  • @Steele the First

You asked for a definition of "anti-Semitic." Here's your answer:

Because the Jewish thieves and liars have taken over the Jewish community, and they have pretty much taken over many of my nation's most important institutions, and until the honest and ethical Jews do something about it, that is just the way I am going to live my life. I do not trust Jewish run institutions any more. The Jewish community will have to work hard to earn my trust back. -- Steele the First

    This thread is toxic.

  • @maureen

    Seriously lady

    Lighten up!

    Too heavy a hand

    With all that messed up

    Hate Fest stuff.

    I appreciate what Durian Joe

    Had to say.

But I'll bet he would not trade places

    With me

    Or any other "sand nigga"

    Anytime

    Any which way

    At any place

    Or any given goddamn day.

    So excuse me

While I clear the smoke my eyes

And to all you true believers

May you all win your grand prize.

  • Is this better?

Because the Christian thieves and liars have taken over the Christian community, and they have pretty much taken over many of my nation's most important institutions, and until the honest and ethical Christians do something about it, that is just the way I am going to live my life. I do not trust Christian run institutions any more. The Christian community will have to work hard to earn my trust back. -- Steele the First

You gave me an example of something you see as "anti-Semitic." You did not define anti-Semitism. There is a difference.

  • In other words...

In other words, that post with the word "Christian" instead of "Jewish" would be perfectly acceptable in Salon and any other mainstream website letters thread.

So why is it so un-acceptable when discussing the Jewish religion?

  • round and round

Listen, I don't want to go beating around the bush and playing word games. The simple fact is, I challenged this letters thread to define anti-Semitism, and no one would, although that charge is thrown about freely. And that is exactly my point.

I, personally, think the term "anti-Semitic" is a propaganda word. There is no difference between bigotry against a Jew for being Jewish, a Christian for being Christian, or a Muslim being Muslim. It is simply religious bigotry, all three. Using the word "anti-Semitic" is a public relations tool used to demonize someone who may or may not be bigoted towards Jews (in my experience, more often than not, they are not).

It is perfectly acceptable in today's society to to rail against Christians, to demonize Muslims, but nobody can ever, ever say one disparaging word about Jews.

It not bigoted to disagree with certain tenets of Judaism. It is not bigoted to disagree with specific manifestations of Jewish culture. It is not bigoted to generalize Jews as a culture.

Given that this is supposedly a free and open society, and we have the freedom to discuss the pros and cons of Christianity and the pros and cons of Islam, so, too, should we have the freedom to discuss the pros and cons of Judaism.

People are wondering why or how Israelis can do such horrible things to the Palestinians. It is their religion that allows them to do this. We cannot discuss it, we are not allowed to discuss it, so we just sit back and watch it happen, and get upset, and wish it would stop. Nobody is looking at the root causes of this behaviour.

Everytime a specific group of people has been held above all others, beyond reproach, they corrupt. It happened in Europe with the Catholic Church, it happened in China with the Communist Party, it happened in Germany in WWII. Since WWII, the Western world has been held hostage to the fear of criticizing Jews or Jewish culture. And because of this, just like in every other historical case, cynical and bad people took advantage of it. I see Jewish racism everyday in my newspapers, on my television, and on the airwaves. And I am sick of it. And the world is blind to it (well, the Western world) because of that fear.

It is not bigoted to criticize or disagree with aspects of the Jewish religion, culture, or manifestations thereof. Just like any other religion!

Israel is a corrupt, racist, violent manifestation of Judaism. And America supports it. And I want that to stop. And so do you, when you open your eyes.

  • DUH: It's About the Money!!!!

    Hello Out There-

Why has nobody mentioned that Tom Friedman is a billionaire??? (YES--a billionaire--thanks to his wife's family's ownership of Saks Fifth Avenue and his own huge booksales.) This man has NO CLUE what it is like to live an average life, with not alot of money and privilege--forget living in a third world country with almost nothing!!!!!

He writes and speaks like the spoiled, entitled, narcissistic brat that he is! But it is not a mystery why he is who he is. We know that money and greed corrupt! And lots of money and lots of greed have the potential to corrupt even more! Tom Friedman (aka Tommy Friedman) is (unfortunately) a completely corrupted man!

  • Hamas' elections

Then, and this is the part you repeatedly ignore, elections were held (forced?) and Hamas won.

    ....

Hamas ran on an explicit platform of war and death to Israel. Based on this platform, they won (fairly) seats in the Palestinian National Assembly, and then took control of Gaza in a bloody coup, shooting everything Fatah in sight. They are not the democratically elected government of Gaza, they are the bloody rulers, and they continue to shoot whomever they suspect of being Fatah or sympathizing with Fatah, or suggesting that peace might be a better way to go. But that seems to be what the people want, so hey, all democratic power to them.

US, Israel Work Together to Prevent UN From Criticizing Attack on HQ

Israeli Envoy Brags of "Thwarting An Attempt to Act Against Us"

    Posted January 15, 2009

An attempt by the British government and other members of the United Nations Security Council to condemn Israel’s attack on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency headquarters in the Gaza Strip was foiled today, after Israel found out about the attempt and demanded United States ambassadors prevent it.

According to Israel’s Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Carmon “this is the first time we have succeeded in thwarting an attempt to act against us thanks to reliable firsthand information received from the Foreign Ministry and the IDF.”

European Union ambassadors called the meeting following the attacks, but the Israeli diplomats alerted the United States to it and the later prevented the council from achieving a resolution. Instead, Security Council President Jean-Maurice Ripert made a speech calling for both sides to stop fighting.

The attack on the compound destroyed several tons of food and fuel aid intended for Gaza’s civilian population and injured three aid workers. The United States has stymied several attempts by the United Nations Security Council to bring an end to the fighting in the Gaza Strip. Perceived Israeli influence over US policies was brought to the fore this week when Prime Minister Ehud Olmert claimed to have ordered President Bush to abstain from voting on a Friday vote on a Gaza ceasefire.
