Gen. Hayden and the claimed irrelevance of presidential appointments

Since when did people start believing that high-level appointments and Cabinet secretaries were irrelevant?

OT Ondelette, they did arrest some other suspects

Pakistan arrests suspected Mumbai planner: source (see sig)

Reuters, By Abu Arkam Naqash

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - One of the suspected planners of last month's attack by gunmen on Mumbai was arrested by Pakistani security forces in a raid on a militant camp, an official with a charity linked to the militant group said on Monday.

The Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) official, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject, said Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi was taken into custody following Sunday's raid on a camp used by Lashkar-e-Taiba fighters outside Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani Kashmir.

"Yes, Lakhvi is among four or five people arrested in a raid yesterday," said the official, whose JuD charity is regarded as front for the feared militant group.

Pakistani intelligence officers said six men have been arrested, but gave no names, and there has been no official confirmation of the raid.

Hayden's nomination can't be justified

John Brennan's nomination went down the crapper, and rightly so. He's a man who holds dubious views on surveillance, torture, and the like.

Michael Hayden believes in the same shit. Obama The Divine has no justification for nominating Hayden for CIA Director, after he threw Brennan over the side.

State Silences 8-Year-Old Guitarist

Tallan Latz is an American blues guitar prodigy. He received his first musical instrument, a drum kit, at the age of three and began playing acoustic guitar at age four. By the age of eight, he had played on-stage with performers the likes of Jackson Browne and Les Paul.

He's in two blues bands and used to play in public, until bureaucrat Robert Anderson of the Wisconsin Labor Standards Bureau found out.

You see, in Wisconsin it's perfectly legal for Tallan to drink in a bar with his father present. It is not, however, legal for Tallan to "perform" in the same setting.

Tallan was quoted in a local article saying, "It feels pretty bad because that just broke my dream. My dream is to play guitar."

Bureaucrat Anderson could care less: "The kid is definitely a prodigy, and you'd like to see him have opportunities. But if I'm made aware of a violation, I have to enforce the statute." One has to wonder if he makes the same attempt to enforce all of the other stupid laws in his state.

Bureaucrat Robert Anderson can be reached at 608-266-3345 or Bob.Anderson@dwd.state.wi.us

Re: Political Brilliance

Obama's people fan out to denounce "Teh Left" for their myriad sins (cf: Hildebrand, Steve) and then deny it, as Hildebrand did to Greg Sargent. The Big Media pick up the "discontent" on the so-called Left and write about it rather extensively. The Obama Camp remains firm against the onslaught of OUTRAGE!!!!™ from the frothing "Leftists", usually unnamed, mostly confined to the blogosphere, and some of them reformed Republicans.

In fact, all kinds of retired Generals, professional people of no particular ideological stripe, scientists, economists, educators, etc, etc, have offered advice to and criticism of Our Incoming President, his cabinet choices, policy recommendations, yadda, yadda, and if they are critical they get tarred with the All Purpose Leftist Brush (so useful it proved to be to the Bush Regime) while the Rightist Hordes coo their pleasure at just about everything Young Mister Obama is doing, and just about everyone he has appointed.

He's got a hammerlock on the Right.

Doesn't care (or doesn't appear to care) about "Teh Left."

All-American, wouldn't you say? This is not just how Palace Politics is done in this country, it's how it's done brilliantly. The "Left" is the all purpose whipping boy for everyone, an imaginary opponent to all, like Wild Indians back in the day, and it serves to Unite Americans in Common Cause.

It works. It's worked throughout our history, and it is working now. The fact that Obama's People are so lusty in their denunciations of "Teh Left" is having the effect of uniting all sorts of disparate elements that have no common ground except loathing of Dirty Fucking Hippies™ (aka "Leftists").

It may ultimately backfire, but so far, it's very successful.

And it leaves the actual agenda of the New Regime shrouded from view so long as the distraction of Leftist Bashing can be maintained.

Those who are skeptical of the whole display surrounding Brennan's "withdrawl" are probably on to something. Hayden's retention, indeed, may be the real objective, and Hayden by all accounts is far more duplicitous and dangerous than Brennan.

But the Obama Regime is intent on showing a "steady hand" and keeping the Right mollified. Authority must be maintained, the status quo reinforced. So far, so good.

Beyond that, it really is hard to say. Skepticism is a virtue, that's all.
