Thrasher
YOu are still not giving evidence or examples for his bullshit claims. We in Europe do not have a self-image problem, I assure you. And maybe you should just feel bad for children in Africa, oh, I don't know...because they're dying?

Did Gary Kamiya Even Read Steinem's editorial?
Or did he just decide to enact it?
While, astonishingly, pretending he isn't a Hillary-basher smitten with his own embarrassing, imagined, or projected racial drama in every single column he writes about this race? Stop squabbling about race? You first, Norman Mailer.
If Salon is going to publish a story castigating women for daring to open their mouths about the ways they're being attacked on gender and race (Steinem's editorial was a complex, balanced, fair effort to address this subject and elevate this conversation, and it was entirely misrepresented here -- those wishing to know what she actually wrote should read it, not this biased fantasy), then they should at least have the dignity to say so in the headline instead of frankly misrepresenting the content of the piece.
Kamiya, more than any other journalist covering this issue, needs to take the time to examine his biases before accusing others of bias. Just look at the things he writes about the candidates. It is absolutely astonishing that he, of all people, would feel comfortable writing a piece like this. Astonishing.

Thrasher, You're as slippery as an eel
Although you have not upset my equilibrium, because I've thoroughly trounced your specious points, you are upsetting my circadian rhythm. It is evening here now and I'm thinking of having a "hot toddy", which is made with whiskey. You seem to have a problem with tea-drinking. I criticised America's FOREIGN POLICY, as you very well know, while you were spouting about how rotten and racist the U.S. is. I'm delighted that you've now changed your mind about your own country and that you are thanking your lucky stars that you live in such a great place. Thrasher, you are the living proof that "Wonders will never cease" and that people who have a permanent grievance are very boring. You've also proved to me that Americans have a very undeveloped sense of humour. Now I'm going to wish you good-night from my little corner of the planet, while I wonder whether my "night-cap" should be made from Powers "Pure Gold" whiskey or from some other brand. I hope you won't get into a terrible tizzy that the Americans can't make good whiskey and that the French make the best brandy, while German and Czech beers are highly regarded.

kaleun: I am sure even europeans do not need to be spoon served about obvious facts..I am right..Yes?/
please take the time to read the banter she was engaged with me including the insulting passages about Rosa Parks and her mind numbing posts about privledged white woman and tired anti-americanthemes woven inthe bulk of her posts..
More importantly if you do not want to read all of those passges just stick around I have no doubt her addiction to habit will surface again and of course when it does I will make sure I educate her in a gentile manner with you observing from the sidelines auditing the entire ordeal and my posts of course...
-
maureen: just remember to tell your hubby how you were unable to match wits with an american one that was Black
I am sure he does not approve of you taking up his evening drinking cheap whiskey and ruiminating about me all nite long.
I would be more than happy to correspond with the old chap and give him a short report on how unimpressed I was with you despite your spunk and spirited efforts ( was it the cheap irish whiskey or the knock-off germany brew)to impress me..
Sweet dreams love of course hoping when you toss and turn tonite those moves will have been inspired by me your favorite american colored guy...lol,lol,lol

No, by all means, spoonfeed me
since I can find neither insult to Rosa Parks nor anti-Americansism. Maybe it's because of my bad eyes. So all you need to do is quote her, and you will have made your point. Right now you are only telling me to find something and if I don't find it that is my fault. But that's not how it works. I'll give you an example.
I'm going to say you are being sexist. Not "You are a sexist" just "you are being sexist" since it might not be how you normally act. Now why do I think so? Look it up in your posts! ...

See, that ain't exactly fair, right? So how about I quote you:
"would be more than happy to correspond with the old chap and give him a short report on how unimpressed I was with you despite your spunk and spirited efforts ( was it the cheap irish whiskey or the knock-off germany brew)to impress me.."
To me, it just seems sexist, when you are talking to a woman who is disagreeing with you, to say that you want to tell her husband how badly you think she's being. That's like if she said she wanted to tell your white friends how disagreeable you are being.
See my point? So, by all means spoonfeed. Be precise, it can't hurt.

give me a break
Kamiya spends the first chunk of this article complaining about columns like Gloria Steinem's that kicked off this whole race vs. gender distraction... then he turns around and does the exact same thing as Steinem, in reverse -- but at greater length. Steinem complains about sexism and dismisses race as if it's not that bad. Kamiya is just doing the opposite, asking over and over "well, is sexism REALLY that bad, c'mon?" Which is just as stupid and plays into the whole ridiculous "race vs. gender" argument just as much!
Steinem is a white woman. It makes sense for her to talk about sexism, she's been thinking and writing about it for decades. But she's obviously no expert on racism. She has no experience being a target of white-majority racist institutions, stereotypes, and cultural legacies like Obama does, even if she can watch it happen.
Gary Kamiya is a half-Japanese guy. I'd happily read his thoughts on racism in the US, what it's like to be multiracial, etc. But come on, it's patronizing to have a guy go on and on about how sexism isn't really that bad, women aren't really affected by narrow stereotypes, etc. What the hell do you know? Certainly nothing from personal experience.
Me? I'm a half-Japanese woman. I think they're both acting like idiots with tunnel vision, even if they know better.
