African is not a racist term and Brits are not prone to the same racism styles we have here.
Black people in the U.K. act just like white people in the U.K. - in America, you still have to act deferential and submissive most of the time because some white people in America are batshiat crazy and stupid.
As a matter of fact, the father's nationality is conveyed upon the children and Kenya celebrates Obama as a Kenyan and American.
I imagine that the Salon and NPR audiences overlap considerably. I know this isn't really a "call to action" blog, but why not suggest a donation boycott until they reverse stance? You've mentioned that they're hosting forums to discuss the issue, but what is there to discuss? Again, it's like creating a debate about whether the sky is blue.
Due to NPRs reliance on donor support (largely corporate, though I imagine execs read Salon as well), a boycott would be especially effective.
I haven't trusted NPR to be liberal or even neutral since the build-up to the invasion of Iraq when they "reported" "evidence" that Hussein was stockpiling material for the construction of nuclear weapons. There was plenty of expert testimony in other media to dispute the claims NPR supported.
Who is responsible at NPR for acceding to right-wing spin on policy issues? Or is it just that they are afraid of losing government funding so they continue to kiss both left and right ass cheeks?
but also interesting. From The Nation's Robert Dreyfuss (writing about Iran's recent election):
A few days before the vote, as Moussavi's "Green Wave" began to crest, there were already signs that things might get ugly. On June 9 a widely reported leak from the Interior Ministry said that Ayatollah Mohammad-Taqi Mesbah Yazdi had issued a fatwa permitting vote counters to manipulate the results in favor of the candidate who is truly a devotee of Islam. "To you, as administrators of the election, everything is permitted to this end," Mesbah Yazdi wrote.
I'm fairly certain that the Family Research Council and similar groups (along with the likes of Gingrich, Santorum, Limbaugh, etc., etc.) will take a look at this Ayatollah's approach and remember it come the next election; heck, they're probably wondering right now, "Hey, why didn't we take this tack instead of lamely declaring that Franken stole the election?" (see Conason's Salon article, which is an interesting read). But I suppose they expected the MN Supreme Court to play ball in much the same way SCOTUS did in 2000.
Nice little smear job you liar.
I never once used "isolationism" you fool. Non-interventionism is the heart and soul of voluntary cooperation --- not that nazis like you would care for anything but brute force.
Somerby, today, repeatedly uses the name "Lally Weymouth" when he's actually writing about WaPo CEO and publisher Katherine Weymouth (born 1966) (sometimes known as "Katherine The Second").
Newsweek senior editor Elizabeth "Lally" Graham Weymouth (born 1943) is the daughter of Katherine The First and the mother of Katherine The Second.
I haven't trusted NPR to be liberal or even neutral since the build-up to the invasion of Iraq when they "reported" "evidence" that Hussein was stockpiling material for the construction of nuclear weapons. There was plenty of expert testimony in other media to dispute the claims NPR supported.
There sure was hon. I was catching far more reliable reports from Common Sense FM that I listen to all the time and pick up through the fillings in my teeth.
We do not need to have the Family Research Council do what the MSM is already doing, rigging elections by censorship and hype rather than news and reporting.
When we have a third party President, then you can say we have had a free and fair election.
Only a fool would vote for a Republican or Democrat.
The MSM makes fools of us all.
Both parties make fools of only those who vote for them.
If anyone in these comments were to ever try and defend themselves from attacks of racism or sexism or homophobia by saying they have friends that are minorities, women, and gay, that person would get dogpiled with omooex the bigot chihuahua leading the way, saying how such arguments are bullshit. It has happened before.
But yet here he is claiming that he isn't as "Ageist" as you'd might, you see, because he has classes with 18 year olds, and did he mention that he is college and at a good school yet? It is almost noon, so he should have mentioned it two or three times by now.
If only David Duke had taken undergraduate courses with a lot of Blacks, Jews, and Women in them, so he could make strong arguments like the super-intelligent philosophy master aka omooex.
As Glenn and others worry, and rightfully so, over a word not used by the NPR we find that a new phase in the brutal destruction of Afghanistan is going on as we write these little ditties.
One asshat says that non-intervention is evil code for racism even as the dumb fuck cheers the death and destruction of a land full of brown folks. Could anything be more hypocritical?
Glenn, you write what you want and what you feel comfortable writing; but some of your fans would not mind you taking on the present administration and its illegal wars the way you did the last one. I know I would not be upset to see one post on that topic.
You seem to be correct about Somerby's error.
I watched the whole flap play out in real time since I love Helen Thomas and have followed her work for years. I posted a small news item about her and the little weasel then pounced. Got himself into a spot of trouble with the local cool gang, but they will let it pass.
I was trying to imagine if you had posted what he did, in fact, post. Don't get me wrong, I know that you would not post such garbage smearing a working woman who is standing up to power each day. However, I was trying to do a Glenn and put the shoe on the other foot.
Can you imagine what I think would have happened? Bhawawawa. (he laughed with evil delight)
