Let the games begin. From the NYT:
The Central Intelligence Agency withheld information about a secret counterterrorism program from Congress for eight years on direct orders from former Vice President Dick Cheney, the agency’s director, Leon E. Panetta, has told the Senate and House intelligence committees, two people with direct knowledge of the matter said Saturday.
The report that Mr. Cheney was behind the decision to conceal the still-unidentified program from Congress deepened the mystery surrounding it, suggesting that the Bush administration had put a high priority on the program and its secrecy.

Jeesus Christ calm down, sir. Bernbart made the point that it was on the front page of the NYT right after you claimed that the article would get no media exposure. I made the same point about the same time. She's right--obviously if its on the NYT front page its not exactly buried. You're right in that releasing it on Friday is a typical way orgs, governments and individuals bury the news themselves. You may be right that this is the only day the story will get any play, and in that case the Obama admin's strategy worked. But you were definitely wrong on the other point.
I bring this up for two reasons:
A. its quite odd to see people claiming that they will never read papers of record again, when so many of us including GG rely on such papers for stories. Sure, our mainstream media is AWFUl, but if you read those papers every day, you find out all kinds of things. MOST OF WHICH ARE BURIED OR DON'T GET THE ATTENTION THEY DESERVE! People should look at as many sources as possible to try to divine the truth of what's going on. That's just critical media consumption one oh one.
B. When we make statements that are categorically wrong, in support of issues that we support, we open them up for easy pickings by right-wing and Obama-wing critics.
C. Nowhere was I insulting to you. Unless you think being told you're wrong is an insult.
That's three. But you get the point.
I write for two reasons.
1) I hope you have been out slaying some conservatives, as we sure could use the help.
2) I fully understood your point about late Friday being the best time for a politician to release bad news or do a document dump, or whatever. This is such a truism in political and news circles that I am surprised any fool would jump up to disagree with that. I would be surprised if less than 95% of UT commenters did not know this old political trick. (it does not always work, but they always try it)
But, you know we have special snowflakes here. I guess he was not getting any attention, what with Glenn doing two posts and dividing the regulars attention. (only speculation)
Omooex's point was perfectly clear. No "attention" grabbing that I saw. CSlayer just misunderstood.
But in Heru's defense you have to be able to reassemble these little symbols as words in your head to make sense of them, and for people suffering from aphasia, that's very difficult. Don't pity him, he needs your love and understanding...
My first post on the subject:
Friday is said to be the mass grave for stories. However, one quibble. The NYT's IG report coverage is on the front page of the NYT today. On the issue of time--which is the government's doing--you're right. On the space part--which is the media's choice--you're way off. Here's a link to a capture of the paper's front page...

Bollox, I fully approve of whacking that particular mole with a mallet as soon as it dares raises its head in the lawn. There is no learning in the woman. In spite of my presenting her with cast iron copper bottomed prove that the Osama confession videos were fake she still insisted in trumpeting the false hood that they were genuine because that is still the orthodox line to take. And she will always cleave to the orthodox because she knows which side her allowance and any future alimony is buttered on.
Might as well try and disabuse a cuckoo in a cuckoo clock of any false notions it might have entertained rather than waste time with bernbert.
Glenn, I appreciate your writing and hard work. I do appreciate your exposure of the fact that the Obama administration is simply "towing the line" (if not ramping it up) of the Bush administrations policies on detention and the war on terror. I say this because all along I was convinced that Obama would do and say whatever was necessary to beat Hillary Clinton/John McCain, all the while knowing that he had no intention of following through on his "proposed" policies. I believe that we all saw the extent of his commitment on the wednesday after the election when all sorts of policies where walked back.
Having said that: The problem with your blog IMHO is as follows: 1) you routinely incorporate vast amounts of text into your posts as quotations, which on a full reading of the context, usually do not entirely support (or barely encourage) your opinion; 2) You continously cite left wing blogs in your analysis as some sort of support for you positions, which in essence is just another form of the echo chamber (see the vast majority of your postings for proof that GLENN GREENWALD should be our world wide leader); 3) you continually run down what you refer as Mainstream Media because they will not engage you - reading your posts about anything other than your fundraiser, I would imagine that your behaviour is slightly above a petulant three year old, and as such, would not want to engage you either. Here's a tip - when you are speaking of a twice elected presidential slate as being so far off of the mainstream, evil, vile, and/or criminal, bring some actual evidence and have the courage of your convictions. If you honestly believe that they committed crimes (as opposed to what I think is sour grapes for Gore's humiliating loss and Kerry's follies) and have evidence of such, bring an action against them. Otherwise, quit complaining about the fact that most Americans want to move on; and
4) Finally, your rhetoric is way over blown all of the time. In my mind it tends to make you seem like an individual screaming at his computer and, in light of the fact that you appear to be doing nothing actively about your concerns other than pontificating, you expose your self to being considered something of a second rate left wing Rush Limbaugh.
Other than that, I enjoy your blog and look forward to your response.
