Sanjay Gupta for Surgeon General.
Have you ever heard of anything more absurd?

Since I don't have cable teevee, it took a while for me to remember where I'd heard of this guy before.
Then I remembered: he made an ass of himself trying to John Stossel Mike Moore over the veracity of facts presented in "SICKO". I must have seen it at Crooks & Liars.
I just coined the verb "John Stossel", and like the man himself, it's probably too rank and clumsy for repeated use. Anyway, Gupta mendaciously and disingenuously tried to take a hard line in challenging Moore's facts, and got his pompous ass handed to him.
If Surgeon General is essentially an honorary job, a public-relations sinecure, I guess an infotainwhore is the right pragmatic choice.
Better safe than sorry; Clinton 2.0 has learned from its experience with Joycelyn Elders!
In 1994, she was invited to speak at a United Nations conference on AIDS. She was asked whether it would be appropriate to promote masturbation as a means of preventing young people from engaging in riskier forms of sexual activity, and she replied, "I think that it is part of human sexuality, and perhaps it should be taught." This remark caused great controversy and resulted in Elders losing the support of the White House. White House chief of staff Leon Panetta remarked, "There have been too many areas where the President does not agree with her views. This is just one too many." Elders was fired by President Clinton as a result of the controversy in December of 1994. [Wikipedia]
