  • verbal masturbation

    This is perhaps the most embarrassing piece of hyperbole yet written about the Obama "phenomenon." Such soaring rhetoric! Such noble ideas! Such malarky! Let me inject a smidge of reality into all these precious ideas. The U.S. presidency is a very real and exacting job, not a symbolic position. It requires a broad swath of knowledge and experience. Haven't we already learned what comes of bestowing the crown on someone who embodies a mood or an ideal rather than someone who's qualified to carry out the duties of the office? I don't care how many drops of what color blood Obama has in his veins or how pretty his speechifying is to college students. He has the thinnest resume of anyone in this presidential race. He talks out of both sides of his mouth and says absolutely nothing. His voting record -- when he actually has voted "yes" or "no" rather than "present" -- is timid and in no way entitles him to wrap himself in the mantle of "change." Some of his professional and personal associations are troublesome, to say the least. And during his eight years in Springfield and his one year as a full-time U.S. senator, he did absolutlely nothing that demonstrated even a modicum of leadership ability. Apparently the only thing Obama has done well is to pass out some pretty damn intoxicating Kool Aid to would-be intellectuals who are starved for something to wax rhapsodic about. Wax on at your own peril. Some day your hysterical blindness could come back to bite you on your asterisk.

  • My favorite poem::

    Incident

    Once riding in old Baltimore,

    Heart-filled, head-filled with glee;

    I saw a Baltimorean

    Keep looking straight at me.

    Now I was eight and very small,

    And he was no whit bigger,

    And so I smiled, but he poked out

    His tongue, and called me, "Nigger."

    I saw the whole of Balimore

    From May until December;

    Of all the things that happened there

    That's all that I remember.

    Cullen could have used the occasion to coin the term we use here in DC: Baltimorons.

    Meanwhile, this train has only left the station. We have a long way to go, but like the longest journeys, it starts with a departure. Hang in there. It's time.

  • Just the Facts.....

    Sigh, two primaries and still the upcoming 2008 elections are more about the cult of personalities no matter what media source you approach...

    Is it possible in 2008 to write a series of well researched, considered and balanced articles on how the main Democratic candidates have campaigned on issues and followed through on them from past elections, to look at their voting/contribution records, memberships and affiliations, to look at legislative committees they have sat on and make it interesting enough for people to stop read and understand their options? On how have they dealt with the need to stand firm when needed and/or to compromise when that is the only path for resolution? To know how well prepared are they for the unique challenges that do and will continue to face us as a country that is becoming increasingly diverse in the number of arenas that we use to define ourselves?

    I have amazingly strong feelings and anger about what the Bush presidency has brought America to and right now my concern is the best candidate for bringing us back from the edge. The person being black, white, biracial, male, female is secondary. What they have carried out by their past record/actions and what they are willing to commit to for the future in the way they conduct themselves in the present campaign is the primary concern I have. So far I am left with nothing but questions and no clear answer to which Democratic candidate is our best hope for 2008.

  • Hillary will not be VP on Obama's ticket because she is white and a woman.She leverages her white female privledges....

    In America's pecking order as a white female of privledge HRC could never sacrifice her agenda for the greater good. White females in part because of thier inherent whiteness and thier history of riding on the coatails of white males, have always used this vicarious racial power to leverage themselves at the expense of all others especially Blacks.

    HRC as a privledged white woman has an entitlement mindset with regard to Blacks, she feels we owe her ... Hillary had the audacity to toss MLK under the bus to remind Black folks that at the end of the day LBG freed our Black asses . LBG of course was a southern white male like her husband.

    White feminist's never connected with Black woman becuase of this surrogate white male demeanor they displayed when they interact with Black woman. Black woman are often victimized twice by white feminists with thier sexism and racism towards them.

    Hillary does not have the courage to step back for the country and share power with Obama, she is a reflection and a parrot of her surrogate white male role model who of course rejects any degree of parity and equality with non-whites.

    Only a white woman playing the gender card like Hillary would have the audacity to slamm MLK knowing the good negro Obama would not strike back. I gues she knew as a white famale since Obama's mother is white like her she could leverage herself to the degree that she has..

  • Hillary's true nature..

    Clearly becuase of her white female privledge status she knew she could slam MLK with immunity partly becuase Obama is afraid to fire back and defend his Black credentials he has handcuffed himself but of course I have not...

    Hillary's revisionist history to step on MLK to was a move to remind white voters that as a white person she could do that was quite revealing on a number of fronts...

    Hillary knew as the spouse of a southern male collateral attacks on MLK affirms white southerns who still resent taking it on the chin because of King's legacy... Hillary made a move like her hubby( as governor) when he refused to commute a black mentally ill male from the death penalty in Arkansas to prove to southern whites he was still a 'law and order" white candidate..

    White female privledge is really a sore subject when you discuss it with Black woman inparticular those young credentialed Black females in the job market..

    Hillary's selfishness as no boundaries..
