The link explains the seam, the core, and the gap. Apparently the seam is not just a designation of geography but of globalization.
Yes, action coming from the seam could come from a great many places -- even Indonesia. So that particular part of the quote means little.
The link is interesting because it was written just as we were invading Iraq. To this fellow it is all really like pushpins on a map -- no concern at all for civilian populations which pay a huge price for war.
He says, "Freedom cannot blossom in the Middle East without security." Duh. That's exactly what Colin Powell kept complaining about to Bush and Rumsfeld.
We still all these years later have not achieved security for Iraq.
Wow. Reading that link made me want to kiss Ron Paul's isolationist butt.
Also, there is much going on about controlling drugs from gap states. I am so sick of the worldwide war on drugs and the sheer waste and expense of it.
even though no doubt you are posting interesting things here and there, mostly you're messing up Glenn's column for the readers and, likely, for him. Please shut up until it's not about you anymore! Can't we just agree to priorize Glenn and what he's saying? I'm worried you're going to dismay him to the point of making him question whether we deserve him or not. I think we need Glenn. So, shush.
My trolling little friend
I'm surprised you didn't pop by
To blame the jews again
dear bickerers: even though no doubt you are posting interesting things here and there, mostly you're messing up Glenn's column for the readers and, likely, for him. Please shut up until it's not about you anymore!
I used to be one of these.
You hawk the squalk
But can you walk the walk?
My guru put me on a diet of Bieler Broth for 54 days.
The hardest part was not the horrid Bieler Broth which made me gag whenever I drank it.
It was the Silence. My Swami said I needed to go into SILENCE, and just listen to what others were saying, and to not speak any of my own thoughts until he said I could speak again.
Can you imagine this verbose Glen Greenburg fellow being told he had to shut up shut up until further notice, because alla da time he was just running at the mouth with libral rubbish?
No siree Bob, I do not think this Greenwalt man could never even try to do what a good guru might suggest, and all wisdom, equanimity and cosmic consciousness will never be his, because he just can not stop running at the mouth with kluelessness.

Well we could just watch the letters thread in awed silence and wait until he responds to .... nothing. Or maybe he will walk on water for you.
My own guess is that he's eating leftover Thanksgiving turkey. I've seen his photo. He looks perfectly human. I'll bet he even burps now and then.
Hey, Glenn, I am almost finished with Great American Hypocrites. I agree with you about John Wayne but I think you let Jonah Goldberg off too lightly.
If you happen to be a vegetarian, I apologize. Enjoy that cranberry sauce.

I tried that myself, but I drowned-ed. That's what I get for behaving like a five year old (going on twenty).

So why are you here, mysterious fellow from far away (galaxy-wise, that is, to be 'scientific' about it)? There must be plenty of people (or should I say "folks") to criticize on Orion 3.
I think everyone between the ages of 20 and 25 thinks he can walk on water. When I was eight I thought I could dig to China. It seemed like as good of way as any to leave home. I dug quite a hole in the backyard.
I am still annoyingly persistent over trivial things.

I agree with the first part (in that I failed). As for the second, well, I had some really good schwezan!
Thanks for another great post. Some of us already know that the media serves as echo chamber for the government. In that context we are not surprised by anything coming out of the New York Times. Strangely, while this holds for the media from the right in its consistency when the right holds the executive branch it fails completely when the so-called left is in control of the executive branch. The WallStreet Journal, the other right-wing media and the so-called liberal media(NYT) outlet switches and become the loyal opposition when the left is in control. Only time will tell with this theory regarding Obama administration.
Sometimes I think that Obama's 'truth commission' should begin by cutting their tongues out and surgically removing their keyboard fingers, and this would be just to even up the sides!
Assholes who read NYT for fact and truth are in for more wicked spin between now and the 2010 midterm elections. First, they will build up expectations, maybe for a full year - then they will lecture us about trumped up 'administration failures' with earnest but pure and unadulterated bullshit. I am so f**kin' tired of being lectured to by a literate bunch of certifiable establishment and right wing pundits with all the right pedigrees.
Thank you for your fine demystifying work, Glenn. Me, I'm out here waiting in the backyard with a torch and a pitchfork any time you want to join me. You'll recognize me by my stylish tinfoil hat with the hatband: The Anti-O'Reilly Factor.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
