(I will not debate 9/11)

I asked for a GOOD reason, publicly stated by the US Congress, to make Israel's interests our own. I know the argument (with reasons public and imagined) is to make Israel a stable democracy. I have however not seen how that means the Israeli leadership is always right, which is apparently the opinion of the US Congress, based on their resolutions.

It is not cheer leading to approve of a necessary action taken with great restraint after years of unprovoked attacks by Hamas.

"Great restraint?"

I mean seriously, "great restraint?" 700 dead, 1500 or more wounded is "great restraint?" What would be "excessive?" Would total annihilation qualify? Why not? I mean, this is war, right?

The tragedy of the people in Gaza is directly related to their support of Hamas, and their support of the fighters when they attempt to kill Israelis.

What about the Palestinians who DIDN'T support Hamas? What do you say to them, when THEY get killed? But of course, they don't signify, right? They should have immediately taken to the streets and rioted rather than accept the election result, right?

Perhaps I'd better declare my approach to both the subject of 9/11 and the raising of it on Salon threads. I have a very simple rule. It would be discourteous and tiresome of me to raise the matter on my own account and would not do so. However, time is moving on. And when I see references to that matter in the article that I believe to be unfounded in any established fact, at the risk of sounding pompous I'm beginning to think it my modest citizens duty to correct it. And I do so out of my increasing admiration and respect for the many real patriots of America who at risk to their reputations and careers are standing up and being counted.

These people desrve our respect and a response.

James McGovern ex CIA, Dwain Deets former director of NASA flight programs and now an increasing amount of well established well qualified forensic structural engineers and Doctors of Physics are saying bombs were used. Are we going to stand around silent if these figures were to be rounded up and sent to camps?

Even such a good fellow as Dr James A. Quintere a former head of NIST's fire science dept who strongly objected to NIST being given the investigation said "I want you all to become conspiracy theorists but in a good way."

So Glenn, when you say your position is similar to that of Chomsky I'll trump you any day. Because my position is in keeping with Galileo and my own Mr Isaac Newton, and you fuck with those guys even less than you would with the Jews.

And the wonderful thing about the best part of the Truth movement is that people from all over the political and religious spectrum are coming together joined by their passion for Truth, respect for the law and love of the Constitution.

A burgeoning Truth Movement could just be the very thing that could save America.

Well, its either that or continue to live in denial and delusion. And that believe me is the soil in which fascism grows.

With nearly 1.5 million people crammed into a 140 square mile area, the casualties will inevitably be high. For the IDF to pretend otherwise and issue statements about precision targeting is absurd.

Final thoughts: the onus to make concessions will always be on the stronger side. I think this passage from the Tao Teh Ching applies quite well:

"Thus it is that a great state, by condescending to small states, gains them for itself; and that small states, by abasing themselves to a great state, win it over to them. In the one case the abasement leads to gaining adherents, in the other case to procuring favour.

The great state only wishes to unite men together and nourish them; a small state only wishes to be received by, and to serve, the other. Each gets what it desires, but the great state must learn to abase itself."

Or in even simpler terms: with great power comes great responsibility. Cheesy, but I think it still holds.

How does the IDF square its "precision targeting" with the fact that almost all IDF casualties in Gaza so far are from "friendly fire"? I guess with friends like the IDF you don't need any enemies.

Won't we be splendidly exhuberant to look back on these vaporous days of bombing and spoilage as we have for the 6-day, Lebanon 2005 and now the Gaza campaign as they prick our sense of what is glorious.

These atrocities, for whatever cause speak to the crudest of inhuman crimes. There is only empty rhetoric left to justify killing and starving many for the safety of a few.
