Whether the debate is worth having
The debate is worth having because it illustrates how campaigns are skillfully managed to avoid substantive issues. Clinton's statement was skillful: it had the predictable result, Clinton insisted that her words were construed by the other side and by the media, and nothing substantive was discussed ad interim.
Provided that one recognizes this aspect of campaigns, the debate is worth having. If the debate has to be limited to whether it is good for the Democratic party (or some other party), then the debate is not worth having. One learns to censor oneself--the value of avoiding substantive discusion becomes internalized; also, 2/3rds of human conversation is gossip, so this can be exploited.
I have no interest in supporting media or campaigns that set the agenda, filter information, control the distribution of concerns and limit the spectrum of admissible debate.

@ P Breedlove
Fondest kudos to you for this wonderful, to-the-point passage:
Pakistan has nuclear weapons! We're in two wars and that asshole in the whitehouse is itching to start a third! Too many Americans in inner cities and in rural parts of our country are living in abject misery! Corporations control your lives! I can't sell my house in this f*cking real estate market! My cleaning lady can't afford health insurance! My little brother has a record all because he likes weed (maybe a little too much, but still...)! The federal judiciary is controlled by federalists! Like 90% of my daughter's Christmas presents were made in China! To add insult to injury--their kids are smarter than ours and they almost killed one of my kitties! And your next (Republican) president won't give a shit about any of this!

maureen: You still seem lost at sea..the Ali quote was a gift to give you some foundation
BTW being an activist is not just about what I want to achieve or my goals..please do a google on activists if that will help you understand...
I did revisit my posts and fom my vanatage point I simply cannot observe how I hate whites and females. I have 4 sisters, wife, daughter, and numerous other woman in my life so I think you are again taking personal my macro constructs..
Yes by your very birth in the western world you are a privledged white woman now of course that does make you inherently evil or a terrible person, the question is what are you going to do with your privledged status as white woman???
Are you going to be like Hillary and discount MLK and others?? Are you going to be like some of the female prime ministers of the past like England, Israel, India ( sell weapons to South Africa during aparthied when they were all in power??) and so forth..
Are you going to be like Mother Teresa, Rosa Parks, Barbra Jordan,Dame Shirley Bassey( I love her voice..lol,lol,lol)
I make a difference do YOU???

Brief response to Thrasher
I worked for two years in West Africa, as I've already stated.
What have you done for the people of Africa, if you have such an emotional bond with the land of your ancestors? There is dire poverty in most African countries, genocide in Darfur, and Kenya is now on the brink of civil war. Please don't talk down to me if all you can do is wriggle away from my questions. Every time I ask a straight question here I get condescended to as a "Brit chick" or told how privileged I am because the sun can burn my skin. I'm persistent and will keep asking awkward questions, whether you like it or not.

well my dear
First of all, I'd like to know what kind of mental contortionism you would have to perform to think I was a Jewish girl, because I'm neither, sorry.
Second of all, I have a hard time believing that something like "I am not a good german solider nor a modern person of a germany society that followed orders....sorry to disappoint.." was meant to imply anything OTHER than the person to whom you were referring was a Nazi.
Or perhaps you're just inexplicably racist against Germans? And you like to imply that, because you're allegedly not drinking the German Kool-Aid, other people must be?
So really what you're saying is that we just like brats and beer?
Yeah, I believe that. Sure. I've got a bridge in New York I can sell you, too.
You, my dear, are the epitome of "arrogant prick." You are exactly like all the white racists in the world. I know... because I know quite a few white racists. Actually I've been threatened by them before. You create a world paradigm for yourself, and then anyone who doesn't agree must be wrong. Anyone who does not see the world the exact way you see it is a fool. Anyone who is different from you deserves nothing from you.
Do you know what the Germans did? They tried to create Christ and God in their own image. Much like you have done. You have claimed at least twice that Jesus was a "black Jew" when any intellectually honest person in the world would never be able to say that. Even James Cone, one of the great black liberation theologians, admitted that his "black Messiah" was allegorically and not literally black.
So you, my dear, are a fool unworthy of even my contempt. Sorry. But that's just how the cookies crumble. If you want to pull that stick out of your butt and converse with human beings like a human being, then maybe people will actually start paying attention to you. Until then, you are absolutely no better than any neo-Nazi: Full of hot air, self-adulation, and not much else.

Yay @Ian Tepoot
I think its important to note that a day after the candidates have presumably called a moratorium on the politics of race for the time being, Salon chooses to run a front page article on the subject. Can we not let the candidates be the ones who fall off the wagon without pushing them off by keep echo-chambering the narrative?
In general, it seems that through our own lack of diligence to our duty as citizens to inform ourselves and research our choices, we are being infected by this tendency for the memes put out by the campaigns, media et. all to become our reality.
