Discussing Israel/Gaza on right-wing talk radio

I had an unexpectedly substantive discussion of the Middle East and the "Islamic threat" on "The Hugh Hewitt Show" last night.

The letters thread is now closed.

Please, don't be on my team or pretend that you are. You're not.

I have no idea what your "team" is, but I'm happy not to join it. Problem solved.

It's telling (yes it is)

That comments that equate Israel and Jews with the worst filth of humanity ever are permitted even encouraged here and most opinions that say 'nay' to that are deleted and the posters names turned off.

I'm not sure of what each state's laws are but you could make a case that Salon permits racist hate speech intentionally. It would be at minimum a libelous offense in many European Union countries.

Perhaps Salon needs to take a closer look at what it lends its name to if it hopes to maintain its status as a somewhat neutral yet partisan advocate for dialog. Additionally Salon perhaps needs to have a 3rd party ombudsman review these threads and the complaints that come from them.

I for one will be investigating with California's AG what the definition of all this is.

Thank you.

My wife, the Ballaboosta

is calling me to remind me "You're no guy's guy, Mooser, you're a Goy's guy, and I'm the goy! Now get over to the office, there is work to do!"

So I've gotta go.

But you'll notice None of the ZIonists can even aproach the question of how Judaism, the religion, fits with Zionism

And they won't, won't even come near it.

And for American Jews, who have nevered suffered anything but the slightest social discrimination (do they even understand the differences?) to talk about boxcars and concentration camp gaurds and there need for Israel so Jews can survive, just so they won't have to admit they made a mistake, or even think about it, is shameful.

To make America your "bitch" after all it has done for us, well, all I can say is, it makes me wonder how much falsity is in those anti-semetic stereo types.

@CS

It's almost like all of the America Hating keyboard warriors out there think that people that post here were born yesterday and have never had to deal with this kind of mindless drivel.

I have no idea what this means, either. But I'm happy not to join your team, as well.

This is an absolute lie. Why don't you give some examples?

"At the fundamental level, Israel is a democracy with a strong history of the rule of law. Arabs have one cases against the government in the Israeli courts (rights they rarely have in Arab countries). Israel certainly is far from perfect but with a vibrant system it can ultimately self-correct, particularly if there is a realistic chance for peace. The Arab countries, and Palestinian leadership, is largely tyrannical with no history of rule of law, consistently free and fare elections, etc."

This is a complete misunderstanding of justice and representation. There are a myriad of laws that affect Israeli Palestinian citizens differently from their counterpart Jewish citizens. In fact, Palestinians born in Jerusalem, which Israel claims is part of its sovereign territory are not considered citizens but permanent residents, unlike a Palestinian born in Haifa, for example. That is, from the beginning, unequal treatment under the law. Secondly, Israel consistently violates treaties to which it is signatory. Thirdly, Israel rules over Palestinians who have no representation or political power with a patchwork of military and special laws, which it writes and implements without input from its Knesset. These include demolition of housing and indefinite administrative detention--including minors.

I am always surprised at people who try to justify Israel's awful treatment of Palestinians by offering that it is more just than the way Arab regimes treat other Arabs. If it is even true--and it is rarely supported by fact, or even relevant--what an incredibly low standard Israel reserves for its undesirable population. We treat them better than other regimes? Would you live in a country where your status under the law was justified by finding worse examples in dictatorships? Perhaps, all Americans of Russian extraction should be treated as lesser citizens because they would still be better treated than the Russian government treats people born in Russia.

Yet, obviously this must be good enough for Palestinians somehow. A moment's introspection would reveal how stupidly racist your viewpoint is.

There is a substantial differnce of course, in that Israel has been receiving that money for over thirty years. And, of course, Israel is a sovereign state. We occupy Iraq. If you are arguing that we shouldn't give aid to Iraq while we occupy it, then yes, I agree with you. Just what are you arguing? The pages here are filled with comments against the occupation of Iraq to a far greater degree than Israel.

You're way out of your element here.

Let's see if I can parse that statement:

'I have no idea what "your team" is, but I'm happy not to join it if' it's the team that gets to have the most fun and it gets to stop the world from killing people for the hell of it and passing it off as just what "wbgonne's team does" out of misdirected ideals.

As I said, liars and crooks are not welcome on 'my team'.

I will take my examples to the appropriate authorities.

Thank you.

I'm listening to the radio show now ...

and I see they've got it set up 3 (Israeli advocates, including the host) to 1 (Glenn). And as such, I'm about 18 minutes into the program and where's Glenn's voice?

It's ALL pro-Israel voices.

Finally, here's Glenn's voice for the first time in the 20th minute ... figures.
