It is amazing to see 525 ostensibly independent elected Congresspeople move in lockstep. To understand the practical methods that have been used to get us to this point over the past 30 years, read Michael Massing's excellent writeup in the New York Review of Books, April 10, 2006.

The concept is simple. Require a new Congressperson to sign a statement supporting Israel, then have him/her routinely cosign/sponsor pro-Israel bills, so that they are thoroughly compromised over time. Anyone who resists is marginalized or politically destroyed. Result: Congress is now a pliant and compliant body, on the subject of Israel.

Despite the global hubhub,note that not a single Congressperson has come on CNN to criticize Israel. CNN known bad business when it sees it.

To Glenn's point about the lack of Orthodox Jews in the J Street Lobby, it seems to me that Orthodox Jews have more in common with Muslim extremists and right-wing Christians, than the rest of us.

The Chief Orthodox Rabbi of Israel, on May 30, 2007 in the Jerusalem Post, said that Gaza should be "carpet-bombed", and that Jewish law required this. He proposed extreme collective punishment, and collective punishment is illegal.

I will simply point out that gatekeeper Rahm Emmannuel is Orthodox, and that AIPAC endorsed Obama only after Rahm interceded.... surely Rahm would not seek to keep out alternate voices, or snitch on his boss if he drifted out of line. One wonders.

As far as Zionism is concerned, the founder of Zionism and apostate, Theodor Herzl, sought to intensify hatred of the Jew in order to enhance the cause of political Zionism. Here are some of his “pearls”:

“It is essential that the sufferings of Jews. . . become worse. . . this will assist in realization of our plans. . .I have an excellent idea. . . I shall induce anti-semites to liquidate Jewish wealth. . . The anti-semites will assist us thereby in that they will strengthen the persecution and oppression of Jews. So anti-Semitism, which is a deeply imbedded force in the subconscious mind of the masses, will not harm the Jews. I actually find it to be advantageous to building the Jewish character, education by the masses that will lead to assimilation. This education can only happen through suffering, and the Jews will adapt.

Hateful views of Jews as being subhuman did not have to be invented by Nazi theorists such as Hitler, Goebbels, Rosenberg and Streicher. This ideology was simply adapted from statements of political Zionists such as those found in the writings of the Zionist Yehezkel Kaufman in 1933.
