What did Salon do before it had Sarah Palin to obsess about???
McCain/Bush!
to object to the picture and headline.
Please, this is just insulting.
Agree. This one is much better:

What happened to the Anne Kilkenny letter? I thought that would make more of a splash.
Think about S/M much?
It seems like Gary's the one who wants the mouth-ball and ass-spankin.
This article is sexist and the photo is sexist.
Apparently an assertive woman who is post menopausal must be characterized as castrating, and an assertive woman who is attractive must be sexualized and characterized as a dominatrix.
Kamiya devotes little of his article to Palin's actual, dubious positions. He is obviously much more interested in sexual positions.
We can all now feel utterly reassured that Kamiya has an imagination beyond missionary. What we can't feel assured about is his capacity to think with his big head.
Squeeze your legs together Kamiya. You just became a cliche.
Please take this article down--the image and headline alone are offensive enough--I can't bring myself to read the article.
What are you editors thinking! This is just sexist, putting women who nows how many steps back. Do not sexualize women in order to criticize them.
Note: I am a solid Obama/Biden supporter.
Hey Mr. Kamiya, Sarah's wearing a strap-on that has your butt's name on it --- bend over and take it like a man!
We are EVERYWHERE, not just in NYC or SF
We need a chuckle out of this whole godawful mess.
I'm vanilla and a feminist, and I think it's funny. (Perhaps because I find the whole S/M thing hilarious to start with...)
Gary had one good (non-sexualized) point - if the Republicans want to get government out of people's lives, and get churches and private charities & people involved, why are they sneering at community organizers.
I got ripped cause I wanted the dead wolf picture taken down. I love this one! DON'T TAKE IT DOWN!!!
Palin.
It is exactly what she needs to claim the liberal blogosphere is sexist.
What on earth is Joan thinking by allowing this to be published?
Shame on you, Joan Walsh!
Salon hits a new low. Why not just publish the photoshopped pic of Palin in a flag bikini holding a gun? Or the one of her in the leather miniskirt, the one photoshopped from a Playboy cover/
Every time the left takes the low road against Palin, it makes people wonder if they have any actual arguments. Are smear and innuendo all you've got?
And once again, you are missing the chance to go after McCain. You are making the same mistake the left did in 1968 with Agnew, and in 1988 with Quayle. In the voting booth, nobody votes for VP. Every time you indulge your Palin hysteria, you give McCain a pass. When you make the race Obama versus Palin, you diminish Obama.
Any by the way, this is San Francisco. What have you got against dominatrices?
Dear Joan Walsh,
Of course I won't read this piece until you have some photo-shop fun with Joe Biden in a leather cod piece asking Alberto Gonzalez to drink his sweat.
This is the kind of crap that makes the American people hate the liberal media. Unless you've put someone else's cleavage on Hillary in the past. Have you? I'd love to know.
I'm not a Republican, though I admit I do like what I've seen of Sarah Palin so far. But I've found myself coming to her defense with a passion ever since she was announced as John McCain's running mate, and it looks like that will continue.
Peggy Noonan was right: You're going to have to kill Palin, and kill her quick. If you don't, you're screwed. She is the Woman America Has Been Waiting For To Deliver Us From Barack Obama.
Congratulations on helping to create our next Iron Lady.
I'm sorry--this is too stupid to read. I'm not even bothering. I don't like Palin, and I shy away from Salon-standard dogmatic feminism, but "dominatrix"? I can't tell if this is genuine sexism, or truly pathetic trolling.
Strap on sisters bringing "dicipline" to a wayward culture.
That thing about McCain bouncing up in the polls... well, it would go away if we could get back to discussing the real ISSUES that our nation is facing and stop talking about that hypocritical book-banning snake-handling fundamentalist nut job from Alaska.
What a perfect waste of a column...with everything she's done wrong you resort to some sex image???
It is definitely sexist . . . and I am most def a feminist. . . . AND I loved it. I am so freaked out by Sarah Palin and the way she ridicules Obama. Today she gave a speech excoriating Obama for the money he's helped get for the State of Illinois, the state he represents in the U.S., Senate. How does the Republican Party keep succeeding in getting the punch lines?!! Obama brought $25 worth of earmarks for every citizen of Illinois last year. Alaska gets more federal pork than any other state . . . $300/per citizen compared to $25 in Illinois. But people seem to hear Palin speaking truth. How do they keep getting away with it?
And, geez, why do some humans want to build their lives and the country on that kind of dishonesty negativity?!! And they keep getting away with it.
Yes, it's sexist to call her a dominatrix . . . but she really does come across as one. The chick is clearly iron-willed and rigidly dogmatic.
I hope Kamiya is right, that "independent" voters will see through her act . . . . but, criminy, this country gave George W. a second term after he was the worst president ever. The McCain campaign seems to understand exactly how Bush got relected: they run on viciously and disinformation, ignoring the issues.
I expect McCain to win, get one term and then Hilary will get her day in the sun. I am definitely an Obama supporter -- I never supported Hilary. . . but she kept saying Obama couldn't defeat McCain and I am afraid she might have been right.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
