Discussing Israel/Gaza on right-wing talk radio

I had an unexpectedly substantive discussion of the Middle East and the "Islamic threat" on "The Hugh Hewitt Show" last night.

The letters thread is now closed.

And in general, why did Republicans and the U.S. right love fascists, Mussolini, and Hitler so much?

If you actually go back to the time that the chest-beaters are talking about, it wasn't American liberals who were cheering the fascists of Europe bashing the heads in of labor and socialists and communists -- no, no, that was our domestic right wing.

Republicans and conservatives always seem to admire authoritarian rightists, especially violent ones, and back them right up until the U.S. actually declares war against them, at which time they have to play patriot again.

It's like how Southern white conservatives' deepest instincts are so often drawn toward treason, if it's not breaking away from the Union in defense of slavery or carrying out terrorist guerrilla warfare against elected black governments and upholding segregation, it's damaging the Constitution as severely as they can, except for that one Amendment they care about.

That's why I'm glad the Southern Strategy is finally over with, and now all Southern conservative whites who were going to go Republican have done so, and the Republican party so seriously got its ass whooped in this election by a liberal, non-Southern black man. And now the Republican party is a regional party of Southern revanchists who gladly give tax incentives to foreign companies while trying to kill off our remaining domestic auto industry.

It's amazing the the right wingers who so eagerly cheered Mussolini and Hitler early on always try to lecture liberals on how ruff & tuff they'd be in war against the fascists.

Wallaby

Wallaby, you think I'm mad now? If I am not the very first name mentioned in your "hate speech" complaint, I'm gonna get really pissed.

If it will help, I'll talk bad about the French, Russians, Latvians, Germans or even, if this is what it takes, the Canadians. And they all smell bad, and I've never accused the Israelis of that.

But still, you really owe it to us to cite some of the examples of speech which you think is actionable. I mean, the Cal. AG is going to have to make the complaint public, right.

But bear in mind, Wallaby, you will not be dealing with the Israeli justice system, so you might not like what you find. Nobody does internal justice like the Israelis.

40 innocent people murdered at a UN school

I don't think I will pay my federal taxes this year, if one more penny goes to Israel.

They have forfeited their precious "right to exist" with this slaughter.

@El Cid

How about the hilarity of right wingers claiming that Nazis were "leftists" because the full name was National Socialist German Workers' Party?

These guys do not know a marketing term when they see one. The Nazis were about as "socialist" as the German Democratic Republic was "democratic."

We had the sympathy of the world after 9/11...until

Bush invaded Iraq and filled the nation with lies to justify our militant actions. We instigated, provoked and created an insurgency. We performed ethnic cleansing, and destroyed a nation killing hundreds of thousands of innocents.

Because of Israel's actions anything done to them in the future is justifiable now and will probably be encouraged. War is better than peace...forever now... as a chosen method of dealing with hostile situations. Israel has lost all respect except from the war mongers who think they can rule the world by military power. Israel has given the green light to all acts of terrorism against them proving there is nothing they will not do to achieve their desired results.

In the long run it is Israel and the US governments that will ensure that the world will result in nuclear holocaust because they cannot see themselves as causing the situations for which they are attacked. They always justify their actions by claiming they have been victimized when in reality they only needed to change their behavior to prevent provoking war. It's always peace our way or not at all and human lives only matter when they are on our side.

What in the world do they think they will achieve by these actions? What will be 'fixed'? Alas Babylon...look what becomes of Israel. The way to combat terrorism is never to become a terrorist. Watch how Israel justifies its own brand of terrorism.

@Flasheart

I just got home and I swear, I haven't Googled, but wasn't Neville of the tightly furled umbrella a, oh noes a CONSERVATIVE?

Now I ask you, how did those conservatives let an appeasing Liberal in their party?

Oh speaking of WW2, have you guys seen the medal struck by the Nazis to celebrate Nazi-Zionist co-operation?

@ Seeker722

Why is it that Republicans are incapable of discussing any foreign policy issue without bringing up Hitler and Neville Chamberlain and appeasement?

______________________________________

Some wingnut must have once led his high-school Forensics Club to victory by dazzling the judges with a Chamberlain comparison; since then, the wingnut masses assume it's a sure thing.

Besides, they got nothin' else.

Now, why is it that Republicans are incapable of discussing gay marriage without bringing up bestiality, incest, and polygamy?

bystander @ 3:53

Now THAT was funny!

@ lab2112

A: Because Neville Chamberlain is the ultimate personification of liberalism at its most flagrant, and he DID try to sate the appetite of a voracious, murderous monster.

Yep, that's precisely what he had in mind. Not only that, but a regular Gandhi, he, too. Not to mention a card-carrying Commie to boot:

Chamberlain was forced to resign the premiership on 10 May 1940, after Germany invaded the Netherlands, Belgium and France. He was succeeded by Winston Churchill but remained very well regarded in Parliament. Before ill health forced him to resign, he was an important member of Churchill's War Cabinet. He had a key role in the formation of the Special Operations Executive. Chamberlain died of cancer six months after leaving the premiership.

Note that his irresistable urge for appeasement and his pacifism didn't stop him from declaring war on Germany when they invaded Poland.

BTW, you never responded to this:

(or click sig)

I could remind you in your slurs on "lib'ruls" that it was FDR that opposed Hitler early, and the RW Rethuglicans of the times, with the friends in the Bunds, that actually wanted to join in on Hitler's side....

Now FOAD, you [Ackroydesque] ignerrent slut.

Cheers,
