Somewhere I get the feeling there is an irony in this, gist for a novel. This beast that was unleashed, arrogantly applied, arrogantly hidden and now arrogantly revealed, as if it were controlled and even controllable, arrives to sweep across our landscape like a Tsunami and take down the arrogant. But to what extent? Who's left standing? If it were to come, this could go deep.
PEBO would look awful vetoing one.
He'd veto one in a New Yawk minute and then announce that "his" Justice Department is already on the case and the UN has no jurisdiction.
I've got a baaaaaaaaaaaaad feeling on this one. Too many top Democrats are up to this in their ears. I don't like it but I've pretty much resigned myself to having this all die off and in 4 years people won't even remember it.
Sucks.
from the nyt today:
A resident of southwest Gaza City on Monday showed a reporter a piece of metal casing with the identifying number M825A1, which Marc Garlasco, a military analyst with Human Rights Watch, identified as white phosphorus, typically used for signaling, smoke screens and destroying enemy equipment.
In recent years, experts and rights advocates have argued over whether its use to intentionally harm people violates international conventions.
Major Dallal would not say whether Israel was using white phosphorus, but said, “The munitions we use are consistent with international law.”
Still, white phosphorus can cause injury, and a growing number of Gazans report being hurt by it, including in Beit Lahiya, Khan Yunis, and in eastern and southwestern Gaza City. When exposed to air, it ignites, experts say, and if packed into an artillery shell, it can rain down flaming chemicals that cling to anything they touch.
Luay Suboh, 10, from Beit Lahiya, lost his eyesight and some skin on his face Saturday when, his mother said, a fiery substance clung to him as he darted home from a shelter where his family was staying to pick up clothes.
The substance smelled like burned trash, said Ms. Jaawanah, the mother who fled her home in Zeitoun, who had experienced it too. She had no affection for Hamas, but her sufferings were changing that. “Do you think I’m against them firing rockets now?” she asked, referring to Hamas. “No. I was against it before. Not anymore.”
Note that last part. This entirely thing was not only immoral and human, it was just plain stupid on the part of Israel
Maybe. But if the Dems are up to their eyeballs on this, they will soon either do what the Convening Authority just did, or be listening to a steady drip drip drip, as one after another all the people who knew and documented, like the military lawyers, come forward to say what they know.
karr(sic) in the classic Greek tragedy, it's the heroic figure that falls to hubris. It would be a very strange novel if an entire ruling class did so. Sort of a Holocaust of the Vanities.
Maybe the subtitle is we shouldn't have to wait to find out who will burn in hell 'til the smoking gun becomes a mushroom cloud?
Israel-Torture-Israel-Torture
It actually goes Israel-white phosphorus-Israel-DIME etc. etc.
Torture is so 20th century...
Outcry and pressure hasn't worked on the Obama abomination of selecting right wing extremist evangelical preacher Rick Warren to be the principal religious leader at the inauguration. That tactic doesn't work much, especially when it comes from Obama's most ardent and loyal supporters. He figures they are expendable, where else can they go? Well, this liberal can and will go elsewhere; Obama will never get my vote again. Obama, a one term President, I hope.
Poo is even better than shoes.
I wonder which would carry the greater legal penalty?
"Did you hear Obama had an intimate sit-down dinner with progressive/liberal journalists, pundits & bloggers Tuesday night? Yeah-- Glenn was there, and Rachel, and Keith.....Oops, make that George (Will), David (Brooks) and Bill (Kristol). Eight years of Bush/Cheney weren't enough. Now their head cheerleaders get a seat at the table with the Democratic President-elect"
As utterly bewildering as it is vomit inducing. Have you tried that combination? It's as weird as what induces it.
But,then again, what was Kristol doing on the Daily Show? And just as importantly, - who exactly was laughing along and applauding him?
Since the day a real reporter stood up to ask the then President about his female traveling companion and was fired , investigative reporting by the MSM ended . An example is as each Democrate takes over a leadership position the MSM begins the questions about "impeachment" . The MSM knew crimes were committed during the reign of terror under the GOP leadership but under reported it or didn't report it . But now as the DEM's take over the questions begin . The MSM knowing what , and when crimes were committed and by who should have been detailing the crimes to the public as is their job . Instead they want the DEM leadership to start the fight so they can stand on the side and watch the fight or accuse the DEMs of not fighting .
Sure, Obama said he'd order it closed on his first day, but he did not say by what day he expected that order to be carried out. (Someone may have already pointed this out, I don't have time to read all the comments today. Sorry if this is repetitive.) And I have figured out that with Obama, the words can be slippery. When the Guan. Bay facility remains open indefinitely and people begin to question it, Obama will simply say, "I never gave an exact time frame, these things take time"...blah, blah, blah. I'm personally wondering about all the group-hug thing over the bailout (we only have one prez at a time, but now both the incoming and the outgoing are working together to pressure Congress to give away the balance of the "TARP" funds? I'll be kiss-my-ass.)
O'Malley? Someone bought him shortly after we elected him. He repeatedly stated he thought the Real I.D. Act (an act passed in 2005 requiring states to comply with what is basically national ID) was unconstitutional and said that Md. would not comply; then in '08 he declared we would go along with it for "national security reasons". Like it makes sense for the people who work at the local MVAs for minimum wage to be the ones verifying passports, work visas, etc. and the parts of the act he found to be problematic legally had just vanished into thin air. While our electric companies were deregulated before his tenure, last year he allowed "decoupling" - a strange word which basically means that if people are conserving energy, the electric company can make up for the loss of revenue by estimating how much they used to consume and charge it to the customers as "transportation fees". Our electric companies are phasing in a 100% increase over a three-year period. That's how that works. And we thought we elected a Democrat, not a big-business Republican. Ah, well. There are no Democrats any longer, except Dennis Kucinich.
Some group somewhere wants war with Iran, either because they think it will stimulate the economy or because they think the US has rights to the whole world, or some such shit, and they would like Israel to start it. Then we can jump in to protect our little buddy, Israel, and together we'll split the spoils. At least, that's how they think it will work. It may just end us as a nation in the same way Rome's imperial quest decimated that empire.
I hear Bush is claiming he stopped Israel from bombing Iran recently. Since we now live in the time of Alice (in Wonderland), what this actually means is that he told them to just hold off until he was out of office and then go to it; in return, he'd give them Gaza.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
