Celebrating Cronkite while ignoring what he did

Cronkite's best moment was when he did exactly that which today's journalists insist they must never do.

The letters thread is now closed.

This poll's a killer jlnum03

They did a poll in Baghdad and asked the Iraqis why they thought the Americans and their friends had invaded their country.

1. 1% believed it was to establish a democracy

2. 5% believed the goal was to 'assist the Iraqi people'.

3. The rest (94%) believed the invasion was motivated by the desire to take control of Iraq's resources (read oil, oil, oil) and to re-organize the Middle East in America and Israel's interests.

I think the 94% have it.

As for weapons of mass destruction:

In the fall of 2003 at the UN General Assembly the United States voted alone against implementation of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and alone with its new ally India against steps towards the total elimination of nuclear weapons. The United States voted alone against the 'observance of environmental norms in the drafting and implementation of disarmament and arms control agreements' and voted alone with Israel and Micronesia against steps to prevent nuclear proliferation in the Middle East- the pretext for invading Iraq. A resolution to prevent militarization of space passed 174 to 0 with 4 abstentions: the United States, Israel, Micronesia, Marshall Islands. A negative US vote or abstention amounts to a double veto. The resolution is blocked, and is eliminated from reporting and history.

In the UN Security Council Bush and associates made it clear that getting rid of Saddam Hussein was not the purpose of their invasion of Iraq. At the summit meeting on the eve of the invasion they said that America, the UK and their allies would invade even if Saddam Hussein and his family left the country. The consequence of this meant that Bush and friends had effectively lowered the bar. No ties to terrorism were required for invasion, no WMDs were required for invasion. All that was required was that the US government felt it should invade. The real reason for the invasion was obvious. To establish military bases in a 'pacified' client state in the part of the world with 2/3 of the world's oil supplies. While you obsess over yellow cake (500 tons of it no less!) you're forgetting that your own government and intelligence services attacked America with anthrax. Who's going to protect you from them?

One problem with salon.com...

is that so many of its true believers are lazy. I will not say stupid. Witness the debate about yellow cake uranium in Iraq. I stated that Saddam had it. Many of the fanatic left-wing America haters viciously attacked me for that statement. Not true, they screamed. All they had to do was search the web and they would have known that it was true! Even if they were not aware of this simple fact, all they had to do was research it. Saddam had tons of yellow cake uranium. Over 500 tons of it! And I was viciously and personally attacked for stating a simple fact!

The left-wing believes in what they are ordered to believe. They were told that there was no yellow cake. And, like the true believers in Hitler's Germany, and Stalin's Soviet Union...they believed it.

But that is salon.com for you.

Madame Nhu was most powerful woman in Virtnam and has said "Whoever has Amerikans for

allies doesn't need enemies". Her husband and her brother-in-law, President Diem, were assassinated in November 1963 but it was reported as suicide. Coincidentally, President Kennedy was assassinated in exactly the same month and year but we do know that he did not commit suicide. Recently, Michail Saakashvili of Georgia got palsy-walsy with Amerika but was jilted by lover US of A. Coup in Honduras (Central Amerika) not half as exciting as election in Iran with Amerikan media going gaga about charming demonstrators and one writer to Salon trilling and tweeting:"They look just like me". CIA is now twiddling its thumbs about what to do next but as Scrooge put it "Bah! Humbug!".

Thank you writing a post without any personal attacks.

It is customary to post the URL from where you extract your statements/facts. Were these Baa'tist supporters who were polled? Were any Kurds polled? Were they asked if they wanted Saddam still in charge?

99% of them may believe Mohammad flew on a winged white horse, but that does not make it true.

You are aware, I hope, that the U.S. has not seized any oil fields.

Are you aware that for many years the U.S. has pursued a successful policy of reducing the numbers and throw-weight of nuclear weapons? We have gone from 25,000 weapons to about 1,700 weapons so far.

One of the U.N. votes you mentioned was an obvious attempt to remove nuclear weapons from Israel, a small nation of about 7 million, surrounded by hundreds of millions of Moslems that want to destroy Israel. Israel, unlike Iraq (in the past) and Iran, and other Moslem countries, has not vowed to totally destroy anyone.

You mentioned "The resolution is blocked, and is eliminated from reporting and history." Then, how is it you know about it? Document this please.

State your source about the U.S. invading even if Saddam left Iraq. Remember: Saddam never left Iraq! What is your point?

State your source that "your own government and intelligence services attacked America with anthrax". Document this please.

Did someone say reporters? Boston? Here is a report on government ...

I see by the Boston Herald that Scott Mason is an eagle scout from Massachusetts and that he was praised back in April after he spent three nights on Mount Washington in New Hampshire with a sprained ankle. He survived the ordeal using his scouting skills. It was one of those heartwarming stories that make the news.

But now the sorry ass state of New Hampshire is now demanding payment of $25,000 for the rescue! Officials say he was negligent in continuing on the hike despite his injury. It appears that the “free” in the state motto of “Live Free or Die” should not be read literally.

Authorities in New Hampshire say that 17 year old Mason was not prepared for the hike and most importantly should have turned around when he hurt his ankle. They are seeking the largest fine in the state’s history under for rescues caused by unreasonable conduct. Rescues, a core governmental duty, should not be charged against citizens absent the most egregious circumstances. The are seeking this fine from a child.

The state makes millions on tourism to these mountains. Perhaps potential tourists should look into alternatives.

And that is the way it is.
