Several hits there state that GE left the nuclear biz years ago. They have scaled down their energy holdings as well.
My point wasn't to defend GE. My point is to suggest that it is probably not so simple as GE being a defense contractor. From what I've seen, their defense contracts have been for non-combat military planes. They're recent focus has been the locomotive industry. They have been known in the past as a solid investment and economic indicator because of the diversity of their holdings; some fear they are ready to tank. The company made very little money off the war--especially when compared to proper defense contractors. They actually lost money in the first quarter following the Iraq war, which again suggests a really crappy business model, or very little activity in it when compared to its other holdings.

The paradigm--NBC protects its parent company's military holdings--is probably not enough to explain either its pro-Iraq cheerleading, or, indeed, its cable network leftism.
