@Rupert_c
"Lyndon LaRouche bought Salon.
That would explain everything."
If that were true, the conspiracy theory columns would have more stuff about British royalty. I think it was actually bought by Tom Cruise. How else would you explain the total lack of attention paid to the huge censorship story of the week, in which the Church of Scientology sent four thousand DMCA takedown notices - four thousand - to website operators?
@Mantonat
"Salon, you should be ashamed. Please return to the days when you were respectable and respected."
Remember when the left had writers like Jack London and John Steinbeck?
Cokie Roberts is found of calling the Democrat and Republican parties as the Mother and Father Parties. Women looking to be taken care of gravitating to the Democratic Party and males seeking less restriction and the rule of law gravitating to the Republican Party.
Take for example. Bill put his cigar in Monica Lewisky’s viginia and seem only to eager to prostate himself before the feminists.
The one constituency that he didn’t betray was the feminist supporters of the abortion industry. Likewise, Obama, went so far as to vote against a bill that would codify the rights of a born child when the initial intention was abortion. (Talk about late term abortion.)
In summary, it is the men in the Democratic Party are the ones who prostrate themselves before the femininazi dominatix of leather, whips, and abortion.
I for one think it is a little unseemly for males that consider themselves men to prostrate themselves to suck at the tit of a materialistic government. By the current polls, independent women are feeling the same way. It seems they want a real man as president.
Like Obama criticizism on experience, I am very surprised that you Democrats want to go there on this issue.
With laughs from a classical liberal.
Underestimate your enemy at your own peril. You might disagree with Palin, but she's not a "nitwit". She has a faith-based world view that might seem totally illogical to me (and presumably to you), but that is nevertheless relatively internally consistent, if you believe the Bible and trust your pastor.
And that whole pregnant daughter thing? It's actually pretty acceptable in fundamentalist culture, as long as the two kids get married. Procreation is god's goal, remember? So from her own perspective, she probably considers herself a good (but not perfect) mom.
When I said that she's "earned" the right to her own opinions, I meant that she's an adult who has clearly taken charge of her own life. She's not a sheep or a blind follower. Treating her as a sex object is just insulting, degrading, and not necessary here at Salon.
Anyway, the picture is now smaller and off the front page, so I can relax a little.
Why does everything Gary Kamiya writes suck? What does he know about dominatrixes? For real. If you're going to compare a vice presidential nominee with individuals in a fetish profession, establish some freakin authority.
Whenever I get to the end of one of Kamiya's articles, I'm asking myself: Who wrote this shit? Invariably, it's Kamiya.
I am sure that m;y grammar and mistypes will be roundly correct so I will apologize in advance. I registered and posted in a state of shock and mirth.
Anyway, I consider this piece illustrative of the depth and hysteria of the coverage by the left on the Republican VP nomination.
1. There are some seriously humorless people posting here.
2. You can love BDSM and be sex-positive, and still think that such images are sexist - to do the latter does not make you a prig or a prude.
3. Dominatrices don't actually have sex with their clients.
4. If you are a liberal/lefty kind of woman and you are planning on voting for Palin "just to show the guys" or because you don't like how the media is treating her, you are not using your brain (assuming that you have much of one to begin with).
5. Intelligent people should vote based on the issues and who is best for the job, and not based on emotional reactions to how the media is treating someone.
Really, what is wrong with you people? Sheesh.
Yes, there is and we love Sarah Palin because she fulfills the promise of quenching our bloodlust: as governor, Bush II sent 150 inmates to their maker, then as President started a war, sending thousands of our troops to their death and precipitating the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. These are tough calls, but somebody has to do it. Its what conservatives call realpolitik. That Sarah Palin believes in moose hunting and shooting wolves from airplanes is all we need to know. Now, what kind of dominatrix kills her plaything when she's done? That's the kind of leader we need. Maybe, like a praying mantis, she'll eat McCain after the election.
and no, my snarky comment was not intended to imply that liberal/lefty women in general don't have much of a brain to begin with, just poking at the idiots who will vote for Palin on such a stupid basis - remember now, boys and girls, if the shoe doesn't fit don't wear it
"· Who needs Karl Rove when we've got Gary Kamiya
This is the kind of reporting from the "Liberal" media that put the Hillary supporters off...and it's just the kind of thing to make them defend, if not support Palin. Why can't our liberal countryMEN get that sexism damages everyone? Deeper still that the Dems cannot claim the moral high road on human rights until they get that women are human. Nobody (left or right) would sexually stereotype Obama...it would be called racist to the max.
At the heart of this ridiculous article is the issue that may cost the dems the election unless someone like Obama or Biden steps up and calls it out. Women rail against misogyny and are told we have no sense of humor. We tried to call it out during the Primary and the media called it "whining." Obama wasn't "whining" over the New Yorker cover. Even McCain defended him. Hell, we don't need Karl Rove to orchestrate the democratic defeat, we've got "progressive" male democrats on that path.
I'm a Clinton supporter for Obama, lifetime Democrat, and I have to spend my time defending the human rights of a right-wing ideologue because (once again) the progressive males of my party can't keep it in their pants and keep focused on issues crucial for the survival of the country and the planet.
Argh, I have to get off the computer."
