Steve, there's a difference between saying "I believe there is such a thing as a just war" and "there's no such thing as an unjust war".
Exactly what, if anything, constitutes a just war, is, I believe, a question worth examining.
Man, I was rootin' for ya, but I'm afraid you may have already blown it.
I will plan to find out. It's entirely possible that it all comes to naught and the self professed antisemitic racists here can put one in the W column. Obviously the owners of Salon are not concerned with what their names are attached to, or they too support it. Again, I don't know. Thank you.
Suuuuuure. You do that buddy. And when you're all done, I'll have Ice Cream waiting.
It may come as a shock to a delicate bully from a Commonwealth country, but "Hate Speech" laws tend to be both weak and uncommon in the U.S. There is a broad belief in real freedom of speech here, however discomfitting it may be.
However, there are few oblique but nonetheless very clear, indisputable calls to murder that have been posted in this comments section over the past few days. If Wallaby wants to try and alert Californian authorities to this fact, he can start with (and certainly must include):
I just hope that Israel is able to weather the storm of hypocritical and bigoted criticism long enough to finish the job in Gaza, once and for farking all. -- Lab2112
and shooter242, over the course of 2 closely spaced posts:
I'm going to agree with Glenn on this
one....Withdrawing our support would isolate Israel to the
point where they feel they have no choice but to re-occupy Gaza and
nuke the next country stupid enough to attack.
It's time to let Israel off the leash, and do what they do
well. -- shooter242
Indeed. If the left actually cuts off support to Israel,
crippling it's ability to respond to attacks in a measured way...
it will use it's remaining weapons to full effect. You guys will
accomplish what the rest of the world and diplomacy won't. A
final solution in favor of Israel.
Keep up the good work! -- shooter242
Hopeful, supportive allusions to mass slaughter are bold-faced above, emphasis mine.
It's so clear to me that you don't understand what it means to be a soldier.
Fuck all of you.
Show me what it means to be a soldier/airman/seaman/marine in this day and age.
Maybe then I will have some respect for you.
Steve
The pro-Israel folks insist that "Hamas" or "Palestinians" have the destruction of Israel at the heart of their being. NOT based on any events or circumstances, but just out of hereditary/genetic irrational hate.
This is obviously racist. I mean if you reduce your enemy to simply being "crazy" and having no ability to think rationally, then, sure, do whatever you want to them. Kill 'em, whatever, since they will never change.
It's absurd. We are all human. A Palestinian adopted by an American Jewish family would not compulsively hate all Jews. Yet, this is the basic premise of the pro-Israel crowd. If they admit that their “hatred of Israel” is based on actual events that occur in the world, then they would have to admit that Israel’s actions contribute to how Palestinians behave. This makes war less fun.
When was the last time you served in the military or participated in a war?
I'm afraid if you can't answer this question, then you have disqualified yourself from anything, ever.
I might, refer you here:
Unlike Others, U.S. Defends Freedom to Offend in Speech

“In much of the developed world, one uses racial epithets at one’s legal peril, one displays Nazi regalia and the other trappings of ethnic hatred at significant legal risk, and one urges discrimination against religious minorities under threat of fine or imprisonment,” Frederick Schauer, a professor at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, wrote in a recent essay called “The Exceptional First Amendment.”
“But in the United States,” Professor Schauer continued, “all such speech remains constitutionally protected.”

Until, or unless, you can provide evidence to the contrary, your claims are groundless, and your assertions are empty. Without cites and evidence you invite people to ignore you, since the only other motive could could have is to simply draw attention to yourself.
My personal take is you've had your 15 minutes of fame, and it's now time for you to slither on off.
It's so clear to me that you don't understand what it means to be a soldier.
ROAR!!! Talk about oozing machismo! Be careful not to poke any eyes out swinging your dick around.
I can't even hear anything over his hardcore tough guy chest thumping.
Fuck all of you.
Is it me, or is stevedew totally arguing with himself? And, like, on the verge of beating himself up?
We should do something.
Well, dang. Guess we'll all have to take our toys and Go Home Right Now!
What a big meanie. Sheesh.
I am so bummed.
I'll go slow here because I know that people coming off a meth binge are easily startled and agitated. You seem confused as to what I've said.
There are just wars. We aren't involved in any. That should answer all of your questions,.
We should do something
I'll prepare another serving of the Iced Cream. That should calm the little guy down.
Given your exclusive focus on the (rare) anti-Semitic freaks like DavidByron and gustafus who've posted comments on this topic, and your total disregard for the clear-cut calls for genocide emanating from Israel-supporters in these same threads, this:
...To me it's a legal issue about inciting violence and hate speech. Thank you. -- Wallaby
can only be regarded as a lie. If you were in earnest, you would have cited the latter as well. Their words are just as transgressive and they are more numerous here.
If there are other anti-Israeli comments, from other commenters, that rise to the level of "Hate Speech", cited them here, and cite them now.
At the moment you look like a whinging provocateur who hopes to smear the general population of a busy thread in the eye of a casual reader by asserting things that are not true.
Now, you certainly can try to get away with that. But, this is one of those placed where strident lying doesn't work very well. You tend to get called on, you see.
