The suppressed fact: Deaths by U.S. torture

The unstated premise of every torture debate -- that it was safely applied to a handful of detainees -- is false

Obtaining vital information by force.

It seems ignorant to believe that vital information that will save the lives of people should be forsaken if it requires harming or killing even one humanoid.

I'm all for causing potential martyrs, jihadists, and muslim terrorists or terrorists of any kind extreme pain if it will secure information that leads to the discovery of these plots.

The flagrant use of torture by sickos is no reason to toss out this valuable tactic. By all means the bent-headed sadists must not have access to detainees. But throwing out effective force is not the answer.

I don't and won't read further articles about the babarity of torture.

Frankly

"I disagree. The only people who can do lots of harm with impunity are the politicians and the military. And that upsets me no end."

"Clearly you haven't taken a close look at the financial sector lately."

You are so right! That was a serious lapse.

But I am appalled by the way Obama is providing cover for the war crimes that have occurred, despite his campaign promises to provide transparancy. To me the crimes committed by the greedy, financial-establishment elite pale in comparison. Yet I've been personally devastated in my 401K and home price by their ineptitude, arrogance, and disregard for ethical behavior. What pains me the most is that not only are these unscrupulous meglomaniacs, who caused the economic crisis, not being punished, they are being rewarded by being paid tons of money to correct the problems that they themselves created.

There are two sets of unwritten laws in the USA. One for the rich elite and their powerful lawyers and another one for the rest of us.

Thanks for that. Because I myself am kind of tired of picking posts like yours apart and destroying every falsehood, assumption, and straw man argument you concoct to justify torture I look forward to the continuation of this letters thread. I hope you stick around for a little while - assuming everyone else isn't bored to death of it too, it should get interesting.

Somebody Must Answer

We can either get to the bottom of this now or stretch it out over 60 years as Germany has.Nelson Mandela showed us how,we need to place responsibily and humbly seek reconciliation. As Carl Schurtz said "My country when right, kept right, when wrong, put right".I love my country second only to my family.I've proudly worn its uniform and I will celebrate Independence Day in honor of my ancestors who fought for it.But my God we took a wrong turn and we need to apologize to and compensate those whom we've hurt as best we can.I was hoping that our President would lead the way.

Flip you listen to Dead Eye Dick Cheney too much

Have you not listened to the FBI, CIA and other interrogators who have stated time after time that torture does not, has not, and will not provide reliable information.

Consider that our country puts on the Holier Than Thou Raiment but stoops to the lowest reaches of human depravity. We kill for nothing and then defend it. What have we become? Our worst nightmare?
