Both parties cheerlead still more loudly for Israel's war

As the body count in Gaza piles up, the U.S. Congress acts overwhelmingly to insinuate itself into the war with blind support for Israel.

The letters thread is now closed.

Holly,

Here's a couple of your posts droning on about genocidal comments:

More genocide quotes from pro-Israel commenters

From earlier in this discussion:

..there are few oblique but nonetheless very clear, indisputable calls to murder that have been posted in this comments section over the past few days. [...]

I just hope that Israel is able to weather the storm of hypocritical and bigoted criticism long enough to finish the job in Gaza, once and for farking all. -- Lab2112

shooter242, over the course of 2 closely spaced posts:

I'm going to agree with Glenn on this one....Withdrawing our support would isolate Israel to the point where they feel they have no choice but to re-occupy Gaza and nuke the next country stupid enough to attack.

It's time to let Israel off the leash, and do what they do well. -- shooter242

Indeed. If the left actually cuts off support to Israel, crippling it's ability to respond to attacks in a measured way... it will use it's remaining weapons to full effect. You guys will accomplish what the rest of the world and diplomacy won't. A final solution in favor of Israel.

Keep up the good work! -- shooter242

Hopeful, supportive allusions to mass slaughter are bold-faced above, emphasis mine.

1) Maybe, just maybe, Israel learned valuable lessons with Hezbollah and will be far more thorough in Gaza. -- NeoConCabal

Call for genocide against Gazan Palestinians, without regard to their age or political affiliations.

2) Che..'Soumani Clan Wiped Out': Your Precious Lips To God's Ears !

YES! Hamas, Che Baby, must be wiped out to the point that it'll take the sewage dwellers 50-years to rebuild. Then, do it again. -- NeoConCabal

Reference to Gazan Palestinians of unknown political affiliation as "sewage dwellers".

3) As far as the body count goes, who cares? 100:1, 1000:1, 10,000:1 it doesn't matter. The Palestinians started this round with their incessant bombing of Israel. -- markandkari

Asserting that dead non-combatants don't count because of their ethnicity and misfortune of location.

Remember these are published statements. If you would like to see more, I can cut&paste from earlier comments. I restricted this search to the last ~40 hours.

Bowing out

What little Brother, said.

[I] particularly want to commend oomooex, Derbig, Chris Sinnard, Arne Langsetmo, Paul Daniel Ash... and I would add Holly McLachlan, Timothy 3, Bill Owen, Canukistan Bob, ondelette, RMP and the Call Up...in addition to all of those I and Little Brother left out. Y'all are cookin'! You really have distinguished yourselves. Not just today, but over the past few days on this particular issue.

On the issue of antisemitism itself, I'm willing to award the final word to Glenn with his observation,

Some supporters of the Israeli attack on Gaza hate Palestinians specifically and Arabs generally -- but not all do. Therefore, to support the Israeli attack on Gaza is not to hate Palestinians and Arabs.

Some opponents of the Israeli attack on Gaza are anti-Semitic and/or oppose the existence of Israel -- but not all are. Therefore, to oppose the Israeli attack on Gaza is not to be anti-Semitic or oppose Israel's existence.

[...]

It applies to virtually every political dispute: Some opponents of affirmative action are racist but not all are; therefore, to oppose affirmative action is not to be racist. Some opponents of tax cuts are socialists but not all are; therefore, to oppose tax cuts is not to be a socialist. Some opponents of the U.S. invasion of Iraq were Saddam supporters but not all were; therefore, to oppose the war on Iraq is not to be pro-Saddam.

Which is useful for thinking about all kinds of things in addition to antisemitism. And, I thank him for that.

To those who cannot tolerate criticism of Israel's current actions with respect to the Palestinians, I would only point out that you are doing damage to Israel's position. While it is true that our current Congress has thrown Israel full and unconditional support, the American people are not behind them. Whether or not the American electorate is, or isn't, antisemitic will be irrelevant when prejudicial patterns are overcome (or, effectively hidden) by genuine secular humanitarian concerns. This, is the point you keep missing, and it is your Achilles heel. Like the situation in Iraq, eventually, our representatives will come to understand that their current unilateral position is going to cost them an election. Eventually, this issue will be out of their hands and yours. It may take an election or two, but I perceive the shift to be an inexorable one.

It is clear that the apologists cannot make a credible case for Israel's current treatment of the inhabitants of Gaza; surely, you should have been able to make the case by now. Being constrained, as are will all, with respect to time and energy, I'm exiting threads associated with this subject. Keeping up with Glenn's columns is a must-do activity, and I wouldn't miss a one. However, in terms of this particular discussion, I think I've read all the new material the apologists have to offer. I trust if an astonishing insight is offered by one of you, Glenn will add it as an update.

Derbig, a big old bear hug to you. What you've offered is priceless.

Goodness, Zoltan

I hate to even respond to you [karr(sic)]. I feel your stink and your dirt and your hate as I type away here. You are so obvious in your toxic hatred, responding to you makes me feel as dirty as you are. Your posts should warn any Jew, who is not a committed Chomsky leftist like Glenda, that even liberal Jews should be careful who they accept as allies. I would much rather face you in a ring than try to rationally respond to your naked hatred with any words I can muster.

Here's an idea. Therapy, as Karr(sic) suggested to me, will do you a world of good. And even if it doesn't necessarily help you, it might prevent you from harming others. Now, if only Israel would take this sound medical advice, we'd be a lot better off (or at least the Palestinians would).
