The Democratic race is starting to resemble a compulsory oppressed minorities course taught by political consultants. Let's stop squabbling and elect the best nominee.

  • Hillary Clinton Speaks

Hillary did not mis-speak about Rev. King. No Matter how many times you say she did. it does not make it so. I realize the difference between perception and reality. However, Dean did not scream, and Bill and Hillary did not speak against Blacks.

  • Transference

Trouble is, lots of people vote for particular candidates based on who they remind them of, or something similar.

Does Hillary remind you of your first wife?

Does Obama remind you of your pool boy?

These are not questions that we really want to address. We want to believe that the brains of Hillary and Barack are somehow disembodied and not connected to the bodies that supply them with nutrients.

We may think about, but we do not want to discuss publicly, whether individual candidates are still reproductively active or suffer from constipation, headaches, or hot flashes, and how this may affect their perception of the world and their performance in the Oval Office, even though it has certainly been a factor in at least one recent presidency.

A large chunk of the electorate at large is not mature enough or sophisticated enough to have a serious discussion of the elements that the presidency really has to deal with, such as border security, immigration policies, foreign policy, declaring wars, sustaining the value of the dollar, sustainable growth, ensuring adequate supplies of energy, preventing environmental degredation, and so on.

Nor does it really understand the dual role of the presidency, which also involves playing the part of head of state, Father or Mother of the nation, in the family of nations.

Contrast the United Kingdom where the ceremonial role of Mother of the nation is played by the Queen, whose role is purely symbolic without any political power at all. (While she is "advised" by her Prime Minister, any attempt to disregard his [or her] "advice" would lead to an immediate abolition of the monarchy.)

However, all of these hidden emotions come into play when people make choices at the ballot box, regardless of the manifestos of the candidates, so in the end, nothing that any of the candidates do or say will make any difference.

If the winning candidate turns out to be a woman or a black man or a Mormon, then this will be a reflection of changing power blocs in our society more than any particular quality of the individual elected.

Personally, now, I want Barack Obama to win, because this may indicate that White voters are prepared to judge a man by the content of his character rather than by the color of his skin, and I think this is important for America and it is important that the rest of the world sees that this is true of America.

  • Right.

When has Obama done anything to stir the pot?

I haven't heard one word from Obama or one of his spokespeople about race or gender,

Permit me to open your eyes.

There you go, folks, Obama's campaign co-chair - not just some unauthorized supporter - attacking Senator Clinton with not just race and sex, but also flat-out lies.

  • Campaigning as Themselves

Are you DAFT, sir? I think they have you playing too many roles here at this magazine. Do they make you work in accounting as well? Did you just finish a 7 hour shift airily self-pontificating before they told you you owe them an article, too? Like your fellow "writer" Mr. Greenwald - you all don't seem to work these things through too clearly, but get on an idea that seems cogent in a burst and ride it all the way, until it sputters to a stultifying end.

Take the side point you make, they are the KEY ones:

"...if elected she will tear off the tough-guy mask and emerge as who she really is. In other words, the hope that Clinton is actually a stealth "woman" -- that is, not addicted to military solutions and favoring diplomacy -- is the best thing she has going for her now."

"Obama is not going to change his lofty message until he gets into the White House, if he does -- because doing so is too risky."

So, what do we have here: two candidates that are running under disguises?! Not quite what Democrats, America nor the World needs - to wake up and find out that the current occupant has been faking us all the way to 1600 Penn. Ave. - just so she or he COULD get there.. and now.. meet the NEW president.

There is ONE democrat who has led the way on EVERY issue AND is TELLING people what he'll do when he arrives. That's John Edwards.

PS - good on ya for dredging up this quote. You musta been waiting to use it for years. Was it Nexis, or you read it before?

You don't have equality until everyone gets their fair share of abuse. One of Vince Lombardi's black players once said, "He treats us all alike -- like dogs." This is a desirable state.

And FOOTBALL, too... didja play? Or was that your own Macho thing, to look all man-tuff.

    Then this one:

There are plenty of social conservatives who are still fighting modernity...

Yeah - and most of them are RUNNING for the Republican TICKET.. HA! Didja see Huckabee - doesn't believe in EVOLUTION! Har!

But - the fundamental issue here is that the ONLY thing you should be writing, instead of these windy pieces - THREE pages?! - is that John Edwards is running a campaign that involves POLICY TODAY!

  • Primary system

This so-called feud between the Obama and Clinton camps illustrates how this primary system of choosing candidates for the presidency is deeply flawed and needs to be replaced. If the trend in the Democratic primary continues til the end the candidate chosen will be battered and bruised beyond repair. As stated in the article this could well lead to a Republican victory. It is time to revamp our way of choosing candidates for the presidency.

  • Getting a little winded on the high road?

The Ruckus is over for now

It was the pundits and Hillary camaping that started this.

Today Obama once again took the high road and was the first to try to quell the controversy that flared between the Obama and Hillary campaign. He sad he did not want the campaign "to denigrate into such a tit-for-tat, back and forth that we loose sight of why all of us are doing this"...."we share the same goals,; we're all Democrats; we all believe in civil rights; we all believe in equal rights". Then an hour later, Clinton campaign then issued a similar statement.

Meanwhile the Clinton campaign is suing in NV in an attempt to keep caucuses off the Las Vegas strip. The Democrats had agreed months ago to allow caucuses along the strip because of the hours of the casino workers, so the workers could have an opportunity to participate in the vote. Now that the union that represents all these people has endorsed Obama, the Hilary campaign wants to change the rules. Typical HRC campaign strategy.

The Clinton campaign is not suing in NV, the Nevada State Education Association is. That union hasn't endorsed anyone. Of course, Hitlery ordered them not to endorse her to make it appear that they're capable of thinking for themselves when they're really just part of the Clinton Police State.

But then a simple web search would show that a lot of unions in Vegas are pissed at the Culinary Workers' Local 226 - see http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2008/jan/15/pilar/

And if Obama is so concerned about letting everyone's vote count, why isn't his name on the ballot in Michigan?
