Jebbie

What would Israel be doing now if the launching point of those rockets was not Gaza, but the occupied West Bank?

Do you believe they would be somewhat more circumspect in their approach?

Just somewhat...imo. They have a a chip on their shoulder in regards to Hamas, and cannot accept the fact that they enjoy any amount of sympathy since they view Hamas as an existential threat to their survival. They feel the need to train the Palestinians via negative reinforcements; military attacks and denial of goods, that Hamas sympathies will hurt not help them. I'm sure I have seen members of the Israeli government state this explicitly. But it depends on how far you take the analogy. If you assume that Hamas had control in the WB then I would say yes they might take the same actions.

while rank hypocrisy is fine, it's vitally important to admit that that's what it is.

So when will you be making this admission?

Muntaba,

I believe the question is what would Israel do if rockets were coming from the WB, not if it was possible that rockets would come from the WB. I believe this question has been answered several times over the past seven or so years, when certain areas of the West Bank have been deemed responsible for suicide or other kinds of attacks. Israel has used targetted killings in such areas (which usually kill more civilians than those targetted), bombing of sites they claim to be terrorist bomb making factories (also killing large numbers of civilians), and large scale invasion and re-occupation, which have killed and injured similar numbers (Jenin, Nablus, and various refugee camps).

You support fascism. You support censorship. You support a racist neo nazi prick who hides behind his own self importance. Not that those are bad things, I just want him and you to cop to it is all. Since Glenn pretends to be all about 'openess' and dialog it's important that words belie that. Which again, while rank hypocrisy is fine, it's vitally important to admit that that's what it is. And you're only half kidding about grovelling at Glenn's shoes.

I thought about pasting this diatribe in its entirety (and I came pretty close, too), but I'd like to know how "I support fascism ... censorship ... [and] support a neo nazi prick ...."

What evidence is there for any of this? And in the absence of evidence, what are your accusations worth? Aren't you censored here because you post little of interest other than insults (which, admittedly, I've done, too)? Is the NYTimes fascistic if they won't print your letter to the editor? And don't other sites that have moderation in place?

And what do you mean by "neo nazi"? Has Glenn (or I, since you've included me in your accusation) argued on the basis of race, creed, nationality or religion? Isn't the very point of this blog the opposite of that? Can you provide examples for this charge?

So, in sum, I'm not clear what you want me to cop to.

As for being Glenn's ombudsman, no, that role goes to karr(sic) since "ombudsman" isn't a word I can pronounce, much less define.

at least it's an ethos

You support a racist neo nazi prick who hides behind his own self importance. Not that those are bad things

That's classic.

If you assume that Hamas had control in the WB then I would say yes they might take the same actions.

The government of Israel has stated that they are attacking Gaza because of the rockets, not because they dislike Hamas, the legitimate government of Gaza.

Given that, would it be safe to assume that Israel would attack the West Bank in the same manner, even though 9.4% of the population of the WB is Jewish, not Arab?

Hamas is the flavor of the month for Israeli violence

There are many other groups in the terrirtories (especially the WB) that are islamic based, and secular...al aqsa martyrs brigades, etc...

In re: hawkpsd

What compels a person to write such rancidly false, vile, and plain despicable things in a public forum? Even with the cloak of anonymity, what sort of hatred and unmended loathing drives a person to do such a thing, repeatedly, without any apparent sense of shame?

In all the years of reading comments online, the most hateful voices still mystify me with their violent lack of sense and proportion. Are these people half the snarling dogs in real life as they seem online?

omooex

I was trying to say that I think the nature of the Israeli response is less about the rockets(the stated reason), and more about Hamas.

I know what you mean about Bop/GC/clownsense. When he first came along way back when I couldn't make heads or tails of most of his stuff. The Chauncey Gardener, "I am but a simple man" schtick seemed a little corny, but he slowly grew on me. Then there were times when he really posted some amazing stuff. I have to admit I never could afford the time it takes to decipher all his work though. But since Klytus came along, between the two it's become really tedious, and having to scroll through all their posts to keep up with the meaningful comments was taking up way too much effort. Even when I took a time out to try to decipher GC lately, I came away scratching my head. Klytus was a bad influence. I'll miss Bop, if only just for old rimes sake, but klytus definitely needs to find a reason to spend more time doing something else. From the sheer volume of posts it looked like he was spending all his waking hours on Glenn's Blog. I'm a little surprised at Bop for ignoring Glenn's warnings since he was more than accommodating and couldn't have been more clear. Klytus pretty much just flipped Glenn off. He will not be missed.

I really liked your reply last night to the imbeciles that cropped up there toward the end. You saved me from having to throttle my monitor.

From Ms. Livni herself

"The state of Israel, and a government under me, will make it a strategic objective to topple the Hamas regime in Gaza," she said. "The means for doing this should be military, economic and diplomatic."
