Binding U.S. law requires prosecutions for those who authorize torture

The new Attorney General just said that Bush officials authorized torture. A treaty signed in 1988 by Ronald Reagan compels the U.S. to prosecute those who authorize torture. What's the way out of that?

The letters thread is now closed.

The two are not mutually exclusive.

I made the point that no action would be taken, because there is no political upside for Obama, and plenty of political downside.

Then I wrote about grenades.

Are these ?????? supposed to make your comment more convincing?

@Ticking Vagina Man

The two are not mutually exclusive.

They are, actually.

Nobody who went through that merry-go-round yesterday is going to take seriously any point you have to make from here on out.

You wanted to be a provocateur, congrats, you got the job.

Sex Sex Sex and Drugs

You know we would not even be having this discussion if Bush, Cheney, or any of them, had been caught red handed with their demon claws wrapped around a crack pipe, or up someone's skirt.

Even shooter would be screaming for their heads...

"9/11 happens dead bodies everywhere Glennster, 20th hijacker in our hands, what should we LOGICALLY do with him Glenn, play canasta??? if this guy is the 20th hijacker, he is truly a sickfuck Glenn,"

Sure is a sick fuck. He's well gutted that he missed his flight. He was so looking forward to seeing New York. But then that's now mixed with relief that he didn't in fact go there. You see he's found out since you'd be hard pressed to find even one virgin in New York let alone seventy two. And you can slam jets into New York skyscrapers until you are blue in the face, but them hymens, they still will remain broken.

Life, its so hard sometimes isn't it?

Paul,

Taken seriously? How can you take this place seriously.

I state that there is no political upside — which is probably the most valid point to make for those who are interested in the real world — and it gets about 2 comments.

I talk about vagina grenades, and people prattle on about it for 15 pages.

Folks here seem to be much more interested in posturing (and about vagina grenades) than they are about what is going to happen.

From that point, about 60% of what I said was true -- including the vagina grenade part. But no torture was used. And grenades do not tick, for what it's worth.

From the horse's mouth. And then he thinks he can tell us which part we should believe.

One wonders that she didn't pull the pin before insertion.......

Oh, bravo. Your troll work is officially done.

P.S. Yes, they are mutually exclusive.

@TVM

Taken seriously? How can you take this place seriously.

Well, I don't. It's a fucking online forum, for God's sake.

That being said, I've had intelligent conversations with a number of people here, learned a great deal, and made what small contribution I can.

You're unserious. Congratulations! Everyone's got to be something. You responded to a question, though, by saying you wanted to make a serious point, which was the latest in a series of bullshit stories you've told.

Even by the admittedly low standards around here, you're not a particularly good troll, but I have faith in you. You've shown adaptability. And we get lots of newcomers here, and you can ply your trade on them.

Besides, thanks to you I learned something new about Mona. So there's that.

"You become what you resist"....

....good grief, I guess Werner Erhardt was right.

Glenn, Glenn. The "good vs.evil" mentality has been transferred to the Dems, and you exhibit that clearly. the only question you didn't answer, was the one you asked, "How are we going to get around THAT?" Think harder.

Bigger question, how are we going to get around, "Change we can believe in"? Same old same old, when it comes to the dems, still looking for blood in the water. Dems need to get out of their rut.

Not even Alan Dershowitz was able to define "torture" in 2001. He was all for it. Yes I was shocked. No I didn't know things like that went on. Yes, it's wrong. No, it doesn't help. OK, thanks for bringing it up, now let's never do it again. But get out of the trenches and stop making 47% of the country feel as if we're about to get dragged through the mud again by our own brothers and sisters. Because that's exactly how it would feel.

@Paul Daniel Ash

Amen brother.Too many in a hurry to tighten the noose and string someone up.Too many like Glen eager to captolize on that emotion.

Monday, January 19, 2009 09:39 AM

Right. Khalid Sheikh Muhammad needs a good lawyer, and Glenn is just the guy.

Does anybody remember what he actually DID?

Yes, you're right. They're mutually exclusive.

Think I'll sign off and watch the mid-day rerun of the Colbert Report. You know -- that goofy show that throws out some trolls, but at the same time strangely seems to make a point or two.

Debunking the ‘Suicide for 72 Virgins’ Myth

The 72 virgins myth is a Zionist-constructed propaganda technique to make Americans belittle and hate Muslims.

"Those Islamist sewer dwellers at Club Gitmo..."

How about we say "Those Jewish sewer dwellers fighting in Gaza?" Oh, that would be anti-Semitic! We can't say that!

As for force being the writer of history, yes, it is true, force makes things happen. But one thing history teaches us, for those who can learn, is that it is HOW force is used. Those who use force for force's sake are no better than a blind boxer throwing punches at the wind.

It's called a brain. Use it sometime.

a butcher with the handle NeoConCabal wrote ...

There is nothing that can happen that would justify torture. There is nothing that can happen that would justify torturing children as the USA has done.

There fact you swallow the government's 9/11 conspiracy theory does not justify torture. Proper police methods were called for, but the government gave in to bloodthirsty thugs such as yourself. Sad, it really is. Because they gave in to you thugs, we never got a proper investigation of the facts.

By the way, you will have a hard time selling the label "lefty" in my case: unless you mean 'classic liberal' in which case I will plead guilty.
