Gen. Hayden and the claimed irrelevance of presidential appointments

Since when did people start believing that high-level appointments and Cabinet secretaries were irrelevant?

The letters thread is now closed.

I Get it Now!!!

No wonder my wife gets pissed off at me!! I'll listen to her and go mm-hmm, about this or that and then when I'm working on the project we "discussed" she wonders what he hell I'm doing and why isn't it looking like what we agreed to?!?

...only the President counts... GG

Indeed.

That's what an Autocracy is.

That's what all these people are running around celebrating.

That's what Obama is inheriting from Bush.

Lucky us.

We have a King.

We have an Emperor.

We have a Czar.

Bow down before His Majesty.

Chesterfield

You are oversimplifying. There have always been mindless "true believer" cheerleaders on progressive blogs, whether for Obama, Edwards, Clinton, Kucinich, Nader, McKinney or Bugs Bunny. Just as there have always been mindless nihilists who harp on about how both parties are identical and it's all one big con that deluded "lefties" refuse to understand, and that only La Revolucion! can possibly make it all right. Binary thinking for shallow minds, who can only see all evil or all good in a situation. The same kinds of people who wanted Impeachment Now! even though it didn't have a prayer of happening. The same kinds of people who defended Obama's shameful FISA flip-flop. The same kinds of people who think that Obama's just a more competent Bush/McCain, and will be even more effective in advancing the Great American Imperial Project! Lazy minds engaging in lazy pseudo-"thinking". That's all. But they're not the only people posting on lefty blogs, nor have they ever been.

"Don Obama"

Now there's a psychosycophanticism if I ever saw one.

Anyway, it just goes to show ya, and it shows, that Updates are the best part.

Gates and Hayden as temporary placeholders to ensure

a smooth transition until someone "qualified, competent," and thoroughly "vetted" by the oh so powerful "left wing bloggers" (tongue planted firmly in cheek wishing they had that much power because they're usually right) is one thing. Keeping Gates and Hayden on one second longer than necessary is incredibly suspect in my humble opinion. Don't they have lucrative right wing think tank fellowships or lobbying positions waiting for them?

And what the F is going on over at Daily Kos? Somehow holding our own up to scrutiny is now verboten because . . . wha wha wha why exactly? The kool kidz must be losing their minds. Push constantly for transparency and accountability because doing anything less is an abrogation of our role as citizens. I think Don Obama can take the heat and the DK crowd should know better. I've personally had enough of simply allowing the grubby little hands of the know nothing ideologically tainted "qualified and competent" beltway establishment manipulate the levers of power in this country. Is this how it should be with Don O's Supreme court picks?

Why is it that the supposed "left" in this country never gets any credit for being right on most of the big issues in this country? Shouldn't the labels be changed to the "reality based pragmatic and correct left" vs the "deluded and almost always catastrophically wrong about everything under the sun center and far right?" Seriously did you see the smack down Kristol was getting for this morning's deluded little missive? Sweet karmic justice for dumbest hacks in "journalism" is all I have to say.

As far as I'm concerned compromise is great when your compromising with equally reality based alternatives. Compromising on whether or not there are unicorns, underwear gnomes, and the tooth fairy is a whole other kettle of fish.

Gates has a long and distinguished career in this country as a scumbag void of morality and Hayden should be jettisoned for the exact same reasons Brennen was--those who condone or enable torture have no business running the show in any civilized nation much less "teh great and powerful exceptionally craptacular US of A." Assuming of course we really do want to repair our reputation in the eyes of the world. If not, move along nothing here to see, because the new bosses will be the same as the old bosses.

If I was going to start comparing GG to famous athletes he'd have to be considered the Tiger Woods of truth, reason, and factual clarity. He's hitting so many 400 + yard drives and 80 foot screamers that eventually people are going to have to sit up and take notice.

Enemy of The State

Currently, every citizen of The United States of America is an enemy of it's own government. We are searched, watched, wiretapped, imprisoned without charge, taxed with no representation and forced by economic policy to send our children to be slaughtered for oil contracts in Iraq. ANY sign that ANY enabler of George W. Bush will be staying on is to us like full custody of children to a pedophile is to their mother. We are all suffering to one degree or another from PTSD. The Republican party has raped this country, looted the treasury, and set us on a crash course with the largest economic depression in the history of humankind. If Obama wants our help, he'd better start signaling with appointments or decent human beings. If he keeps Hayden, he will loose my support, my respect, and my pocketbook. He will have ONCE AGAIN proven that national security cannot be handled by Democrats. At this point, with Dems once again caving to Mr. 22%, I really do fear they are all too cowardly to protect this country. Their roll-over reflex is just to developed for them to be effective.

On the other hand, please note:

The employees of Republic Windows and Doors in Chicago have unceremoniously broken the law, and occupied the premises of their former employer demanding pay and severance for being summarily dismissed when Bank of America, NA, withdrew the company's line of credit.

They took matters into their own hands, took over the company's plant, issued a statement of demands and sat the fuck down saying they weren't leaving until they were paid.

And lookie, lookie, the governor of Illinois says the state will no longer do business with BofA, NA, unless the employees are paid, PE Obama says he supports the workers, Sen. Durbin is palling around with them, and it's quite a show.

NOTE: the workers took direct action. Maybe there's a lesson here.
