Letters to the Editor

Letters posted here are associated with the following article:
Why do Feinstein and Wyden sound much different on the torture issue now? The two Senators spent the year emphatically insisting that the CIA's interrogators comply with the Army Field Manual. With Democrats in control, they're not so emphatic any longer

Democrats Impatient With Obama to Weigh In on Economy

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2008/12/04/democrats-impatient-obama-act-economy/

... ""It is a grave mistake to assume that parties are irrelevant to this process," he said. "My one difference with the president-elect, about whom I am very enthusiastic, is when he talks about being post-partisan.

"Having lived with this very right wing Republican group that runs the House most of the time, the notion of trying to deal with them as if we could be post-partisan gives me post-partisan depression," Frank said."

If only they were all so... errr... Candid?

And if an outbreak of Rebellion/Revolution from the Right does occur, what are the rest of us going to do? Condemn it, of course. Right? Join the Northern Command forces to put it down? No! Certainly not! Listen to the inchoate rhetoric and calls to arms from the rebels, hear their cry, and try to understand? Maybe. Join them? Never. Just don't be surprised if it happens. Be grateful if it doesn't.

It's late so I'm just going to say if that outbreak occurs on the Right, well, fuck 'em and let 'em go. I'm not interested in debating with the likes of Limbaugh and Hannity. If Palin and gang want to secede, fine. I won't try to "understand" them, I won't "join them," and although I'd be surprised if it happened (since they don't want to lose life's comforts either--a form of rationality even among the irrational), I sure as hell won't be "grateful if it doesn't."

Any other response is pure dickishness (Pedinska, I hope you noticed my effort with this last).

So this is your great plan? The plan that is so great and changeful that you must berate everyone who does not follow it? This is your plan: Glenn, please lead me?

Forgive me, dude, but it would have been easier for you to say; "I am sixteen years old, don't take anything I say seriously." That at least makes sense. Next time save everyone the trouble.

  • Who said anything about secession?

    This isn't 1860, ya know.

If they let their rage get the better of them (follow along with Niewert and/or Digby on the topic of Right Wing Victimization and Rage), they won't be interested in secession (though I wish they were, and like T3, I'd say, "Let them go and let them put GeeDubya to rule over them. Please!") They will want to "take their country back."

Their country, not yours or mine, or anyone's but their's. And if they are able to do it I doubt most of us would like it much.

You thought the Busheviks were bad?

We haven't seen Bad, not like what would transpire in the event of a wingnut revolution and overthrow of what few tattered remnants remain of our civil and governmental structure.

I doubt most of us would like it any better if such a thing came from the Left, but there is no chance at all that such a thing would happen. There is more than a slim chance of its happening from the Right.

I sometimes wish it were about secession. It isn't.

  • No, Wyden's communication director's account is not persuasive

This was a ridiculous effort on Wyden's part to say one thing and mean another. And to see how this issue, of all issues, was used as a political football is disgusting.

  • Che

    Who said anything about secession?

I may have mentioned it in passing.

Christ, what are you saying? Do we have to face these people in hand-to-hand combat? I don't think so. Loudmouths who listen to fellow loudmouths Limbaugh and Hannity, I'm certain, talk big but when push comes to shove, they'll dick out (Pedinska?).

And I think I've exhausted my cliche ration for the evening.

  • Obama can be trusted as a matter of law

Mr. Greenwald, you clearly don't see the flaw in legal reasoning in Professor Yoo's position: George W. Bush could not be trusted with deciding whether crushing a baby's testicles was necessary. Barack Obama can be so trusted.

  • @ Reality Kid

I like your train of thought (at 3:14 PM). The feeling of anger and helplessness conjured up by these asinine hypotheticals make people suppose that use of torture could be justified. Just as you say, these hypos set out to excuse what would otherwise be viewed as a terrible crime.

We don't have to give in to that temptation. Torture doesn't work. Getting the detained person to cooperate, gaining his confidence, winning him over... According to actual interrogators who worked for the Army in WWII in Europe, these tactics do work.

  • Pedinska

Have him try 'bearded clam' next time.

I just noticed this and wanted to say kudos! there's nothing like quality seafood! Of course, I have to take Benadryl after I partake but it's worth it (a matter of too much iodine or something).

  • Fuck the big-dick Obamapussies and their expletive-free suckiness!

La Revolucion is coming at the blunt tip of a retarded rant, and it's coming no matter what all you pussy-dicks say. Because bloggers just talk the talk. Revolucionaires talk teh BIG TALK!

Ped/Holly/Et Al--thanks for the laughs, and sanity. We did our little revolution over 200 years ago and anyone who thinks that we need, and are likely to successfully pull off, another one, needs to explain exactly how this happens. Does it all begin with the Mother of All Rants?

Actually, I've seen worse. This one was just...amusing. Maybe we need a thread composed of nothing but faux rants, the more over the top, the better, with prizes for creativity.

Personally, though, I think that Glenn has to do what Digby did. There are lines.

    And my email is haha@biteme.fu

    I'll lick you to death!

  • Why Do Feinstein......

Geez, folks, did we forget that Ms. Feinstein sat on the "Intelligence Committee" that provided all of that good intell prior to the invasion of Iraq? C'mon, give her a break. The Dems cannot be responsible for the press putting Democrats and Intelligence in the same phrase.............The US Army Field Manual was most likely required reading for those serving on the Committee........

  • General has faith in Obama's saying no to enhanced interrogation techniques

Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton talks to KO about Iraq and Obama's position on torture after retired generals had a discussion with Obama. (see sig)
