Perle Washes His Hands Of Iraq: I Was Not An ‘Architect Of That War,’ Neocons Had No Influence

Man, it'll take more Clorox than the bleach industry is capable of manufacturing...
The Bush Doctrine is based on the principle of prosecution for future crimes.
For example, although "prosecution" is not the applicable term, the Iraqis have certainly been "persecuted" for future crimes (although their, ah, "guilt" is by association only):
Diane Sawyer:
But stated as a hard fact, that there were weapons of mass destruction as opposed to the possibility that he could move to acquire those weapons still.
George W. Bush:
So what's the difference?
Diane Sawyer:
Well...
George W. Bush:
The possibility that he could acquire weapons. If he were to acquire weapons, he would be the danger. That's, that's what I'm trying to explain to you. A gathering threat, after 9/11, is a threat that needed to be dealt with.
-----------
Persecution, even execution, for future crimes is easy. One only has to disregard the concept of justice.
Just to pile on--
Israel is attacking Hamas under the very explicitly stated logic that Hamas must be punished for past and present actions, in order to prevent bad future actions. Israel is making a direct logical and functional linkage between past and future.
99.9 percent of the US government sees that argument and agrees with it.
But the same logic seems invisible to the US government when applied to crimes of torture and murder by the powerful.
Hey, idiot!
No deaths of innocents is OK with me. However, just war theory demands a proportional response. The Israeli destruction of Gaza is not proportional to 20 dead over ten years.
Now is it?
Glenn,
Your readers should be made aware of Monday's San Francisco Chronicle editorial.
It wouldn't hurt to urge people to fax it to their Senators and Representatives.

GlennGreenwaldAre you capable of opening your mouth and making an argument without blatantly lying?
Objection - counsel is badgering the witness again.
-- tommy1733
Objection overruled. The witness will answer the question.
(Okay, Shooter probably won't answer, but I always wanted to say that.)
So killing twenty Jews by rocket is OK, but not twenty Arabs by interrogation? All this moral posturing by the left is just too much to keep track of. Gee, I sure am glad you all are here to tell me this killing is more egregious than that killing. Tsk.
-- shooter242
No one here has suggested that the deaths of Israeli civilians is fine and dandy, Shooter. To the contrary. Most of us have repeatedly condemned Hamas' attacks on civilians. We also condemn the slaughter of innocent Palestinians, condemnations which you seem rather hesitant to agree with.
It's known that Israel utilizes torture and, in fact, torture is codified as legal in certain circumstances by Israeli law. It would seem, therefore, that even though Israel uses torture, it doesn't seem to be working very well for them. If it had, the rocket attacks would have been stopped, wouldn't they? Isn't that what you're claiming when you boast that "because Bush uses torture (and other illegal acts), there haven't been any terrorist attacks on the US". (paraphrasing)
Why do you believe the US should use torture to interrogate prisoners when its been demonstrated that torture, even if it were legal, doesn't work?
Is that all you've got? The "If you don't support Us you support Them" garbage? Israel has been attacking ambulances and paramedics. Why don't you support hospitals shooter?
How does it feel putting the security of a country thousands of miles away over your own? The reason the establishment pisses on America, and people like Shooter cheer them on, is because they hate America, or at least what is based on. All they understand is force and they hate things like Constitutions because, if taken seriously, Constitutions can limit and/or expose that force. Warmongers have contempt for the Constitution and uphold the agenda of Bilderbergers, no chains, pure power, and upholding the ability to do whatever you want and set agendas in secret without consequences. Shooter might even be a gun owner, but the people he plays cheerleader for people that hate the second amendment because guns are tangible and not so easily undermined as laws and ideas.
But just wait, starting in a few months Shooter will be in here whining about how the other team is misusing and abusing his precious force.
Can you understand that I might feel more responsible for my country torturing people to death, than for some other folks launching rockets into Israel?
Now for the tough one. If you can understand the previous paragraph, does it make sense that when the US gives military aid to Israel, I have a similar feeling concerning how this aid is used?
Can you explain why you do not feel as I do, in your own words based on your own thoughts without invoking any of the usual phrases?
Of course not. At least not deliberately. It's possible it was an accident, but I doubt it. Let me check. There's no deletions for being O/T.
Surely Liberal Uber Alles' (I mean Electro's) post at 10:23 merits deletion in spite of it being O/T.
Anyway, you and I are not on speaking terms, since I wasn't even nominated for best contributor. Liberal censorship, you know.-- Baldie McEagle
How do you know you were not nominated?
The only persons named at the Wog were those who won (sysprog) and those who were close to winning. If your name was not listed, it's not because you weren't nominated.
BTW, you don't sound Jewish.
Chris, I agree this is another in Electro's incarnations. Note the snarky name, classic Electro. That's one of the reason's I thought 'Wallaby' couldn't be him.
Another was the writing style.
Tommy - You really hurt my feelings with your criticisms of me. I felt like your tone was somewhat mean-spirited and cutting. I really think you owe me an apology for your uncivil and alienating approach. How are we supposed to discuss political issues productively if we don't feel safe from these sorts of attacks?
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
