Five detainees ordered released "forthwith" after seven years at Guantanamo

If the U.S. Congress had its way, these men would continue to be imprisoned despite there being no evidence of their guilt.

The letters thread is now closed.

Oh!, Jebbie

I'd be honored to keep track of the ToDs while you and Super P frolick and whatnot.

I'd suggest that before you leave you give the award to anyone who takes pleasure in some poor guy--evil spawn though he may be--collapsing and being rushed to the hospital with stroke-like symptoms. Seriously.

Sometimes I can't f'ing believe people.

Oh!, ethics_professor

Thank you for volunteering. I'll be sure that your Christmas bonus is approved and mailed on time for the holidays or before I apply for a bailout, whichever comes first.

I generally try to ignore comments such as that and give them a quick wince. They certainly don't rise to the level of thoughtful commentary to which this board aspires.....but then again, I don't rise to that level all the time either so I really can't complain.

Our mutual friend has turned her cell phone off and is taking this "vacation" stuff seriously. Of course, it could be that the phone didn't survive her fall into the latrine. Hopefully, her laptop will survive the wilderness and we'll be able to find a decent WIFI connection near the pool. If my son, The Chef, hasn't loaded up my laptop with garbage, viruses, facebook porno, and AOL advertisements, we can use that one also....since I intend to retrieve it from him shortly after we arrive now that he's making more money than I do. ;-)

Did you overnight those fishnets?

Thursday, November 20, 2008 10:43 PM

Oh!, Jebbie

Did you overnight those fishnets?

Pedinska assured me that she didn't need them because she has something even more stunning to show you.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to shine her patent-leather boots so I can wear them one last time before I mail them back to Ohio. That is, if the Postal Service is still in business on Monday.

The economy's going to hell in a handbasket, eh?

Ethics

Ethics. If you have a question to ask, you may ask it of me. I've defended you here more than once.

As for me enjoying the misery of someone who so callously oversaw the imprisonment of so many people, torture, and as Glenn put it today

"Another of them "suffered months of facial paralysis from a brutal beating inflicted by Guantanamo camp soldiers." And then there's this, about one of the other detainees, Saber Lahmer:

When we last saw Saber in November, he was in his sixth month of solitary confinement. Since August, he has seen us, his legal team, twice and a psychiatrist on three brief occasions. For a few minutes each day, he sees the camp guards who bring his meals. He has had no other human contact. The glaring lights in his cell are on 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When we left the cell, we could hear Saber shouting -- brief, truncated cries. We could not understand what he was saying."

Yes, I am quite glad he suffered something, since its quite obvious that none of these bastards will face any earthly justice.

Hold On,

Did you overnight those fishnets?

Is this where I come in?

I know I'd like to.

Disgusting, yes.

On the other hand, I've struggled mightily to be troll-worthy and I believe I've succeeded beyond all known human measurements (and I include Sir Isaac Newton and that little-known clerk, Albert Einstein).

Oh!, ethics_professor

The fishnets were for me!! I had planned on wearing them to Captain Tony's Saloon (where someone we know is planning to deposit a purple see-through brassiere on a rafter) and entering an ersatz Hully Gully contest.

Be sure to tune into Schooner's Wharf's webcam. Pedinska plans on table dancing if she can find a structural engineer willing to ascertain that their tables can handle her

moves.

You didn't ask me, but this, sir, is not right. Let me disagree. I understand the feeling but, in our collective effort to make a better world, this simply isn't right.

We don't understand each other, that's obvious. To be honest with you, I'm probably equally shocked by your reaction and that of others. I tend to view such reactions as indicative of people detached--either through perception or lifestyle--from reality. But you may have your opinion and I will have mine.

Ethics. If you have a question to ask, you may ask it of me. I've defended you here more than once.

I have no question for you, though your permission is duly noted. You've made your position quite clear, as have I.

As for you defending me? I have no idea what that's supposed to mean, but it sounds creepy.

Thursday, November 20, 2008 11:25 PM

Oh!, Jebbie

The fishnets were for me!!

Oh, sorry. Pedinska said your son would have a fit if I sent them.

So I sent you a bustier instead. Enjoy.

I tend to view such reactions as indicative of people detached--either through perception or lifestyle--from reality.

That's an unfair statement.

I really don't know what else to add to that.

Ethics

It was on some gender issues when Sarah Palin debuted. I took your side concerning some mysogyny going around here when everyone else was telling you to lighten up. Perhaps that is creepy.

Thursday, November 20, 2008 11:29 PM

Is this where I come in?

No, really. Pedinska made me promise not to indulge Jebbie's fishnet fetish. And anyway, haven't you put yours away for winter? As for mine, it was in the low 80s today so I can still wear them. Gotta love California.

Timothy

We disagree. We'll leave it at that.

I like that. You are inherently an ass-kicker (do you mind if I say 'inherently'?).

"So I sent you a bustier instead. Enjoy."

Oh!

Before I get all excited.....is it empty?

G'nite.

Thursday, November 20, 2008 11:34 PM

Okay.

It's not for me to give you a hard time.

Thursday, November 20, 2008 11:35 PM

Omooex

I took your side concerning some mysogyny going around here when everyone else was telling you to lighten up.

The way I remember it, the gender slurs were flying and I called people on it. You admirably agreed and toned down the rhetoric.

I didn't realize we were keeping score. It's not something I do.
