The dominatrix

Sarah Palin is trying to seduce independent voters. But she comes across like a whip-wielding mistress who wants to discipline a naughty America.

The letters thread is now closed.

Love It!

Shakespeare said it best: "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

The reason people are shrieking so loudly over this is because it hits the nail, right on the head.

I can't stand this woman. Her whining, shrill voice reminds me of Roseanne Barr.

Is this what I want in the White House? Most definitely not. I shudder to think of her so close to the Oval Office. Not just because of the havoc she will wreak, but because she is so far removed from how great this country could be. Her choice as VP is an insult to the history of this country, and a horrific reminder of far we have fallen. The rest of the world laughs at us as we suffer through these political games.

But as long as we're doing stereotypes

Just want to add that Palin strikes me as less about domination fantasies than a schoolmarm fetish. I'm not quite seeing the "babe" thing. I realize she competed in beauty pageants in her youth, and I admire the fact that she stays fit in her mid-40s after bearing five children. But plenty of professional women look just like her, and there is something about the choice of eyewear, facial expressions, and use of cosmetics that screams out conservative.

@sockpuppet

You have a warped view of reality. You seem to think all liberals like to see naked gays in parades, or "support Piss Christ," images which clearly are disturbing to you. You presume much. You understand little.

If people are turned away from noble goals - environmentalism, human rights, etc., simply because a few letter writers take a position they find offensive - then they really have no business even having an opinion. And it's hardly a double standard - while I don't agree with the naysayers on this article, they have a fair concern that basic human rights are being denigrated... as they are concerned with people like Falwell, that basic human rights are being denigrated. In this case, these people are applying the SAME standard. They are objecting to what they think is objectifying a woman, even though that woman does not share their values.

Too bad YOU don't get it.

Dusty Springfield is Right!

I agree with Dusty Springfield's comment.

In the absence of "issues", perhaps this is EXACTLY what is needed. The campaign is reduced to personalities, celebrity capability, and great one liners! The very thing the McCain campaign was attacking prior to Palin.

The problem with this election is that people will be voting based on the psychological and not the factual. So, it does seem to me that, sexist or not, it is correct to address the psychological. It is all too screwed up so exposing it for what it is? perfectly acceptable and, perhaps, necessary. Her choice, to begin with, was sexist. They baited the public and the media to address sexist issues of motherhood, family, unwed pregnant daughters, pro choice, etc, by parading all of it in the public and then raging about the myriad of responses they should have expected they would receive.

Go for it!

Personality

Before Palin, Liberal media, and Liberal bloggers thought it was cute that Obama was running for President, and the race was more about personality and promises, rather than actual experience, and issues. And of course the libs loved every moment as depicted by the many comments in the news and on the internet, and the DNC.

Now all of a sudden with the Palin pick it's not suppose to be about personality anymore, but just experience and issues, of which I might add Obama has neither, and he's running for President.

Liberals will say anything to get their candidated elected and that's OK because this is the land of equal opppurtunity and freedom, and lies have become the norm. But, remember the Conservatives have the same right. Going to be a tough election, but remember Palin isn't running for President and Obama is, so think about that when you think about experience and issues, McCain has both.

Big mistake Obama you should have picked Hillary for your VP, instead you picked ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Biden.

Independent.

It's amazing

how utterly void of anything like evidence, back up, logic or facts this piece has. The only thing this piece has is rhetoric. It appears the author feels that he alone can speak for an entire group of Americans, independents, without giving the slightest bit of evidence that anything he says about them is correct. What's truly amazing is that Salon would pay someone to write something this amateurish. A fifth grader could write an article in which they smear an opponent using nothing but overheated rhetoric. It's really easy to demonize someone when the only proof you have that what you are saying is accurate is your own rhetoric. This is the sort of article worthy of a high school commentary piece and yet it finds its way into a for profit entity. I congratulate the powers that be at Salon for paying someone to do the work that a high schooler would just as willingly do for free.

Sarah Palin is Trailer Trash

We've been through 8 years of hell with George Bush and his gang of thugs. Our country is bankrupt. China owns our souls. During this whole time McSlime was tied to Bush's underwear, followed him everywhere and voted with him over 90% of the time. I don't give a shit about McCains prior life in the Hanoi Hilton. He wasn't the only one, and it doesn't mean he should automatically become president. There are many vets out there with a lot more honor than he has and deserve more than they are getting. They will get nothing from McCain. McCain is a mean spirited nasty little man with a hair trigger temper that just wants power and war. He cheated constantly on his first wife. His kids from that marriage hate him for leaving their mother after she was dis-fgured in a car accident. He's called his current wife a slut and the "C" word in public. He's a great example of family values. He could also die any day and who would be left to run the country? Trailer Trash Palin, who is also a racist. Her comment when Obama won the Primary. "So, Sambo beat the Bitch." You should be mad as hell over the choice he made, and the potential danger he has put us in. It's just a preview of his ability to make bad choices, like he will do for this country.. He is truly touched in the head. But instead you morons are fawning all over Palin like she's a golden goddess. You are either as touched as McSlime, uneducated, or have a very low IQ. Or, you are a racist that doesn't want to vote for a black man who has chosen a great guy for VP with a ton of experience to bring to the table. And who will bring real change. John McCain spends his days, lying about Obama, and probably is up nights thinking what he can lie about the next day. Exactly like George Bush. Everything out of McSlime's mouth is a lie. If you vote for him than you deserve what you get. Unfortunately there a lot of us, including our children that don't deserve it. We deserve educations for our kids, good jobs, an economy that grows and health care for all and a whole lot more. McCain won't be providing any of that. But there will be more wars. You can be sure of that. And yes, I am ashamed of this country. Before you tell me to leave it, just know that I would if I could. I've had the good fortune to travel all over the world and there's a lot better out there than this.
