spin.

Spin

Sonicmom:

The spin is going to happen, is happening, and always will. Thank you for a sane response. However:

The "handlers" of Palin have "offered" an interview with Gibson. But on Her Terms. It is stressed that they be "respectful and DEFERENT." What?

Future wannabe presidents or vice, do not get "deferent" handling just because they demand it. This woman is dangerous, and needs to be vetted. You can challenge me on this proposition, but anyone who wishes to seek a seat as the potential Commander-in-Chief should be tough enough to play with the Big Toys. She has many times bragged about her pushing down the "big boys." So, in her terms (not MINE), give us a dog fight. I'm a feminist right down to the core, and know what that means at my age. She wants to play tough? Screw "deference." Tell us, Sarah, about Georgia, about Global Warming, about Jesus in schools, and about the economy. And tell us what you know about scared, impoverished, pre-prison black kids in Chicago.

There will be spin. Of course this is mine. This is what forum, I suppose, are for. To blast out one's heart.

Attack or die!

McCain-Palin are gaining now for exactly the same reason McCain gained before the Dem convention: He is attacking and the Dems are sitting there like punching bags. If Obama and Biden go on the STRONG AND HONEST attack, they can expose the R tickets fraudulence and win. If they don't, they will lose like Dukakis and Kerry and for the same reason. End of story.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 06:31 PM

I've been a feminist for 35 years ...

and I thought the article was hilarious.

You know what's sexist? The trillions of letters to Salon back in the winter and spring talking of how "polarizing" and "divisive" Hillary was. As if successful politicians by nature aren't both in spades.

You know what's also sexist? How very rarely anyone ever called anyone on this garbage.

And that's one of the things that led to Hillary's defeat. Which will in turn lead to the Dems' defeat in November. And probably to Hillary's defeat in 2012 to The Babe.

As some posters have well pointed out, the left has nothing left but humor. Neither does our country if, no, make that when, McCain and Palin take this next election.

Just one small problem

"She could well turn out to be one of the great forces of the 21st century, a combination of Golda Meir, Indira Ghandi and Margaret Thatcher."

Yes, but some of us in the Evil Party are questioning her choice of John McCain as a running mate. I was pulling for either Ann Coulter or Larry Elder.

You've lost my vote

Unbelievable. First it was the treatment of Hillary by the media that made me sick. 'Ball busting power crazed icy unsympathetic Hillary'. Then it was Michelle: 'ungrateful, angry ... by the right wing AND left wing press ...

The UK's Guardian Weekly hit a new low when their take on her spectacular performance at the Democrat Convention was an article on 'Purple is back' because she wore a purple dress. But now with this on Sarah Palin ...

IT IS EXHAUSTING the way you people - and I mean you people as in you media people - cannot stop fetishizing women in terms of what they wear, what they must be like in bed, what their relationship with their significant men must be like.

It's just so revealing about how you see women generally, and when the journalist is a woman, how they must see themselves.

It just makes me sick. It is just so intimidating to any and all women out there including myself who would ever think about running for political office or any position of authority. To know that you will have to run the gamut of this kind of offensive speculation that does nothing but bring women down. It really pisses me off.
