There was so little content in this article so as to be irrelevant. Would you refer to Hillary as a dominatrix? No? Then you shouldn't do so with Palin. I already can't stand her, but the article and the picture and the tons of insulting, gendered language have me cringing on her behalf. What were you all thinking?
There was an advice piece in Slate that was spot-on re: how Biden should debate Palin. The thesis: treat her like a man, don't roll your eyes or condescend, and stay rational instead of emotional. That should apply to Democrats/people who want Obama to get elected in general (or at least, those who are visible/mainstream.) This is the opposite.
The author here was imposing all his sexual stuff onto the governor. That's not only insulting, it's unnecessary. Acting this way will just feed into the right-wing narrative about Bad Sexist Liberal Media Coverage. It will make her into the victim. It will make her more sympathetic. We don't need that.
she has the men in her corner but, the women, independents, are not buying. They find her scary and too Bush like.
They simply were not impressed and felt she told them nothing of what they wanted to hear on issues.
The biggest problem is the press. they are willing to overlook everything and promote her as this superstar though they know she is not playing well outside the base. She bombed with indies.
But, they insist she has everyone gaga for her when it is not true.
And that is because the press is enthralled and they are excited by the new and novelty.
Have the editors at Salon lost their minds. Apparently it's ok to be outrageously sexist and demeaning to a female politician when she's a Republican.
I detest Sarah Palin, but this photo is just another shockingly bad and lowbrow decision by Salon. And to think I used to think of this little online Journal as one of the best left leaning magazines out there.
I did not even realize this photo was on the HOMEPAGE until just now.
Well, that's that -- kiss Salon goodbye. One my site I no longer have to visit. The Paglia stuff was the only thing bringing me back, and that's been predictable all season.

Joan, you've got some major credibility repair work ahead of you.
Maybe we could focus on winning this time around. Salon can't seem to resist pushing the identity politics. Or maybe it's just that cheap thrills sells.
Maybe we should be discussing if an oilpipeline is the true expression of God's will. Just a thought.
I am not even an Obama supporter. I am a Cynthia McKinney supporter, but for the first time I am actually wondering if Salon really wants to see Obama win.
Nothing is worth this destructive crap.
Dear Gary,
I really appreciated your take and tone with this piece. I think we're at a point where we have to be more open in opposition to Palin and McCain's actions, beliefs and promises. Taking it full out to the psycho-sexual sphere is so obviously a part of the whole attraction. Unfortunately, I'm not so hopeful it won't work. I also can't believe the lack of commentary on little Cindylou's speech introducing John McCain. Her's was by far the most generous and loving speech of the whole convention. However, she comes across a little (ok, a lot) as Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest. They (McLame/Failin') are emotionally unrelated in such disturbed ways that do so much harm. I think more articles attacking their emotional character and exposing them as insane need to be written. I'm sure Salon will give us that. Thank you
I disagree with Sarah Palin on just about everything, but she's earned the right to her own opinions. She smart, she's politically savvy, she successfully juggles her career and her kids, and apparently she can deliver one heck of a speech.
And Salon's response? Dolling her up to look like a dominatrix, because she's really still just a prop in male sexual fantasy. Where's the equivalent cartoon of Hilary Clinton? Obama the Muslim? McCain the craven and cowering POW? Biden the crazed soldier mowing down Iraqi civilians?
You don't have to like Palin, but you do have to respect her. And this picture (and presumably the accompanying article) does not.
I'm not sure how this trash forwards anything.
"(We will leave it to shrinks to determine whether the GOP hardcore has the hots for Palin because she's reaming the Democrats, or because authority-worshippers tend to have secret fantasies of being reamed themselves.)"
Who cares?!?
There have been plenty of issue articles on this site already, so I suppose this will appeal to a few people who aren't here for that.
But really, can't Salon rise above the fray and leave this garbage to Fox News?
The "splash" Sarah Palin has caused is because she is attractive. The GOP base is enthralled because of her extreme right wing views, but would a male candidate with such extreme views have been courted the same way by the press? I doubt it. And of course, any criticism is, almost by default, sexist.
Decide what is morally correct for others, but don't look within your own evidently fractured family (a son who vandalizes buses, a knocked up daughter). Claim you are a Christian, yet mock those who serve the poor. Claim to be reformer, yet put out hit lists on your own political enemies. Enunciate policies of lower taxes and no handouts, unless the largesse is for your own constituents. Yet, nobody in the MSM objects.
I do not find the photo or the article offensive. What I do find offensive is the fact that so many Americans appear to be brain dead.
Articles like this will drive wavering PUMAs right into John McCain's waiting, sexist arms. It is just the excuse that some of them are waiting for.

although a little too flamboyantly presented. Palin offers the reactionaries the same sexual titillation that Coulter gives to them.
