Stephanopoulos and Ledeen: together in the most accountability-free profession

Once one obtains Seriousness credentials in the Washington media, they are irrevocable no matter one's conduct.

The letters thread is now closed.

Now where is Max Boot these days?

Kinda missed Michael Ledeen, good to see he's still sharp.

Gleen, could you invite Ledeen, Kristol and Friedman onto your radio interview and ask them when we can expect to bomb Iran, please? The Democrats having been emasculated entirely by yesterday's overwhelming conservative reinvigoration at the polls, my inquiring mind wants to know.

Bloggers have become the much need counterbalance to journalism.

As far as Washington journalists go, look how far Jeff Gannon got. Look at the credentials he was "given" before he was ran out of town.

How to Vet a Conclusion

There are reports of an abnormal atmosphere which probably means more security which may mean someone died who could conceivably be Khomeini? HELL YEAH PRINT THAT SHIT!

The Dream of reporting

It won't be long until it's normal to hear these so-called experts speaking on air like this:

Ledeen: Sitting here right now, George, I feel like saying something about how President Obama was overheard last night proclaiming he was a secret socialist.

Stephanopoulos: You are saying that President Obama has been heard proclaiming he is a secret socialist?

Ledeen: Yes, that is what I feel like saying. And I can even report hearing Obama say that in my head.

Stephanopoulos: This is a huge breaking story. For those of you just tuning in, we are receiving reports from direct witnesses that President Obama is now declaring himself to be a secret socialist.

Jeez.

Buffoonery

It's what you get when buffoons are presented (and, apparently, widely accepted) as serious.

On a semi-related note, did anyone catch The Daily Show's panel discussion during last night's show - the one where the pundits on the panel predicted what they were going to be saying tomorrow (today)?

Ledeen, cowardly and mendacious

I brought this to the attention of Ledeen at his blog several times, especially in the context of his spreading the rumor about Obama's thesis in the same week. I gave him the links to several sources that had photos and stories of Khamenei meeting others and asked him to take responsibility for his part in spreading two rumors in a week. But he wouldn't; he's since deleted anything that mentioned the Khamenei rumor, and has actually removed the link to the Obama Thesis article from his home page on Pajamas Media. You can still see that here:

http://pajamasmedia.com/michaelledeen/2009/10/21/obama-and-the-constitution-he-has-his-doubts/

From any perspective, its absurd that this person is considered authoritative to comment on the freshness of bagels, much less issues of national importance.

Well, he *was* dead,

and then he wasn't. It's a Shi'ite thing, they can come back.

correction

he's since deleted anything that mentioned the Khamenei rumor

I meant the comments that I wrote on his blog concerning Khamanei

It's the medium, not the man...

But Glenn, Stephanopoulos passed on the rumor on his blog -- the place for all non-Serious stuff.

Your problem is that you believe stuff on blogs rather than discounting it immediately like all Serious people do. Just get with the program, instead of being such a shrill reactionary.

(And don't even countenance this as an example of MSMers poisoning the blogger pot. If you don't think it's always been a chamber pot you'll never be Serious.)

There are twos other professions that are worse

Neither a CEO of a company that has screwed up his corporation nor a WS trader who has screwed up the world economy, loses any prestige or credibility or money. Still being in the third lowest integrity profession, Beltway "journalism," should have some cost. Actually it does thanks to bloggers like you Glenn. Eventually these sorry Serious Experts will become irrelevant even in broadcast because other than the sheep idiots, thinking people will depend on the Internet provided the corporations don't take control of free Internet access.

I encourage commenters to respond to an email I received below:

Dear Paul,

The Federal Trade Commission is investigating the crisis in journalism — and they need to hear from you by Friday.

If the public doesn't weigh in now, the loudest voices will be the Big Media lobbyists and corporate execs who got us into this mess.

We've created a quick survey to make it easy for you to participate. Tell the FTC What You Need from the News (see sig)

The FTC is accepting public comments now in preparation for a two-day summit in December on the future of news. We know Big Media will be there, pushing for more mergers and consolidation. Their lobbyists want to relax antitrust laws so they can fix prices and prop up old business models at the expense of innovation and good jobs for journalists. We don’t need more of the same bad policies. We do need to invest in more public interest journalism, support promising new media models, protect the First Amendment, and encourage diverse voices online, on the air and in print. Make Sure the FTC Hears from You (see sig)

The FTC needs to hear your ideas for saving the news. And we need to act quickly — the public comment period ends Friday, Nov. 6.

Josh Stearns, Program Manager, Free Press & SaveTheNews.org

P.S. We need to spread the word about this important public comment period. Share this message on Facebook, spread the word on Twitter or forward this e-mail to your friends.

"Khamenei Said to be in Coma"

"...by me. Story at eleven."

I hope we all learned an important lesson from this debacle. If you're going to post unsubstantiated garbage, a minimum of three Drudge sirens is required for credibility.

Credible

The bazaar will apparently be closed tomorrow, and perhaps Friday as well, pending developments.

Ledeen has his thumb on the pulse of Iran. The bazaar.

How exotic!

Wednesday, November 4, 2009 09:03 AM

whatever - but don't put down the bazaar -

as the most reliable source for information!

(or are you just jealous that they don't have one in Washington?)

Iran’s Leader Faults U.S. ‘Arrogance’ in Nuclear Talks

By ROBERT F. WORTH

Published: November 3, 2009

BEIRUT, Lebanon — Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, lashed out at the United States in a speech on Tuesday, criticizing what he called an arrogant American attitude toward nuclear talks and saying the Obama administration had not followed through on its promises of change.
