The dominatrix

Sarah Palin is trying to seduce independent voters. But she comes across like a whip-wielding mistress who wants to discipline a naughty America.

The letters thread is now closed.

It's official: right wing women are no longer required to stay home with their kids (and it also doesn't really matter under what circumstances you get knocked up as long as you do what you are told afterwards)

Say what you will, this IS a real change. After two months (hopefully no more) of the right wing's ecstatic embrace of Ms Palin (happy now?) it will be amusing to watch them try and stuff this genie back into the bottle, if they even bother to try.

MCE007

The left has ceded the moral high ground they so claim they seem to have a claim on when it resorts to shameless and deeply offensive misogyny like this...

Coming from mass murdering thugs like yourselves, that's downright comical, neocons.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 01:26 AM

Actually Palin IS a maverick Republican: whatever sexual shenanigans she was engaged in/inclined towards (depending on who you belive)

they apparently involved members of the opposite sex. For a Republican office holder this does indeed make her a maverick.

MCE007

I am not even an Obama supporter.

You're not a Cynthia McKinney supporter either, neocon. But you are a thug.

Gratefool Live

As the article elaborates what I thought the moment I laid eyes on Gov. Palin -- she's hot and can get votes thereby

From you and all the other pubs who are serious about their strippers, like McCain.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 01:37 AM

dick dworkin

For a Republican office holder this does indeed make her a maverick.

Just what those pubs need. Another loose cannon.

McCain may have been lucid enough to have a grasp of the issues once. Palin hasn't gotten that far yet.

KateTex

Where's the photoshop of Obama as lawn jockey?

MCE007 is still learning photoshop. You'll have to be patient.

Is Christmas delivery ok?

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 01:39 AM

not really my thing but if I had to choose I'd definitely rather get reamed by her than by McCain

unfortunately if the election goes the wrong way the whole country will be taking it from both of them.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 01:42 AM

the question is does she need a grasp of the issues

I HOPE it is still a requirement, if it is we should be ok.

We May Lose The Election But Let's Not Lose Our Sense of Humor

Wow, I can't believe the hysterical reaction to this very funny (and astute) article.

I would expect this reaction from the hypocritical Righties ( you know, the ones who have secret accounts on S&M porn web sites), but not from the Lefties. They are so terrified of Sarah Palin and the Republican's phony charges of sexism that they have lost all reason, along with their sense of humor.

This is America, and this is a political opinion website! It is not a church bulletin. It is not the New York Times. If this article is not appropriate here, we might as well give up now and save the censors the trouble. The MSM has learned to avoid controversy through self-censorship -- let's hope Salon doesn't give in to all of these comments calling for removal of this article. If they do, well, the internet is a big place...

did hell freeze over...?

Joan Walsh approved this ad?

Wow. I can't imagine her ever giving a thumbs-up to such a photoshop of Hillary (or the article itself), on Salon or elsewhere.

Anyway, I'm still waiting for some Salon feature articles about the Obama-Biden campaign...ya know, in interest of being "fair and balanced" given the exhaustive coverage of Mac & Moose...and hopefully without barrels full of "concern..."

Sexist crap

I am so offended by your sexist article I am seriously considering canceling my subscription. You only help Palin with this trash. This is the worst of the sexist trash I have ever seen. I am deleting this entire issue.

Palin - Anagram for 'Plain'

I’m not really offended by the photo or the article but I find them both a bit hokey and off the mark. By comparing Palin to a dominatrix you are giving her way more power and panache’ than she deserves (she’s an insult to any real dominatrix). This is not a good strategy. Yesterday you had an excellent article on aerial hunting of wolves in Alaska that showed Palin for what she really is: a mindless evangelical, a vacuous shill for big business, an undemocratic authoritarian and a completely uncritical thinker with a vicious anti-science bent.

Let’s stick with those talking points and lay off the sex images—because seriously, she’s not that hot!

I thought this was Salon, not Dkos or DU

Is this "how low can you go" week here at Slime-on?

...no use crying...

Using Palin's womanhood is no different than using Obama's blackness. If you don't like it, look in your own back yard.

Obama is an empty suit who is a fantastic public speaker. I don't think he would have ascended so quickly to heaven if he were white and that inexperienced.

I don't intend that to be racist. We have far better qualified black men in politics than he. It is time for a black man and/or a woman in the White House. It is the face of America coming full circle and living up to our potential as a nation that accepts all.

Too bad the first go around has to be a circus, although Palin isn't really the first, she's the first with a chance to get in. Let's just pray that American wins something other than the sensationalism of Palin's running or the white guilt of slavery's past.

I sincerely hope that whoever wins does try to change the course of events in this country. But your remarks are useless in helping to move us forward.

Gary, I know there are too many commenys to read here...

...but I thought the article was dead on.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 03:45 AM

Gusher!

Wow, I think Gary hit a nerve.

Drill Gary drill!

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 03:50 AM

well, ya know...

Palin is probably laughing hysterically at this spread since all it's doing is helping her to garner more votes for her party. It's totally counterproductive. I mean, how the hell could anyone take this stuff seriously, especially someone who has a thick hide like Palin? She's used to it. It's blatantly sexist, juvenile & as much as I detest Palin, articles such as this will only help her win this election.

Not one of your more brilliant moves, Salon.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 03:52 AM

I don't like Palin, but this is an insulting image

I'm sorry, but I really really don't like Palin. I think she's a stooge. I'm voting Obama. But I'm not going to read an article headed by a ridiculous photoshopped image like that. You're simply promoting an old stereotype of woman that we don't need promoting anymore. To say she acts like a scolding schoolteacher is good enough. But to push that further into perverse territory, and put her into a titillating pose, no. I don't go for that. It's just as bad as the mean remarks about Hillary in her pantsuit. No, no thank you.

Take another stance.
