In honor of Charlton Heston, here are 10 lessons we should engrave on our foreign policy tablets as we prepare to leave Iraq.
  • Gary Pretends he’s Moses

Commandment 1) First gary claims that it is immoral to attack a state that has not attacked you, followed by a rejection of any deity.

Why do you discount the repeated attacks on our aircraft patrolling the no-fly zone?

On what do you base your “immoral” claim?

    I’m flushing this commandment.

Comm. 2) I’ll agree with this one, if you add, “Do not underestimate the threat” as well. Otherwise, flush number two.

Comm. 3) Establishing a democracy is a great way to achieve your aim, as opposed to allowing a tiny minority to seize control of a nation and cause havoc, like Saddam did.

Comm. 5) I think you should change this commandment from “Reject the idea of a clash of civilizations." to “Hope for the best”.

Comm. 6) Sounds like a rejection of First Amendment, particularly as it relates to Bill Kristol. Better not let glenn greenwald get wind of this one, he’s likely to accuse you of dismantling the constitution.

Comm. 9) If you expect the media to have brains, you’re in trouble.

Comm. 10) If you expect other nations to co-operate with our attempts to rein in despots, you’re in bigger trouble than you are with #9. Review the abuse of the oil-for-food program for examples of this lack of co-operation.

    The rest) Not worth comment.
