A couple of things.
Blue on blue refers to "friendly fire" casualties. Thus far, reports indicate that Israel has suffered more casualties (KIA) from their own fire than they have from Palestinian fire. This statistic belies Israel's claim that they are only utilizing precision techniques in an effort to strike only cambatants as do reports that they have struck UN "safe zones", the exact coordinates of which having been given to them prior to the attacks. Both examples seem to bolster the idea that Israel is itself, utilizing the tactics of terror in its war on Palestinians.
Secondly, I have known Glenn Greenwald since long before he started the Blog "Unclaimed Territory" or writing books. I can assure you that Glenn Greenwald is most assuredly NOT writing what he writes to sell more books, although that may be a legitimate by-product of his efforts as more and more people are exposed to the non-conventional wisdom often found on these pages (and I don't limit this to just the articles themselves). The style, tone, and substance of his works have not changed a single bit in the 15 or so years that I've known him and sparred with him on some issues. Greenwald writes what he believes, nothing more and nothing less.
Duh.
I have my doubts as to the effectiveness of sarcasm in his [Glenn's] writing...
We harbour no similar doubts as to the effectiveness of your writing, whether sarcastic, contrite, or otherwise, nor as to the substantive content therein. You might ask yourself why.... The answer to the first, I'd venture to say, has much to do with the answer to the second. Is that cleare enough for you?
Cheers,
"and this is the crux of my theme lately, that there is not much point in writing articles and having a forum like this if it is only to preach to the converted."
For me, a "converted one," there are not many places to go. Also, the topics that Glenn puts forth consistently, day in and day out, are to-the-point, salient, current, and what I like the most, they are confrontational. The themes they address are on issues that just are not discussed in the MSM and should be. They make people like Ruth Marcus and David Broder, and Goldfarb and Klein and so many others respond. Just a short time ago it seemed to me that Glenn was "spitting into the wind," because he would take on a noted journalist and be ignored. That doesn't happen very much anymore.
Also, I get the feeling that many journalists are becoming aware that they are going to be taken to task by him and his influence is growing. After he writes his article, I anticipate the updates which includes his evaluation of the response.
All in all, it is a very worthwhile blog to read.
There are also some very sage commentators here. I loved yesterday's wording change from capability to culpability, in a quote by one of our "esteemed" senators, and which was appropriately noted in Glenn's updates.
Glenn Greenwald, Rachel Maddow and Frank Rich help me, I think, to retain any sanity I might possess.
You see, I can't understand why Glenn needs to use this kind of childishness in his writing. It's just dumb and rude.-- tommy1733
You can smugly call Glenn "dumb and rude" and "childish" and feel all righteous about it, but he is 'dumb and rude and childish' if he tells Shooter to basically go take a hike? After reading the thousandth BS comment from Shooter? After someone spits on your shoe a couple of hundred times you get fed up with it. Politeness is afforded to those who deserve it. A dressing down is afforded to those who scream for it over and over again.
"Why be so discourteous to someone who is obnoxious enough to try and derail a conversation with insults, misrepresentation, and posturing?"
Fixed that for you.
The reason commenters laugh at Shooter and are snide to him is because he has always been the same way to them. His posts are practically fact-free (and really argument-free); his only purpose is to come in here and laugh at the libtards, not attempt to engage in a serious discussion. For example, if I were to seriously ask Shooter why he compared "killing twenty Jews by rocket" to "[killing] twenty Arabs by interrogation," when the Israeli incursion into Gaza has killed far more than 20 Arabs (and I suspect more than 20 have been killed in our illegal interrogations, if you add them all up), he would not give a serious answer. (Most likely, he would not answer at all.) He is not here to have a discussion. He is here to disrupt.
He is a troll.
:-)
According to the NYT article ondelette linked to earlier
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/09/world/middleeast/09mideast.html?pagewanted=print
on Thursday Gazan authorities reported 758 people dead, including 257 children and 56 women. Israel says it has killed at least 130 Hamas fighters. That’s some precision! Nearly twice as many children as Hamas fighters.
Israel has agreed to allow a three hour “lull” or “humanitarian pause” every other day…so that Gazans can seek medical help and buy supplies.
How ludicrous is that? I just can’t think of anything to say.

alter my style so as to avoid offending people?
No, that is not it. What is damn amusing about you is that you are complaining about Glenn's style using a style that is really obnoxious, and only you can figure out why.
Interactions here are different from normal space. For example, have you noticed what happens when I ask shooter a "serious" question? (Hint: he goes away for a while, and then I do not have scan through so many replies.)
Apparently, Chuck Manson was correct, after all. Psychotic, but correct.
and this is the crux of my theme lately, that there is not much point in writing articles and having a forum like this if it is only to preach to the converted.
There are objective metrics which measure how widely cited and discussed someone's writings are. You ought to review those and, that way, you won't have to speculate about whether what someone writes is disseminated only to a forum of "the converted."
I should also note that it hurts my feelings when you say these mean things about what I'm writing and, through the pain, I find myself wondering why you have to invoke such a mean-spirited and attacking tone, even after your apology, which I graciously accept.
