The NYT calls Iranian interrogation tactics "torture"

Techniques which the paper refuses to call "torture" when used by the U.S. magically transform when used by others.

Che: Negroponte

http://hyphenatedrepublic.wordpress.com/2005/02/22/the-next-logical-step-for-john-negroponte/

And what about Honduras, hunh?

There's a bit of unpleasantness there, we're led to believe, concerning the "overthrow" of some "president" or other, isn't there?

This is said to be the first "overthrow" of an elected "president" in Central America in 16 years, and it may mark a reversion to Things As They Used To Be in that part of the world.

And just how were they? Characterized by torture and murder, eh? Dictatorship by an oligarchic ruling class, yes? Supported in their torture, murder and dictatorship by the Foreign Policy Establishment (and the White House) in Washington DC, correct?

John Negroponte, bloody-handed war criminal, directed the activities of the torturers and murderers in Central America from his perch as American ambassador to Teguchigalpa, so they say. John Negroponte who provided his elegant expertise to the Iraqi death squads when he was ambassador to Baghdad, yes?

Is torture, murder and dictatorship by an oligarchic ruling class the way of the future, as it has been the way of the past in Central America?

Everything old is new again?

“insane? - Glenn?” – pieceofcake

I did not say that Glenn is insane.

This is what I said:

“So, if you don’t propose any new ideas as to what to do with the terrorists in the future, but, instead, keep saying the same things day after day, your writing might eventually fit the classical definition of insanity.”

The emphasis is on new ideas, new solutions. Right now, the subject of torture is a fixation with Gleen. Repeating the same facts without proposing anything at all will lead into that category.

I liked your comparison of Glenn with “a good soul standing on the corner of the street yelling: Repent ye sinner.”

To be realistic, how long is it going to take before the people get annoyed by the same message and walk right by this guy on the corner without even looking at him?

paulpsd7

Yes, you are correct and it is too bad in many respects.

I don't see much end to it unless Glenn wants to just say no more and make it apply to all concerned and not just one side. Or, ban the whole bunch. Or, ban just one side. Whatever.

As to "worldview", I would beg to differ with you a bit. I think "worldview" is the cause of the dust-ups in the first place. A reading of Thomas Sowell's work on conflicting visions would show the problem.

I have noticed that the worst personal attacks seem to always start when we get to seriously discussion on war and empire now that the Democrats control the government. Coincidence? I think not.

Paul

Did you actually read that whole post you're referring to?

London Lad, also

Firstly, Dholuo has no traditional written component, though some attempts have been made to give it a modern Latin based alphabet to prevent language death. Many of Kenya's traditional languages face language death, and those at risk are those where there is no formal written component.

This makes it an open question as to whether Barack Senior was fluent in the language. Let me know, I'm actually interested in the answer but don't have the time to research myself--as the official UT chronicler of Obama's African-ness, you are probably in a better position to know.

One thing's for certain, neither Junior or Senior could read or write the language. Careful; to play this game you must have exact information otherwise you come off sounding like grumbling, bigoted and ignorant twat [please pronounce this with British "ah", not American English "ah"].

dudes! -

you got to be careful - don't y'all know by now how much I love nonsense and absurdity -

Your posts always bring out the best in me and I can't resist to take us all over the top!

Do you really want that - bitches??

@heru-ur et al

A whole lot of bug-eyed insults flying around UT these days. The main guilty parties are Kitt, omooex, Jebbie, me, and a few others.

This is so true. Honestly, I think you guys have more in common than different in terms of worldview, and I think you're generally smart and well-intentioned. But since each thread degrades into another dick measuring contest between you, I've learned to simply scroll past everything you guys say.

(Which is NOT my way of claiming that my dick is longer. Even though it is. ;) )

I find your bug-eyed insults -- omooex

A whole lot of bug-eyed insults flying around UT these days. The main guilty parties are Kitt, omooex, Jebbie, me, and a few others.

You know you like it omooex, since you hurled insults my way day after day after day until I decided to play along again with the speckled egg bunch. Why whine when you are getting exactly what you want? I must be missing something here.

You want to see obsessive; look at Kitt --- that old drug pusher is obsessive. Butts in to every conversation to find something he does not like. Must be an extended bad trip.

Kitt comes out from under his rock on yet another thread

Hey asshat, nice to see you contribute to yet another thread. Not much there but then, you are the kitty.

The official languages of Kenya are Swahili and English.

Jebbie

On Open Letter to Barack Obama

Mr. Preesident -

Say Jebs you old git why not try writing your open letter to Barry the African in a lingo he might understand. Here is the one used by his father. The Dholuo language belongs to the Luo grouping within the Western Nilotic grouping of the Nilo-Saharan language family and is used in Kenya by the Luo tribe.

Can't do no harm seeing you can't write in English. What's with the "Mr Preesident"? You came over all like a fluttery eyed Marilyn at the thought of writing to your new Commander in Chieftain did you? Give it a rest son, its not his birthday yet.

'You've got a lot of nerve...'

Heru-ur at Ondellete: How many innocent children's lives will it take to slake your blood thirst?

-- heru-ur

About two days later:

Heru--ur at Ondelette: That, my friend, is a good question.

Reminds me of Bob Dylan's opening lyric from Positively 4th Street: "You've got a lot of nerve to say you are my friend."
