Tom Friedman offers a perfect definition of "terrorism"

The New York Times war cheerleader urges that Hamas be "educated" by "inflicting heavy pain on the Gaza population".

One fundamental asymmetry?

Circulating on the web, but it catches the attention:

'If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more violence.

If the Jews put down their weapons today, there would be no more Israel.'

"If" is the middle word in life...

And there are no "ifs"

As to whether Gaza is burning

With war

Violence

And strife..

According to the NYT which has brought a type of feigned artlessness to a fine art.

Barak's "war to the bitter end" will certainly reap enduring bitterness but no end. Already Fatah are feeling the brunt of it in the West Bank, as Abbas and the Palestinian Authority are beginning to look more and more like quislings when over 1000 Palestinians in the Gaza Ghetto have been killed, countless numbers injured and mutilated at the hands of Israel/America and the collusion of Egypt. Any deal cobbled together by this triad is going to be soaked in the blood of "the terrorised, traumatised, trapped" captives of Gaza.

The latest "spin" on the attack on the UN building which had oil-tanks nearby is that Hamas gunmen were in the area. Well, I suppose they would be "in the area" where people are living cheek-by-jowl on a narrow strip of land conceded to the 1.5 million (less the 1035 killed in 20 days) by the Israeli overlords. The vampires in Israel have been apt learners of the Bush Doctrine, of the fascist stratagems of Mittel-Europe in the 30s and early 40s and now it seems that they're seeking to seeking to outdo them. The old trick of "divide and conquer" associated with British colonialism may not be so effective in modern times as the people of the West Bank are fully aware of the iniqities being carried out on their fellow-Palestinians in Gaza. Abbas should remember "Uneasy is the head that wears the crown", particularly the tarnished one offered by ISUSA, that diabolical beast. In Egypt Isis has also been replaced by ISUSA but usurpers generally come to a sticky end or have to flee, with enough boodle in Swiss banks, to end their days in some luxurious enclave, as the American-backed Shah of Persia did.

Maureenodonnell, what are you up to?

"...the modern Israeli army has no regard for God, man or international law."

No regard for God? Wow, they sound like demons. Pure evil. Maybe they have horns under those helmets.

Here's the sad facts of life, MoDo: every powerful military throughout world history has used the most monstrous weapons it possessed against its weaker enemies, with little or no regard for the civilians who got in the way. War crimes are part and parcel of every war. That's why war is the real evil.

Show me a war where civilians weren't massacred in droves by the latest lethal technology; do that, or back off from where you seem to be going here.

@maureen

Hell, I think the Israelis see Hamas gunmen everywhere!

They might even be hidin' out

In Big Joe's underwear!

Thursday, January 15, 2009 06:11 AM

@Durian Joe, first of all get my actual name right; it's not Mo Davodivitch or anything like that

Yes, I suppose your God is a God of vengeance and you probably worship that particular version of God as you've heard voices in your head telling you that you're the "Chosen People" and can do whatever you like to persuade others of your unique magnificence.

The Vikings (the Berserkers) wore horns outside their helmets so that nobody was in doubt of what they represented. Eventually those people settled down and became civilised. Israel is only 60 years old and it might take much longer for it to reach civilised values but I'm sure you could help. As a Zionist American, you're not treated as a second-class citizen and you could suggest to Israel that it might be nice if Israel's Palestinians were also treated with such consideration. You should be writing to "The Jerusalem Post" really where you'd find many letter-writers of your very own type with American addresses.

Madonna is a member of some Kabbala or other. Ordinarily, she doesn't interest me but I think it has something to do with your faith. It was very touching when she went to Africa, in the full blare of publicity, to adopt a child in very much disputed circumstances. Surely, her maternal heart must have been moved by the sight of Palestinian children in the Gaza Ghetto running for their lives or being stretchered with appalling injuries to one of the few adequate hospitals in the place. Any word from Madonna yet or any other celeb. airhead who's always willing to come out of the building when it's safe to do so? There are some people still interested in the "Material Girl" and she should speak her mind, as she's been so fond of doing over the years.

@ Klytus. Hamas gunmen in Durian Joes's underwear? Oh, perish the thought! I hope it's

roomy enough and that they haven't got his interestin bits all trussed up. How would I know one if I stumbled across one? I suppose he'd have a fierce bristling beard, a dagger between his teeth, and wouldn't have blue eyes like so many of those European settlers who turned up in the Middle East when the Brtish and previously the Turks decided it was more trouble than it was worth.

@omooex

Shukran and likewise. We need to stick together. I'm not even back from the UAE a week. I miss my al-jazeera. Klytus is a comrade as well, I believe.

War

War is not kid stuff. Hamas did it best to provoke the Israel to go to war. Their rocket attacks on Israel were the equivalent of a kid pulling th easr of a pit bull. Now they are getting their arms chewed off.

Thursday, January 15, 2009 06:38 AM

Arne

who wrote a few pages back: 'Including King George "Rutherford B. Hayes" the Second. And how's that worked out?'

IMO, you're slandering President Rutherford B. Hayes by mentioning him in the same sentence with Pres. Batshit McBananas.

Thursday, January 15, 2009 06:58 AM

And so it ends

And there is the case that Israel is morally wrong, and the Palestinians are victims of some heinous action. Im sure that I'm not going to find a quote along the lines that you and Glenn think Hamas should go kill Jews, rather you've defined the reason why it should happen. Victimhood and blamelessness in attacking Israeli civilians.

Not with a bark, but with a whimper.

Down, Scoot! I've got no treats in my pockets!
