Sorry.

I remember after graduating from college during a job interview, I was asked if I could type. I said no I was not applying for a typing job. The male interviewing me said I could work my way up through the typing job. I replied I went to college so I would not have to type and I asked him if he required the men to work their way up in advertising through typing jobs.

Of course they did not. NO make ever had to face that kind of bullshit in the 60s and 70s. Many women rebelled against. Mad Men is so right on.

@Wafflefish

I'm one of those loons who believes that, in the abscence of significant statistical evidence, the actual content of the promotion test should be examined for evidence of racial bias.

No you aren't. You're simply a liar that believed that these firefighters were discriminated against, and thus agree with the reported outcome of the case without having actually read the opinions expressed at any step in the development of this case. You are, quite simply, the worst kind of cowardly right wing tool. The only thing that is good about you is that it is so easy to bait you into making yourself look stupid. :)

@ Scientician

This is a rather bizarre objection. The ruling states that the lower court's reasoning explained all that needed to be said. Why do they need to repeat themselves?

You and others are attacking this wrong. They aren't actually objecting to anything because, by the absurd and ignorant statements they've made, it's clear that they haven't read a single decision issued in this case, including the very brief one they wish to assign solely to Sotomayor. It's quite simple for someone who has read the cases to find a legal position to object to any of the rulings. The fact that none of these tools have done so is just evidence that they are lazy and stupid.

For those who don't get it, my ending dialogue is taken from the movie script "Rocky Balboa."

Thank you, and good day!

@ berbart . . . on the "value" of a typing course . . .

the resident queen of typographical errors maligning the importance of effective keyboarding skills in a world where the written word predominates--too funny.

Nevertheless, I for one see your brilliance and intellect shining through quite brightly in spite of the problematic frequency with which you misspell, well, almost everything.

If you told me you had arthritis I'd be sympathetic, but as it stands I'd say take free typing tutorial on-line. There are literally gazillions of them. Pick one and practice and save your fellow commenters the daily task of having to decode your comments.

If you don't see the "value" in good typing skills and the "value" that generations of members of your claimed gender added to myriad male dominated business as a result of "typing" things accurately and quickly then you should have your head examined as well as your keyboarding skills.

Never thought I'd see a "woman" take a condescending tone towards other women who to this day provide the administrative backbone to almost every major business endeavor on the planet by virtue of their typing and computer skills.

@ Tigerman777

I'm sorry but I don't care about the politics of the judges who overturned another of Sotomayer's attempts to enforce her racist ideology and views.

HAHAHA! You didn't read any of the opinions either. You are just a moron. Seriously, do you think it isn't beyond obvious to anyone with even a fraction of a braincell left in their head that your real issue with her is that you are afraid she is better than you? :P It's ok. If you actually grow a spine and a bit of drive, you can undo your stupidity. But, that's up to you. Until then, thanks for the comic relief. :)

@Steele

Life has negative repercussions, life is not fair. There will always be people hired and fired for non-job-related issues. You can’t escape it.

In this we agree.

The difference we have (if I may) is whether one wants to do anything to help people who are still suffering the effects of centuries of official and unofficial racism (not in the past, but now, today), or just say "fuck it, just don't let anyone who looks like I look have to suffer."

It's a meaningful difference. And one that, apparently, a significant portion of our society has chosen, along with the majority of the Supreme Court.

I don't think you're too dumb to spell, and I don't think you're too dumb to count to four.

It's just like you don't care enough about what you write to pay any attention to it. And that kind of makes it hard for me to care.

Do you see any way to effectively ban practice tests? Or, an effective way to know that a test taker took a practice test?

Why read it that way? Why not just require that, if practice tests and study material are to bee given out, it is done for free? In the age of paper, yes, this could be costly. But, in the city of New Haven, and most other populated sections of the country, with the rural sections converting ever faster, most have access to a broadband internet connection where all of such materials could be accessed for free. Most libraries have publicly accessable internet terminals that are free of charge in areas where broadband is present. Why not take the profit motive out of it, especially when it comes to exams for jobs in public service? It's certainly a distraction from the topic at hand. But, would it be such an unrealistic requirement?

@bernbart

How is writing four when you clearly meant three a "typing" problem?

I'm just trying to make a point many others have made, not to insult you for the sake of insult. Everybody makes mistakes, sometimes really big ones. I do it all the time. But when every single comment you make is loaded with huge errors in grammar, spelling, syntax etc... it makes your stuff really hard to read.

I'm asking you to take a little more time. Maybe try using Preview.
