Obama v. the National Intelligence Estimate on Iran

Last year, the NIE famously concluded with "high confidence" that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003. Why did Obama say yesterday that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons?

    @Kitt

    Yeah, that excuse/explanation is going to be hard to top. Pretty early in the thread for that to happen.

    Settle down, dude. I wrote that this *is the only explanation I could think of*.

    Either Obama is just another cowardly Democrat or he is playing a different game. Hell, the guy's been in the Senate long enough to know the Reid and Pelosi don't have his back if he goes all lefty on them. He also knows the Village is just waiting with knives sharpened for any evidence that he's going to repudiate their construct of "America is a center-right country".

    Look at what Obama has accomplished in the past year. He's not even in office yet. Cut him some freakin' slack, huh? Hell, Democrats are so programmed for disapointment and defeat that we can't even consider that the man shares most of our values and also knows that it will take considerable time and skill to implement these changes.

    As for me, I gave up on the Democratic Party last year and registered as a Green, but I still have one small glimmer of hope that Obama can change the party and the country given time. If he turns out to be just another clever power hungry politician, we're sunk.
