I see what you mean [chuckle] but then are you suggesting I alter my style so as to avoid offending people? A-ha - this is what I have so self-righteously been proclaiming all along! And thus my argument knocks you down! (ha ha)

Brilliant.
You know the movie Beautiful Mind? It's about an intelligence that you'll never know.

it seems absurd that you can not recognize that he is sincere and that he works long hours in order to research and understand what it is he wants to write about, and then to write about it
- and so I have stated earlier. I have my doubts as to the effectiveness of sarcasm in his writing and in fact resorted to that myself, then back-pedaled and was contrite, and then someone forgave me...
I admire Greenwald for his research and I really enjoy learning new things and new information that otherwise might never see the internets. But I also have taken him to task for sarcasm when I feel it obscures the point and weakens the argument. And of course sometimes I just disagree with him.
I will defend anyone who gets trashed by Glenn - which has happened at least twice in the past week or two - this seems unprofessional, uncalled for. Why be so discourteous to someone who is curious enough to join in a conversation and possibly provide another point of view?
n'est-ce pas?
German children will be forced to see concentration camp sites
From The Times, January 8, 2009 (see sig)
German children will be obliged to visit the site of a Nazi concentration camp as part of their regular school curriculum. The move — to be introduced in Bavaria and likely to become the norm throughout the country — is in response to the almost fatal stabbing of a senior police officer by a neo-Nazi.
"We have to take a stand against this far-right octopus, this tentacled monster," said Host Seehofer, the prime minister of Bavaria, who has ordered every ministry to come up with proposals to stamp out neo-Nazi influence in southern Germany. They will feed into a comprehensive action plan to be unveiled next week.
"The first thing we have to do is set up a website that will give a point of contact to everyone who has problems with far-right extremists," Joachim Herrmann, the Bavarian interior minster, said. "Our aim must be to bring up kids so that they can resist any attempt by the far-Right to lead them astray."
In the Bavarian case this will mean a compulsory visit to a concentration camp — usually Dachau, outside Munich — or former offshoots of camps where slave labourers were forced to work for the German war effort. History lessons will also include excursions to centres that document Nazi crimes such as the one that has been set up near Hitler's Alpine refuge on the Obersalzberg.
The German educational system is organised on federal lines and some regions already take high school students to former camps. The Holocaust is taught in every senior school during history lessons and in civic studies. Some religion teachers also draw on the moral choices faced or neglected during the Third Reich. The curriculum of North Rhine Westphalia — where camp excursions are already common practice — stipulates that teachers must emphasise the Holocaust from the perspective of the victim.

If you insist on defending pathological liars such as Shooter you're wasting your time. Or you would be if you weren't just entertaining yourself by pretending that a pathological liar adds anything to the conversation. One should, as they say, choose their battles. You won't be taken seriously if you're going rest your reputation on being all high and mighty about 'defending anyone who gets "trashed" by Glenn', no matter how idiotic or dishonest that person was or is.
Maybe I was rash, but think about it. A significant portion of Iraqis wanted us to invade and throw out Saddam. Our aerial attacks were far less careless in “collateral damage.” We didn’t have a confined, starving population where we used woman and children and the Red Cross for shooting practice. True the end result was far more devasting in Iraq and the Middle East. For true senseless savagery, the Israelis top the Busheviks. Maybe I hate them equally and my congress for supporting them.
I see your point, and I agree wholeheartedly with your last sentence. The difference to me may be in the long-term review of both countries. For me, what Bush and tribe have done in Iraq is an anathema to what the United States stands for and what, for the most part, our history shows. The war on Iraq (yes, on) was based on a ruse so complex and convincing that those of us who saw through it were silenced by the deafening support that ruse received. And the espoused reasons for attacking Iraq had nothing whatsoever to do with Iraq presenting a threat to us.
Israel's latest invasion of Gaza is predictable. That kind of revenge defense policy is what Israel has always done. It's not based on a lie to Israeli citizens, and it really doesn't seem any more inhumane than we've come to expect from the IDF. While it is reprehensible and indefensible, it's not anathema to Israel or Israeli foreign policy. I suppose that is why I find the current invasion of Gaza not on par with our invasion of Iraq.
And now, I must but on my kevlar vest and seek shelter.
I will need some more evidence before I am convinced that shooter is a liar. Glenn had this to say recently about shooter:
So amazing. For Shooter, every political argument really does come down to the fact that he lays in bed at night, in the dark, really really scared. And he just wants someone to do something to make him feel safe. It's the politics of the 6-year-old with a nightmare.--
You see, I can't understand why Glenn needs to use this kind of childishness in his writing. It's just dumb and rude.
I have read a small sampling of shooter's stuff and while he seems more conservative, even right-wing, than many people here, what is so bad about that? Can't say I disagree with everything he has said. And I know I am not a liar because I just checked.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
