Both parties cheerlead still more loudly for Israel's war

As the body count in Gaza piles up, the U.S. Congress acts overwhelmingly to insinuate itself into the war with blind support for Israel.

But countries all over the world exist with that threat.

No they do not, if a country shoots rockets at it's neighbor it will be attacked, and unless Hamas is stopped the rockets they are getting WILL pose such a threat.

by supporting Hamas unconditionally the rest of the world is making the same mistake the US made when it supported (by not forcing the Israeli govt to stop it as a condition of aid) settler land stealing

i.e. allowing one side to believe that it can win everything in the end if it is willing to live with the fighting long enough.

Of course I am. If I new any. Not sure many of them have Internet access at the moment. But also, they're not taking any of my taxes...

Good news

The number of rockets being launched at Israel per day is dropping fast.

if a country shoots rockets at it's neighbor it will be attacked

does not counter the statement "countries all over the world exist with that threat"

No matter how you spin it, "WILL pose such a threat" does not excuse the illegality of either the present attack nor the continuing war crime of blockading Gaza, which, by the way, isn't a "country" but rather occupied territory!

You ask me to do what I can, but until now you haven't done a thing? And how about the Hamas supporters on this message board? You could urge them to accept the end of shooting rockets.

what happens when everyone, all the arabs, Israel and Abbas all agree on the deal that Israel stop and Hamas stop the rockets and only Hamas refuses to agree

will anything change politically.

Here's thestatement -- rather than your selective parsing:

"As far as the body count goes, who cares? 100:1, 1000:1, 10,000:1 it doesn't matter. The Palestinians started this round with their incessant bombing of Israel".

The point was the idea of proportionality is ludicrous. When someone is threatening your very existence in both words and deeds you don't survive by counting bodies -- you survive by winning.

In other words, defeat is not an option for Israel, it's annihilation. So all the talk regarding proportionality is nothing but a smoke screen and obfuscation. As is talk about the suffering of those living in Gaza when no such talk was forthcoming for Israeli civilians being shelled by Hamas; which is the impetus for this war.

Good news? Good news? Can you hear yourself? I'm beginning to get heartily sick of the precious blinkered self regard you lot a filled with. I think you are an utter disgrace. With so many Palestinians being destroyed, driven mad with fear and their streets and hospitals flowing with blood, you expect us to bother to feel anything about you lot who any way were not being killed by those rockets?

More and more people are beginning to ask - just who the damned hell do the Israelis think they are? And if I were you I wouldn't be so damned cocky as so many of you are about not giving a damn about what the world thinks. The world is very big. Israel is very small.

I don't give a fuck how sick you are, LondonLad. And I really don't see how it matters. I don't think you understand where this conflict is heading. I'm not privy to any information that you can't get on the net, but it seems to me that you and everyone else who *really* care about Palestinian life should be focusing your efforts on getting the Hamas to lay off those missiles in the next few hours. I hope you succeed.

Or what Jonathan? What exactly is going to happen "in the next few hours"? They going to drop a nuc on Gaza then?

You guys, your attitudes are all wrong. You are a bunch of spoilt brats. Your blind, not looking ahead. Don't realise that you live on welfare. America can change, it could disown you. Should have thought about that. Should have realised that you don't in fact stand on your own two feet. Should have made friends, stopped thinking that you were so special. Too much pride, that's your trouble Jonathan.

And that's the stuff that comes before the fall.

And boy am I and millions of others going to applaud long and hard - when fall comes Jonathan.

re: I hope you succeed.

Power controls a relationship.

The only power I have is through my tax dollars and convincing those in power to do what is moral and legal.

The state of Israel has an equal "right" to exist than the state of Palestine or any other country.

The people of Israel have an equal "right" to exist as any people.

The state of Israel has less "right" to exist than Palestinian people or any other people.

If a fall does come they are taking a lot of others down with them this time. They won't let history repeat itself.

"going to applaud long and hard - when fall comes

why ever not they had sixty years of funds and goodwill flowing in their direction. For thirty odd years West Germany aquited itself really well and indulged Israel up to and beyond the hilt. It need have only asked and Germany would have met any need. But they got spoilt. Now as Jonathan so clearly displays they now don't give a toss what the world thinks of them and what they do.

Time for a trip to the woodshed. Israel is rapidly throwing away the one thing it can't afford to. The worlds goodwill. And that goes you want get it back again in a hurry.
