Both parties cheerlead still more loudly for Israel's war

As the body count in Gaza piles up, the U.S. Congress acts overwhelmingly to insinuate itself into the war with blind support for Israel.

Oy, they're still at it!

I just got here and I'm getting through the comments.

Man, I gotta tell you, this group of Zionist supporters we got here are really something! Now look, admittedly, I'm no expert, but when I was growing up Jewish in NY, many of the older generation, my parents age and older, had dealt with anti-semitism, such as it was in America at the time (it effected them mostly in the form of real-estate redlining, which simply became impossible as the suburbs exploded post WW2, admittance to private schools, if that's where you could afford to go, and to a very small extent in business. And you gotta admit, if these are the problems you face, you're pretty lucky.) and some of the grandparents generation had been victims of European governmental, political and legal anti-semitism. And most terrible, brushes with the Nazis and the Holocaust. So these were people who knew, and had been affected by anti-semitism. And in addition, they were very concerned for Judaism, and that Jews should be a part of the country.

And let me tell you, they would not in a million years act like our little group here when dealing, or even possibly dealing with Gentiles. They would never, never reveal the kinds of character defects our group is so uninhibited about laying out there. They would die first. And reveling in the kind of threatening rhetoric and displays of petulance, the total disrespect for anybody else's feelings or outlook? The brutish manners? Not done, simply not done. "Be a mensch" was as much as a byword among them as Shalom Aleichem

And I can't in any way conceive of them, with their caution and concern for these things, not only embracing so unselfconsciously, but absolutely reveling, brazenly reveling in every anti-Semitic stereo-type they can.

Yeah, you can really tell that our little group of Zionists is keenly aware, has the social self awareness only years of guardedly dealing with a system overwhelmingly weighted against you can give. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Whether Zionism makes people this way, or this kind person always is attracted to Zionism, I leave to others to find out.

And they will, someday.

"if you look at the Kos, the Huffington Post, the anti-semitism is over the top"

Friday, January 9, 2009 01:21 PM

@WinSmith

"It is why so many on this board deny that any anti-Semitism exists on this board."

WinSmith, I've not seen anyone make that claim: Do you have any evidence for it?

Certainly, the subtext of many rebuttals here is that the individual posters own criticism of Israeli actions is not, ipso facto, anti-Semitic ... but I have not seen anyone here claim there are no anti-Semites on this board, nor that there are no anti-Semitic motivations for criticism of Israel (on or off this board), nor that anti-Semitism does not exist in the wider world.

Who, exactly, is missing the point?

Sorry, I know you're a big fan of links...

And Bill. You're right. Its my assumption. Israel would have to be run by a bunch of retards, if they thought this was going to end rocket fire. The state is not run by retards, but by very intelligent people. Thus, ending the rocket fire could not possibly the goal.

Prolific:

Has anyone noted how quickly WinSmith comes up with his extenisive posts? Is he just one guy, or is he cloned?

And I thought 911 truth caused a lot of argument. This Jewish/Anti-semitic thing is obviously a hot potatoe.

Let's be Frank

Hamas baited Israel to start this war by lobbing missiles into Israeli towns killing 4 citizens.

Could be. Absolutely could be. And why would they do that do you suppose? Because they the Palestinians are crazy? Because they are all evil all the time right? Not really human, no? It couldn't possibly be because they have been living under tyranny for decades without anyone really giving a shit about them, could it?

Israel is taking the bait and the chips will fall where they will.

Yes but this time they might not fall in favor of Israel. The international community seems to be tiring of it and with the realization that the US of A is a bad actor, is weak and has zero credibility, those chips might end up falling in a direction that the US and Israel won't like very much.

Probably 1500 people will die of which 500 will be children before all this ends at exactly 12:00PM EST Jan 20. Hamas is quite ecstatic that it sacrificed 1500 of its citizens to achieve a "ceasefire", which it had in-place 30 days ago and let it expire.

You were ecstatic in the aftermath of 9/11 then? Because, I mean, it certainly furthered your political agenda. Thousands of your countrymen died, including a few thousand of those sent to Iraq entirely based on lies. But it was worth it right? I don't entirely disagree with you but I think "willing" is a better word. Willing to sacrifice...

This whole thing is surreal yet the worldwide media, including Glenn, refuses to call Hamas what they are: a terrorist organization...blah blah blah. -- rtf100

Is it that or are they simply waking up to the fact that there is more than one "terrorist" organization at work here and they feel the need to finally recognize that?

Back in 1776 there were some guys who would have definitely been labeled as terrorists by the much more powerful state that ruled over them. They ended up sacrificing some of their fellow citizens to further their political agenda too. I don't believe Hamas and our founding fathers have much in common when it comes to ideology but to have perspective is important. One man's freedom fighter is always another man's terrorist.

@WinSmith

No sir, you missed the point.

I am rubber, sir, and you are glue.

You are trying to make the point that Glenn is being reductive and simple-minded while at the exact same time asserting that commenters on this board are motivated by anti-Semitism. You are accusing Glenn, in short, of doing exactly what you, yourself are doing. You give pots and kettles a bad name, sir.

By the way, I provided a direct quote when I made my accusation of you. Care to do the same in your response?
