The Iraq debacle handed Democrats a golden opportunity to deal the GOP a mortal blow and change America's flawed Mideast policies. They played it safe.

  • Jew-Hatred and the Left

    Hi,

    Gary wrote the following:

"A majority of Democratic senators voted for a dangerous amendment, co- sponsored by über-hawk Joe Lieberman, and written by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, that defines an Iranian military unit as a "foreign terrorist organization.""

The only reason Senator Lieberman has been given the affectionate moniker of "uber-hawk" is because he's a culturally conservative democrat who doesn't believe the new liberal line that we should just shaft the Jews for the sake of making a few million disgruntled Muslims, who have been bread to hate America, to hate themselves, and to hate their wives, placated by our submission to their will. Perhaps Gary has decided to label the good Senator a hawk because Jews are supposed to be pussies who push for social justice but allow themselves to be deported in droves. I don't really care why Gary has decided to single out the good Senator from the rest of the uber-hawks, some of whom have taken decidedly more strident positions than the uber-hawk himself. It feels to me like the same old Jew-hating double-standard.

The Israelis are held to a standard that no country can meet. They are bombed EVERY DAY. They get rocketed with missiles by people hell-bent on killing every one of them. But heaven forbid they respond.. and heaven forbid there's a lobby out there that tries to represent them. Did it ever occur to Gary that a military unit, like the Iranian revolutionary guards, which is training, equipping, and aiding Hezbollah and proxy soldiers in Iraq, really is a terrorist organization? I didn't realize the bar was that low. I figured that anyone who's killing our troops is bad and should pay the price for their badness. Golly-gee, I guess right and wrong don't matter anymore. Perhaps I should start supporting CAIR, a homegrown terrorist organization hell-bent on bring blessed Sharia to us all. They can't be all bad. They have nice beards, know how to make coffee and tea, and only stab us in the back when we ain't looking at them.

I'd like to know how Gary knows that Lieberman's bill was written by AIPAC. I'd like to know his sources. Aren't reporters supposed to reveal how they know things? Isn't that called good scholarship?

Not for Salon! Salon will print any Bush-bashing, Jew-hating, conspiratorial slur so long as it serves their interests.

Senator Lieberman represents, like Scoop Jackson before him, and LBJ before him, a democratic party that had a backbone. The kind of backbone that got us through WWII and Vietnam. Gary and the rest of the democratic losers have become a party of defeatism, a party that vilifies AIPAC, an organization made up of Rabbis, lawyers, civil rights workers, students, and middle class knuckleheads like me. We're the people who helped push affirmative action, who believe strongly in the separation of church and state, who spend more money per capita than any other ethnic group on the planet trying to make people's lives better. But all of that doesn't matter in the final analysis. The moment we decide to put our money, our time, and our religious passion into something the left has always secretly hated, like us, all our good deeds are for naught.

I don't care what Gary thinks. I will continue giving money to AIPAC and to other causes that try and keep Israel's good friend on her side. There's nobody else, and I have a right to speak and act my conscience.

Speaking of which, f*&ck you, Gary.

  • The Current Candidates Do Not Present A Clear Alternative...

Gary, you are correct on this. So, here's a scenario:

Al Gore could enter the race, and say what Hilary, Barack, Edwards do not say. He can say the W. Bush is and always has been utterly wrong on Iraq, and that he (Gore) will get us out in one month after inauguration (= February 2009).

I believe Democrats, independents, and the US military will jump straight onto his bandwagon.

If not, no big deal. Gore loses nothing, and the current group just continues on to nomination, election (?), and better government (?).

BUT! If this strikes a chord, and people vote for Gore, and he pulls us out, then, Hallelujah!!!!!

  • Political suicide: Don't insist it won't happen no matter what

I'm afraid sesanders only shows why the Democrats cannot and will not be able to get their act together. Rather than showing how Democratic critics are hurting the progressive cause, sesanders has only highlighted how weak the Democrats really are.

Yes, everyone should just wake up to the reality that Republicans (and "the Mormon") really are very scary, and there really isn’t any way for a politician to distance one’s self from the most virulently hawkish factions in American politics. So please just shush up everyone, or somebody might get the impression that Democrats aren’t actually getting anything done.

Of course once the Democrats are in the White house everything will change, the campaign will be over. They’ll be able to get serious and start working, just like when they took over Congress.

  • Dems, Repubs, it doesn't matter to AIPAC

Israel comes first chums. AIPAC and Friends say so (to all those that didn't know, AIPAC funds up to 65% of Democratic campaigns and 35% of Republican Campaigns, and Pelosi/Reid and other "Dems" are in the top ten list of all time contributions from "The Lobby").

Disagree with Israel's policies or our Israel-First political establishment and they sic the ADL and its various other acolytes on you. You are smeared as a "hitler", "antisemitic" (self hating if you happen to be a Jew), or some other such nonsense that has nothing to do with Israel's Zionist foreign policy.

Be prepared to spill more blood and spend more money for Israel. AIPAC got Cheney and the Neocons Iraq, and it is time for the Lobby to return the favor.

Welcome to the past 35 years, welcome to the United States of Israel. Ironic that if Irsael were to become the 51st state it would actually have less control over the US Government. Pathetic.

Who cares about Israel? To quote Michael Scheuer (all from one interview):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ohz0omUjIE

"I hope Israel flourishes, I just don't think it is worth an American life or an American Dollar."

"What I'm telling you, sir, is that I'm more interested in the Survival of the United States."

"What I am saying, sir, is that we should have revisited the situation after 1973, and not be the unqualified, sole supporter of Israel. At the moment I think it earns Americans tremendous pain and increasingly dead Americans fighting wars that are not ours to fight."

Maher: But Israel is a Democracy in a part of the world that has none.

    Scheuer: So what, sir?

"In 35 years the Congress has managed to move Daylight Savings time up three weeks. We're going to pay for oil with American lives in the near future."

Wake up. Everyone's favorite Atheist Bill Maher is even a closet Zionist. Maher looked like someone had killed his puppy when Scheuer schooled him on the blowback that Israel's policies create. Maher should have done his homework, Scheuer is serious business.
