Boy, I sure am anti-war!*
*Unless the war was started by and/or involves Israel
FTFY. But then again, even though Israel wants to call it war, it isn't war, it's self-defense! Just like the US defended itself against Iraq's WMD.
Because I'm not a reflexive follower.
Wow. Are you sure about that? Your self-parody skills are top-notch.
... comes Derbig Mooser to prove my point.
But, as always, anti-Semites genuinely don't believe they're anti-Semitic. They just play the "some of my best friends are Jewish..." card, then play the "people play the anti-Semitism card to silence me!" card. And then, amazingly, they find the "facts" and "evidence" which lead them where they always want to go. In their world, Palestinian nail bombers are "justified" because of the occuaption. Hamas is "understandable," and a desire to wipe Israel off the face of the earth is "what oppressed people do."
Are you contending the words in quotes are Glenn Greenwald's, and used in their proper context! I contend you are a complete liar, with a mendacity which borders on mental illness. Please substantiate those quotes. liar!
Regarding your complaint to WinSmith:
I personally don't understand why anyone would have a problem with someone being passionate about life and death issues. Something is wrong if you don't. You are absolutely wrong that Greenwald's passion for justice sways him in an inappropriate way.
May I submit that Glenn's shrillness and appeal to emotionality, which are evident in all of his writings, are a proximate cause of the intemperance obscuring a helpful discussion here. When a poster like omooex feels the need to inform me each time I say anything with which he disagrees that he would like to knock my teeth out, it diminishes the value of what we are doing here.
Supporting a country and identifying with them are two distinct concepts. Glenn assumes America sees Israel just like America. Our "51st State." Jews may see Israel as the self in the self/other binary, but America sure doesn't. Jews are the exoticized Other throughout the codes of our society in so many forms.
When Dan Quayle talked about the "Hollywood Elites corrupting the (Christian) family," who was he talking about?
When Bill O'Reilly rants about the "money changing" George Soros secretly financing anti-American media, who is he talking about?
You have to go back to Henry Ford and Father Coughlin to find literal anti-Semitism, but its coded progeny exists all over our society today. The Bernie Madoff ponzi scheme unleashed a torrent of Jewish financing theories so ugly and vile, it was like the Protocols of Zion just got republished on the internet.
On the left, any of the "PNAC=Jewish Conspiracy to fight wars for Israel" or "AIPAC is the secret key to behind the scenes Washington funding" or "Joe Lieberman has questionable loyalty to America" are all modern manifestations of the same old, same old. It only takes a match to light up these long dormant anti-Semitic paranoid strains, and the people who embrace them usually have no idea why they're so enraged by them, or even that they're talking about Jews at all.
The viral themes never disappear. They just change linguistic form. Sadly, it's usually Jews who tend to recognize them for what they are.
Hamas is "understandable," and a desire to wipe Israel off the face of the earth is "what oppressed people do." Even though it's not what many suffering cultures have done. Many cultures choose peace. The palestinians choose mortar fires and nail bombs and hiding terrorists in civilian neighborhoods, daring Israel to bomb them.
Except for the fact that none of the regular posters on here have said or done anything like what you've quoted! You say this:
But, as always, anti-Semites genuinely don't believe they're anti-Semitic. They just play the "some of my best friends are Jewish..." card, then play the "people play the anti-Semitism card to silence me!" card. And then, amazingly, they find the "facts" and "evidence" which lead them where they always want to go.
But nobody is doing that. All I see are people either laughing at your tired old pro-Israel apolgencia and making fun of your faith in pedestrian propaganda, or tearing you down, to which your response is "you don't want debate, you evil antisemite! Where oh where can I find reasoned discussion??". You must think that this is newb central when it comes to debating Israel if you are going to use those old chestnuts.
What you really want is for everyone to agree with you, but I don't think many people here have the same amount of cognitive dissonance as you do regarding Israel. You are looking for support, not debate. That's it. You don't want discussion, you want a bunch of people telling you that you're right and that Israel's actions are just, when they clearly aren't.
Palestinian nail bombers are "justified" because of the occuaption. Hamas is "understandable," and a desire to wipe Israel off the face of the earth is "what oppressed people do."
Again, except that people here aren't saying that. You really need to find some new talking points. Do you think you're dealing with a bunch of rookies here?
When confronted, he has to backtrack to some totally disingenuous claim that he's only concerned because America spends "all of its resources" defending Israel.
"All its resources" Is that a quote from Glenn? Would you please link it, please?
Do you feel you have the right to lie and put completely imaginary quotes in because you are a Jew, or a Zionist?
I brand you a liar. That is an abusive comment. Please substantiate your quote or ask Glenn to ban me.
