"That's all really cool and shit but don't you think it just sounds stupid in a thread that happens to be about writing articulately on the internet about something the PE said on TV, and having millions reply in various ways in disagreement with Obama's TV appearance, and then having gotten results for having done so?"

Not if you follow and comprehend the trail of posts between us (you and me), no.
I, too, miss him, but it's Glenn's blog. Pedinska, please pass on my salutations and best wishes to Senor James for me.
"and Glenn must do what he has to to keep the comment section viable"
Lets remember that it is Salon, who has failed to deliver the tools to allow him to do precisely that; even though they have been online since 1995.
Meanwhile, bebop-o gets banned for poor conduct and the rest of us suffer miserably for the loss. If moderational tools had been available, its possible some of this unfortunate affair could have been controlled.
I've been an avid supporter of Salon since its inception, and a premium subscriber since 2001. But they will not get another cent from me until they pay attention and fix this problem.
Short timers, like kathriven, really don't have a grasp on the wealth of knowledge that our inestimable friend bestowed on us before he had his falling out with Glenn. Thank you for standing up for him.
Agree with this. And with that will now shush.
I have been a lurker and infrequent poster here for a while. I have had the pleasure and frustration of attempting to understand GC!/Bebop and his posts.
I remember being incredibly proud when I finally deciphered one and felt that I understood.
I understand that this is Glenn's blog, and he has to do what he thinks is best.
I miss GC!/Bebop/Art. Pedinska, please send him my best wishes. :)
probably know which high-fashion brand Condoleeza Rice wears as she's tripped daintily around the world.
To the Bonjour Tristesse people: I suppose Sartre didn't write that but I'm sick of sourpuss Sartre. Didn't you know that Simone du Beauvoir made a monkey out of him. On the matter of sour pusses, the third in line to the British throne, that natural yokel Prince Harry is in trouble again for addressing one of his polo-playing pals as Sooty. The only time I've ever heard that name being used was of a black cat, traditionally a creature of good luck. Work it all out for yourselves but NYU student might be interested in such low-brow chatter.
The list of offenses for which the Bush Administration ought to be investigated by the House Judiciary Committee, as provided by Dirigo, is pretty good as far as it goes, but I would look back to Watergate, and the way the votes eventually fell then, to argue for augmenting it. Not all of the proposed articles of impeachment against Nixon passed, not because they weren't equally heinous, but because there were so many. As a result, dropping funds impoundment, Cambodia, etc., still left even the most bamboozled Republican members forced to accept the fact that a half dozen or so of the things Nixon had done were really beyond rationalization, and vote accordingly, albeit reluctantly. History gave us "Don't confuse me with the facts," from the era's most famous dead-ender, an argument that didn't really work then, and might not even work now.
For this reason, I think that Hatch Act violations, signing statements, repeated defiance of subpoenas and other court orders, and the absurdly obvious and abundant instances of financial corruption should be formally investigated as well, if only to give the Republicans a longer list of jaw-dropping outrages for which to publicly advocate, if they want to.

As of today, they've enabled the functions I've been requesting.
It’s interesting being a Jew and watching screaming protesters surround the Israeli consulate in San Francisco as my brave Jewish brothers and sisters fight the radical Islamists of Hamas to defend our people and land from constant bombardment. One of my favorite political websites, one with which I’ve had a long history as a diarist and commenter, has devolved into an orgy of anti-Israel hysteria including excitement over the deaths of Israeli soldiers.
What I feel is a closer desire to Israel and to the Jewish people during this time that the world, apart from the United States, turns its back on the Jewish state while winking at Hamas’s crimes - as the world has done for the past 3 years. It’s times like these that we must turn inward, we must circle the wagons and rely on the inner strength and power the Jewish people have gained over thousands of years of betrayal and persecution by goyim non-Jews. In this hour we stand together as one.
Barf.
I pointed out how difficult it is stand up against the most heinous threats, and you pointed out that our founding fathers did stand up to such.
I applauded such and agreed, but I also merely pointed out that some of our founding fathers owned slaves. Yes, it was slightly off-topic, but it spoke to their moral consistency, which is important in rebelling against evil. I knew it was somewhat off-topic, which is why I wrote, "Just sayin'."
Furthermore, that wasn't my only point. I also pointed out that you and others here talk tough, but that some here (not righties, btw, and not you, I don't recall exactly) wrote that they wouldn't even throw their shoes at our oppressors.
None of this is "inane" (it's only slightly off-topic, but obviously connected somewhat, too) because it's all about the courage to rebel.
And instead of seeing that I'm on your side, you had to nit-pick about my being "inane" (which was at worst only somewhat off-topic), and in a quite mean-spirited manner, to boot.
Peace!
